    Plus, I can count on one hand how many actual innovations have happened since the beginning of craft beer. Making everything higher in alcohol and throwing all kinds of additives in beer is decidedly NOT innovation.

    Then your friend is a douche. This, particular, discussion is a "Dance with who brung ya." type of argument. If you're in a place with quality beer, drink what they have. Beer, after all, is simply a vehicle, it is not the journey itself. People who get that twisted and make beer the entire story tend to be the snobs.
