    @beerloserLI
I'm "mowing what you're growing" as we might be very close in age (1976, perhaps?). While my bitterness threshold severely dropped in the last 6 months, my craving for coffee in my beer has blossomed. I can pass on hops as of late, but not coffee...the more prominent in aroma and flavor, the better!

Fwiw, they're only $5 a bottle in my neck of the woods. Maybe keep an eye out if you're ever passing through.

Good evening NBS, hope everyone is enjoying the end of the weekend once again. Thanks to @lordofthewiens for getting us started off this morning. Took a review break for the weekend and made a quick trip to Ohio for my Grandfathers birthday. He does not have much time left with the cancer, so I had to make sure to visit. Everyone else said me being there was the highlight of the whole day for him.

I also made a new beer haul as usual at Beer Run Store, and made it back with 3 cases of singles and a couple bombers(80% cans). So I will be good to go for a while. Long day of driving and I had to swing by my uncles house to diagnose his broken power sofa. Was the motor, so I gave him the part link to buy on amazon. Easy 15 minute inspection. I'll just tell my dad to go over and install it whenever he gets it in the mail.

    New Beer:

Very nice German pils. Solid head retention/lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit malts; with herbal, grassy, peppery noble hops. A bit of fruity aromas, but not overwhelming. Moderate herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation, light-medium body, and moderately crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing bitter dryness, minimal hop astringency. Very flavorful/refreshing, 5%. Perfectly clean lager flavors, no fruity/yeasty notes. Spot on style. Nothing but clean pils malts and perfectly balanced Saaz/Perle hops. 3.85

Very nice IPA. Awesome head retention/foamy lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, papaya, mango, melon, guava, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, toasted biscuit malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malt and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Some resins/rinds, light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Very drinkable, not overly aggressive, 7%. Spot on Mosaic showcase as expected. Very juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balanced hop complexity; nice bready pale malt backbone, with mild residual sweetness. Very well balanced "Midwest" type stuff. 3.9

    Cheers, be back later NBS

Found another new beer at the DFH Brew Pub, Fruit-Full Fort!

Pours a deep ruby red/brown, even has a small off white head! Lots of berry fruits, some sweet malts, alcohol. It’s actually pretty smooth and drinkable for the high ABV and doesn’t have the nail polish remover smell/taste I remember lingering in regular Fort. I think I will actually pick up a few bottles and see how it ages. Definitely a solid 4-4.25 for a hyper fresh 17+% beer!

Remedy Mashina Bourbon Barrel Aged Baltic Porter, unknown ABV, but probably 11%+. Pours black with a slight tan head. Nose is bourbon and roast malt, taste follows, some chocolate, slight bitter close. Excellent mouthfeel, overall outstanding.

Hey, everybody! It feels like it's been a while for me on NBS, and probably because it has . I returned from a Caribbean vacation with tummy troubles in early July, and have tried to keep it fairly low key with the beer since then. I seem to be on the mend lately, so this weekend I've increased the intake just a touch, and it just so happens that I've got a nice low AbV beer in hand thanks to the last box that @Vidblain sent me:

Here's a 3.7% session-type stout from Able Brewing, called Blk Wlf-

I figured right off the bat that they were going to go big with the roast malts to pull this one off, and that turned out to be fairly accurate. It actually also started out with that sour-ish twang that can result from such an approach, but after a few sips it's thankfully moved way into the background. Flavors here are dark chocolate, blackstrap molasses, some espresso and something almost citric, let's say a smidge of sweet orange peel. It's nicely dry, and the bitterness is right on the cusp of being overdone, yet stays in fair territory. The feel is pretty nice and silky, all things considered, in the range of whole milk. But the real beauty is how whatever negatives it has are disappearing by the end of the glass, and a rich malted milk ball quality is coming forward, getting better the more you drink of it; the mark of a well-made session beer. I could see myself happily taking down a few: A- (4.25), and thanks again, Chris!

    Happy New American DIPA Sunday!

Pretty nice day here on the Western Slope, around 93 at the trailhead, big ass clouds, but they never helped out. Having a pretty tasty brew @larryi86 for the chance. I've had a few from this brewery, and they do not disappoint, very tasty shit! Picked up some chicken tacos, these things rock! Might be back with another later on.

A quick check-in for me this NBS. Heading off to a bottle share/filming of a friend's beer blog. My friend Bill posts clips under the name Happy Trails to Brews to drum up support for a taphouse he hopes to open in the not too distant future.

Today I hit a blackberry fruited Berlinerweisse received via @Dragginballs76:

Not a bad Berlinerweisse at all, though not as tart as some, so a real fan of pucker-inducing sourness might not be wholly satisfied. It's like a Blackberry smoothie. Easily the most memorable looking beer I've ever had. The beer was as opaque as any stout when held up to light. Thanks, Mike!

This beer is the last of many exceptional brews sent by @TongoRad, a generous BA. FW is not available in MI, so I am excited to get into this one. Pours a rich ruby hue with small head that dissipates quickly, smell is sweetness, fruits, taste follows, raisin, plum, grapes, a rich moderate feel with booze aplenty! Great complex beer, thanks again Tongo!

New beer #7. Another @Sixpoint newcomer. Drinking this in the rain and wind since I refuse to retreat inside.

    Spritzer - Sixpoint
    Grisette - 5.1% abv
    Canned 7/19/18 (3 days ago)
    Score: 4.08 (0% rDev - 1st review)
    Purchased for $16/6 at Sixpoint

L - 1/2 finger head atop an almost-transparent yellow body.

S - flowery saison yeast, wine, a touch of citrus, honey dew, brown sugar.

T - starts off semi-sweet with lots of grape flavor. Then the hops kick in. Really nice citrus and floral hops. Incredibly smooth middle. Dry finish. No bitterness. Moderate-low sweetness. No booziness.

F - light body with average carb.

O - if I was a field worker who had to labor for 12 hours a day under the harsh summer sun, this is what I’d want to drink on my breaks.

Good afternoon, all, and Happy New Oreo Stout Sunday! Big thanks to @lordofthewiens for a fine opening to today's festivities! I'm a sucker for a good golf story. I heard about a club hustler who was looking for a game one day. He spotted a new guy on the first tee and managed to finagle a match. After a couple of holes, the new fellow realized that he was being skinned; however, being an honorable man and wishing to honor his agreement, he gamely played on. After taking a brutal beating, the fellow settled up on the 18th green and disappeared into the locker room. When the hustler went in a few minutes later, he noticed the man putting on a clerical collar. Being overcome by a sense of guilt, he went over to the man and apologized. "I'm sorry, Father," he said. "I'd like to return the money you lost."
The priest replied, "Don't worry about it, my son. There is something you might do, though."
    "What's that, Father?"
"Bring your parents around sometime and I'll marry them."

Okay, enough of that. I'm also a sucker for a nice flavored stout. Today's beer is Oreo Speedwagon, a chocolate vanilla milk stout from Lake Time Brewing, Clear Lake, IA. Can this beer live up to its name? In a word, yes. Big aromas and flavors of vanilla and chocolate dominate the profile. It's a little bitter, but not overpoweringly so. It's also not overly sweet. Slightly creamy feel, with a dry finish. Easy drinking and delicious. I'd never heard of Lake Time until I went to a local holiday tasting last Christmas. They brought several of their offerings, which were all really solid. They were distributing only crowlers here until just recently, when sixers of 12-ounce cans began showing up. SingleSpeed (Cedar Falls & Waterloo) is also canning now. Coming soon to an NBS near you.

Hello NBS friends. Little O is visiting for a week and flew in today, so we stopped at my local to replenish our supplies. When I saw this on the shelf, I nearly dislocated my elbow grabbing a couple of bottles. MBC with distro in Northern Indiana - what a magnificent beer nerd world we live in, my friends.

Beautiful burnt orange color with the frothiest head I have seen on a beer ..... maybe ever. The nose is straight up resiny, piney hops, along with some citrus. A West Coast IPA from a brewery as Far east as a brewery can get in the USA - nice!

The taste is dominated by the pine flavors, and the citrus is also present, and there’s a crackery malt flavor as well that fits this West Coast-style IPA perfectly. MBC rocks, IMHO.

Moderate pour yields a 1/2 inch white head over a very bright, light golden body with little lacing. Nose of very light bread, some grass, and a tiny bit of hops. Taster mirrors nose with a bit of spice and bit of sweetness. Nice smooth feel and overall, very refreshing and would have again.

Brasserie Dieu du Ciel's Aphrodite Mechant.

Pours black with two fingers of khaki foam that retains fairly well. Aroma is simple stout notes, hitting roasted and toasted malts with a dry, biscuit malt behind. It smells dark, and straightforward. Flavor profile is roasted and toasted malts with a little oat, caramel, and toffee in the mix. It has a smooth, dry flavor profile with just a hint of sweetness. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with a grainy, semi-harsh carbonation texture. Overall, a stout that focuses on being a stout. Not super loud or overdone, remaining well fleshed and modest.

Since MBC's price point is often a topic of discussion here in our neck of the woods, I can't help but be curious what they charged for it out there?

Glad you enjoyed it. Price quibbles aside there's no question they make tasty beer!

It's been a nice weekend here - threat of storms but we have missed everything so far. Temps have been down in the 80s and it's actually nice outside. Today's new beer is a big one, suitable for the frigid temps here in the South, so I was happy to split it with @mattflippin:

A nice deep, dark brown color. Given the barrel treatment and huge ABV (16%), I was impressed with the persistent tan head. One sniff alerted me to the booziness; lots of rum and vanilla, along with some chocolate and roast. Maybe a touch of coconut but not much. Very inviting, though. The taste was very similar, with rum as the dominant adjunct. Perhaps too dominant. The base stout was chocolatey with a smooth roast flavor. The coconut became more noticeable as it warmed. Boozy and slightly hot on the finish. Overall a huge audacious beer that I very much enjoyed. Cheers!

Hello, NBS. Good to be here. Hope everyone's Sunday is going well. I've gotten a bit burnt out on IPAs, so I've been branching out a little more lately. Barleywine is one of my least-frequent styles, but I randomly felt like having one today. Good thing I had this on hand (and have for over a year now).

Sierra Nevada and Avery Brewing's dry-hopped barleywine collab from last year's SN Beer Camp box. Bottled 4/18/17, 9.4% abv.

Pours dark orange amber, a finger of dense froth. Good amount of sticky off-white lacing.

Smells of sweet malt, caramel, earthy hops and alcohol.

Tastes very bitter still. Brown toast, earthy hops, caramel sweetness, booze, and lingering bitterness. Still quite bitter.

Creamy, resinous, sticky mouthfeel. Very smooth. A nice sipper

Reminds me of Bigfoot at a similar age. I haven't had any Avery Barleywines, so I can't comment on how this compares to those.

    Cheers!
