Had a pint of Follow the Gull over the weekend. I liked that it had a strong underlying bitterness to balance all the fruity hop flavor. For an "IPA" at 5.5% abv, one of the better examples to still have good balance and body, not just taste like hop water.

Went to Green's Liquors in South Wildwood this weekend, cleaned them out of Follow the Gull and picked up another sixer of Summer Catch. @CapeMayBrewCo might want to send some more their way

I got to the brewery Saturday at 11:30am for the release of the DDH Coastal Evacuation. My god, that beer is crazy good. The aroma is simply amazing and it literally blew me away. I snagged 3 4-packs and another couple of 4-packs of FtG and another Summer Catch. @CapeMayBrewCo your package store is looking sweet with all the fridges in there, keep up the excellent work and PLEASE don't throw away that DDH Coastal recipe, please use it again....and again....and again.

I discussed Follow the Gull in yesterday’s New Beer Sunday thread:

    Happy 325th Anniversary

    Firstly: Happy Father’s Day everybody!

Today’s new beer was brewed to commemorate the 325th anniversary of Cape May in 2017. Needless to say but this beer is being re-brewed again:

“Originally brewed to celebrate Cape May County's 325th anniversary, we brew Follow the Gull with a ridiculous amount of Citra, El Dorado, Azacca, and Amarillo hops, yielding a juicy and ultra-drinkable hop-bomb bursting with tropical and citrus aromas. Though the anniversary has passed, we loved Follow the Gull too much not to brew it again.”

On the can it details “India Pale Ale - Citrusy, Tropical and Juicy.” And “5.5% ABV”.

I have already brewed several times with Citra, Azacca and Amarillo hops. Just a few days ago I brewed an El Dorado IPA which is my first foray in using this ‘newer’ hop variety.

So, let’s see how well Citra, El Dorado, Azacca and Amarillo play together.

Served in my Gulden Draak tulip glass:

    Appearance:

A hazy light golden color with a two finger white head which dissipates fairly quickly.

    Aroma:

Wow! A complex combination of citrus and tropical fruits.

    Taste:

The flavor follows the nose with a tasty combination of citrus and tropical fruit flavors. There is a notable bitterness.

    Mouthfeel:

Medium bodied with a soft mouthfeel along with a dry-ish finish.

    Overall:

I think this beer is very good! Cape May Brewing produced a very tasty Juicy/Hazy IPA in this beer.

Cheers to the folks of Cape May Brewing for producing a high quality Juicy/Hazy IPA!

Heading down to Avalon for a week with the fam. I’m from NNJ so not super familiar with the beer scene down there. Definitely hitting up Cape May Brewery at some point this week. Anything else within 30 min or less from Avalon to check out? What are some good bottle shops to stop at for local shelf gems?

In addition to Cape May you definitely want to hit up Ludlam Island and Slack Tide both of which are within 10-15 miles of Avalon. If you want to venture a bit further out, I would suggest Tuckahoe and Glasstown. Those are the top tier breweries in the area.

I thought 7 Mile was good last time I was there a few years ago. Haven’t been since so not sure about their recent stuff.

In terms of liquor stores, Circle Liquor in Somers Point would be my recommendation. They also have a good insta account.

While there, might as well hit up the new Mud Hen in Wildwood. Pretty good beer, really good food. I'll tell you though there is a another brewery about a mile from Cape May, but I wouldn't recommend it. Nice little rustic place but the beer is way below par. Cold Spring Brewery.

Hidden Sands Brewing is great and a new place to drink (located near Somers Point), also try Ludlam and (let me preface by saying this last place is somewhere I have yet to try) The Bucket Brigade Brewery in Cape May Court House. I know it's run by former fireman, so it's definitely a good thing if you support their business!
    Cheers!

Does Cape May usually have a decent allotment for special releases? I’ll be around for this so definitely want to grab some. Do I need to get there early or can I show up a couple hours after open?

I've only done the DDH Coastal Evacuation can release a few weeks ago, and although there were a bunch of people there at 11:30 when we got there, the lines were not long at all and there was plenty of beer left. That release too was only 133 cases.

So, I would think you would be fine showing up an hour or two after opening. This is not Tired Hands or Other Half.

Yeah I'm not going until after I get off work which is well after they open! But even if they somehow ran out, they have so many good beers on tap and to go the trip will be worth it.
    Cheers!

Thanks for the tips. Might swing by today after the beach and try some different drafts. Then swing by quick on Friday for cans. Cheers!

If they have the DDH Coastal, try that.....excellent. My other favorite on draft right now is the Follow the Gull. Another great beer.

And yes, you can bring the tacos in.

Got to go to the brewery and pick up 4 packs of each of these awesome beers! For me personally, Bounding Main really took the cake what an easy drinking unique beer. Should definitely be added to the rotation, would probably be amazing on draft! Cheers!

Was just there on Tuesday, Bounding Main is amazing. The cranberry shandy was out of this world.

    Love Cape May.
