    Excellent suggestion!

Yazoo in Nashville is also of excellent quality.

Two other breweries that are helmed by sour beer blog royalty are:

Mellow Mink, which is Matt Miller of Sour Beer Blog fame.

I'd just do a west coast tour, start in Seattle and just go south on pacific coast highway (PCH), with small detours, to San Diego. Besides just wild ales, you'll see a myriad of other places that are very notable.

    WA Seattle - Holy Mountain
    OR Portland - Upright, Cascade
    OR Tillamook - De Garde
    OR Bend - Ale Apothecary
CA Santa Rosa - Russian River
    CA San Fran - Cellarmaker
CA Santa Cruz/Capitola - Sante Adairius Rustic Ales
CA Paso Robles/Buellton - Firestone Walker
CA LA/OC - Cellador, Highland Park, Beachwood Blendery, Monkish, Bruery, Homage, Modern Times DTLA
CA SD - (some of these are just sour breweries, not so much wild) Modern Times, Council, Pure Project, Toolbox (unsure on last one, as previous blender was great but hired by Mikkeller almost a year ago)

Equilibrium - Middletown, NY; people mostly flock for their ipas but their wilds are excellent
    Black Project - Denver, CO
    Crooked Stave - Denver, CO
    Casey - Glenwood Springs, CO
    Allagash - Portland, ME
    The Bruery - Anaheim, CA

Hard to beat Allagash's sour and funky beer game.

Plus, if you're in Maine, there's no reason not to make the side trip to Oxbow.

They are excellent. It doesn't hurt that Mitch is such an awesome dude, either.

And if you are going to visit Suarez and then go to Hudson Valley Brewery a stop at Plan Bee is not only on the way, but a MUST for wild ale lovers.

A much appreciated tip of the hat to all the responders. You have given me a great deal of grist for the mill. Some I have been to, some I have heard of but a great many welcome opportunities.

PS I called Firestone Walker to see if they wanted to go to the Zenne Valley with me and they said they would have to get back to me:rolling_eyes:

Traveling with a beer theme in general strikes me as a great idea. I use the place reviews here on BA as a guide.

Pretty sure the Logsdon taproom near Hood River is no longer open, as of this year. They'll be reopening in Washougal, WA at some point (near PDX) and the former brewer also has a awesome-looking new brewery called Little Beast right in SE PDX that I've heard excellent things about.

I'd also consider checking out Wolves and People in the Willamette Valley region, I believe it's a former brewer at Jester King who opened up a farmhouse brewery on his family's property and it looks great. Upright is also definitely worth a visit, if you're in the area - their limited edition sours can often be found at the brewery and they are some of the best around.

A couple of recommendations above were for Ale Apothecary in Bend, OR. They have limited hours that prevented me from going there on my visit to Bend a couple months ago, but I did make it to Crux Fermentation which also has excellent sours. So you can get a 'twofer' in Bend if you go there.

    Portland Maine, Allagash Brewing Company.
I tried Little Brett and was knocked out by all the different tastes and smells.
This wild ale rates lower than most of the 30+ on their list (I doubt they still make all these).
My point is try any AWA from Allagash, you won’t be disappointed.

I gave a like to all who mentioned Allagash.

The Rare Barrel was mentioned - awesome sours if you like the real tart type. They also have a club you can join in which they will allocate and hold bottles for you until the end of the membership at which you could visit, taste what they have, and fly back with some club only bottles to consume at home.

I lived in Valparaiso for a bit and we’d head up to South West Michigan and go to Transient Brewery often. Their IPA’s are top notch, but their sours, wild ales, and saison’s are worth seeking out. Check out their to-go list now.

I live in Texas now and like others have said Jester King is great.
    Russian River is great.
There are smaller lesser known breweries near me and all around that are solid.

Grand Teton in Victor Idaho has a very respectable sour program.

To follow on what other's have said regarding Allagash I've always wanted to check out their Grand Cru tour: https://www.allagash.com/visit/grandcru/

Its around $100 or so but proceeds go to charity and its a 3 hour tour including seeing their Coolship and tasting beer straight from the barrel. I like sours but they tend to upset my stomach otherwise I'd probably have done the tour by now. Its a nice brewery and there are other options for sours in the area as well. Portland is a great place to visit.

Good points! Logsdon’s tasting room did close, but the Volcanic Bottle Shop in Hood River kind of acts as the tasting room now. Upright, Little Beast, and Wolves&People are good additions, and I’ll throw in Allegory and Yachats as further reason for a sour/wild fan to visit.

People have covered the familiar wild/sour terrain well above, so to add +2:
    Holy Mountain in Seattle, WA
and closer to IN - if you get into the city, Half Acre's wild program is nuts. I mean, 0-OMG in just a few years. Seriously. Keep tabs on their releases...

I will further this more. I am newer to sours/wild ales and would love approachable options in the category. For reference I just tried Trillium's apricot soak and it was really intense IMO. I also love saisons so funky saison options are welcome. Cheers!

Lots of great recommendations, so I'll just add two to the list that haven't been mentioned but that have been killing it recently.

Closer to you, Une Annee in Chicago does great fruited sours that are extremely tart but still balanced and bursting with the fruit flavors; their barrel-aged La Grand Monde series is superb.

And in Atlanta, Orpheus does a lot of wild ales aged for two years or more in whiskey and wine barrels, then refermented with fruits and other ingredients. Not nearly as mouth-puckeringly tart as Une Annee's typical profile, but also supremely well-balanced and full of flavor, with excellent use of the barrel character.

Russian River in Santa Rosa, CA (basically wine country)

Temptation, supplication, beatification, consecration, damnation, etc.... can’t go wrong with any of the “-ions”. They are all spontaneously fermented wild ales, many aged in local wine barrels. Fantastic across the board.
