Time to bring it back home inf the form of a craft brewed Pilsner out of Brooklyn NY

This one is called Bushburg Pilsner by Interboro Brewing

This one was poured into a "Hand Blown" Tulip/Lager/Pilsner glass. It's a lovely craft brewed Pilsner offering floal hoppy notes of lemon grass and herbs while maintaining a welcoming grainy quality present in the brew.

    Excellent stuff!

    Cheers and Happy NBS!

Final new beer of the day, Ricky's Double Rye IPA (9% abv) from Garvies Point...
Double dry hopped, featuring Citra and Chinook hops... Deep gold with amber hues, translucent but not clear... Instantly delicious with warm fruits, sweet resin, and chewy rye impressions with suggestions of dates and orange peel and faint spice... Sweetness is moderate, honeyed, and fits well into the rich dark brown bread malt bill... Bitterness is very mild, feel is very soft and plush, almost suggestive of marshmallow... Really diggin' this, in fact, the "regular" IPAs i had today were all good, but nothing really exceptional about them set them apart from the rest of the "good" IPA crowd - but this beer - the freshest of the day, too, BTW, with a 9/26/18 canning - was awesome - superior feel and flavor - and I'm not always inclined to rye or oat or wheat beers - but this was really nice...

A great way to close my NBS day...
    Cheers, NBS...

Finally getting a chance to catch up today. I worked my normal 2nd shift last night, came home for a nap, then went back in to work 1st shift this morning but that will finance my trip to Philly early next month to meet up with and shared beers with my few of our NBS BIF crowd. Looking forward meeting a few of these guys.
Speaking of this group, @CanConPhilly obliterated my porch last week with 37 new to me beers in this round of the BIF.
Had I realized the thread opened early last night I would have posted this one I had when I got in from work. I decided to have one beer before and blindly picked this one, good choice at 10.5%

This box contained my first Other Half beers and so far I've been impressed.
Pours a murky golden yellow with a thin white cap.
Smells of citrus, orange, grapefruit, pineapple. A bit sweet as well a bit of alchohol.
Taste is sweeter citrus, orange, pineapple, a bit of vanilla maybe.
Full bodied with good carb level. Alchohol shows itself but not overly so.
    Overall a tasty one!

Greetings All from the Great Northwest, where Fall has arrived. Sunny with temps in the low 60's.

Today I was surprised by this Coffee Pale Ale, part of a Sam Adams Fall sampler 12-pack.
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/35/348241/

I usually associate coffee with porters and stouts, but this pale, or perhaps brown, ale is very good. Reminds me of an old Charlie Pride song called "Oklahoma Morning." There is a line about the smell of coffee.

    Until next time,

    Happy Trails!

How do, and happy NBS! We can't have a dog in the house due to my wife's allergies, but if she were to miraculously be cured one day I'd definitely go the way of my brother and sister and adopt a rescue- they've both gotten amazingly social and affectionate dogs that way. Whether it's being in the foster system that brings that out in them or not, I couldn't say, but seeing your stories posted here sure seems to support the notion. Great looking pooches, everybody!

Tonight's new beer for me comes from our BIF #8, and was sent by @Victory_Sabre1973

Hooey, by Lupulin Brewing. And, as much as I love the name, this beer is anything but.

As you'd suspect, this baby does pretty much only one thing, but does it really well. The flavor and aroma are rich with fresh mango pulp and tangerine, balanced nicely with a sharp and lasting smack of citrus peel bitterness (and maybe just a touch of evergreen, too, for just enough added complexity). That bitterness to gravity ratio is just where it should be too, imo, to provide some vibrant zip to a beer that otherwise features a smooth velvety feel and an almost arid-dry finish. I really enjoyed it and found that they avoided some of the usual pitfalls that you'd see in a beer not of this caliber (flavors are not muddy and oversaturated, but rather distinct and pleasant). If you're going to call yourself Lupulin Brewing you gotta bring the goods, and they definitely have with this brew. A very enjoyable and impressive A- (4.35) .Thanks again, James!

Did some serious shipping today - have about 95 lbs of beer that will begin moving tomorrow - and after cooking some tacos and running the dog around the neighborhood, I'm kind of tired and feel like I've earned a couple more beers.

    The first:

@LloydDobler took it upon himself to ruin my day with an incredible box this week - my head is still spinning a bit, trying to figure out how to one-up him. 'Tis the BIF way, you know.

Tonight's beer from Chris is an 18th Street IPA called Villain.

Really digging the artwork on this can - like much of 18th Street's line-up, it's pretty dark stuff. Having visited the brewery, I'm in to it. This beer is decent - a sweet, slightly malty backbone, with some faint stone fruit notes to the nose. I wondered whether it might be a rye IPA, based on the color, but that doesn't seem to be the case - and the beer lacks that characteristic sharpness and warm malty note I always think of when drinking ryes.

While I'm a big fan of 18th Street's stouts, I think their pales and IPAs leave a little something to be desired - but that's not a bad thing. Every brewery has it's forte, and being known for amazing stouts is certainly an accolade that many cannot boast. This is a decent IPA here, but not a favorite. Thank you again though, Chris - appreciate the chance to try it!

On to the second, and probably last beer of the evening:

I am a sucker for Prairie, as any who know my craft beer journey have heard many times. I have a difficult time passing on their beer, even when it's not barrel-aged or special in some way... I just can't bare to leave them there on the shelf. It's like an adorable dog at the shelter... it deserves a good home, and I'll make the sacrifice to see it through.

This one's a new one to me though - Consider Yourself Hugged.

I for some reason found it odd that Prairie would be playing around with peanut butter. I have some odd notions about adjuncts and beers, and for some reason, I just don't think of peanut butter when I think of the breweries that I really admire. Again, I don't really know why I feel that way - it's just a strange notion of mine, apparently. I guess I think of peanut butter as one of those peasant's adjuncts - low brow, you know. :stuck_out_tongue: Regardless, I happen to really like peanut butter in beers - and this one pulls it off quite well. The nose has a little coffee roast to it, and there's a mild char to the taste - the peanut butter is subtle enough that it's not like a PB sandwich-doused stout (which, incidentally, sounds delicious, though soggy). The beer is certainly a bit sweet, though not cloyingly so - it's actually a bit dryer than many Prairie stouts that I can recall. It doesn't have a very clean finish, sadly, and the taste tends to linger unpleasantly and turn sour.

But I still like it. And I'll still do my damnedest to buy all of their fucking beers ever. Because I'm not very bright like that.

Cheers, all - I wish you the most pleasant of weeks to come. Hope to see you next week!

It's a great thing and well worth the wait. It's also interesting to watch their palates develop and to steer their tastes. Another thing regarding my daughter is that I wanted to make her unaffordable to boyfriends (I know I'm an ass). Unfortunately, my son has some stomach issues and has not had any beer in about a year, I miss sharing with him.

So glad that you included this beer @Victory_Sabre1973 - it's one of their best, in my opinion (I prefer Blissful Ignorance, for the contrasting bitterness), but I wasn't able to find fresh cans when I last sent @TongoRad a box. Well done, sir!

I for some reason continue to forget including Lupulin beers in my boxes. I've routinely forgotten the "good" Minnesota breweries and continue to default to Brewing Projekt beers instead. I have to work on that.

Hello everyone. Just got home from a nice weekend in Portland, ME including Zwanze Day at Novare Res. Great time with tons of tasty brews.

Now I’m settling in to watch a little football and drinking this fine beer sent to me by @JBowenGeorgia

Pours a clear golden straw with an active bubbly head. Settles into thin layer of fine foam and leaves swirls of lacing on my glass.

Aroma is citrus, sweet tropical fruit and a bit of earthy grass.

Moderate sweetness with fresh tropical fruit, citrus zest and a bit of cracker and grass.

Just under medium body, moderate carbonation, dry and crisp.

A very clean and refreshing pale ale with a lot of flavor. Easy to drink. Flavors are not overpowering and earth and fruit balance together with enough bitterness to keep things real.

    Thanks John!

My son (9) doesn't like beer, and doesn't care to try.

My daughter, on the other hand ....

When she was around 2 1/2, she asked for a sip. I figured, no harm; I'll give her a finger full of foam! No one likes foam, after all. It'll be bitter and repulsive.

    She responded, simply: "Yummm!"

Every since then, she gets a (very tiny) sip of each beer. She'll ask: "Can I have a sip of your BEE-RRR?" She then gives me a thumbs up or thumbs down.

..... every beer has been thumbs up. I'm screwed. :grinning:

    Hello New Beer Sunday!!!

Wow! Another long work weekend done and back to enjoy my favorite day of the week. As a part of that, I joined the NBS BIF #8 a while back. It is a blast, but there's heavy bombardments. Poor @CanConPhilly has had his porch destroyed by heavy bombardments. Minnesota stands with him, and after the cease fire, assuming it's not broken, there will be retaliation!

So, since I need to make room, on to my new beer.
Drop Dead Blonde from Stevens Point Brewery, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

Now, I wasn't expecting much from this beer a friend picked up for me in Wisconsin. I assumed that it would be, maybe, better than a Bud.

    Boy, was I wrong!

Damn, it's packed with flavor. Malt forward, and on the backside a nice hop presence. Really surprising good. Even more so considering the ratings other BAs have given. I'm way outside the norm here, and I think it's earned it in my book.

    3.84/5 rDev +24.7%
    look: 3.5 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Pours a very clear, very light golden color. The head is 1 finger, white, and has ok retention.
The nose is kind of a malty aroma. Fairly strong.
Taste - I'm surprised. It has a very strong, and pleasing flavor. It is very malt forward, but there's a nice somewhat citrus backside. Very pleasing
The body is lighter, but the carbonation dances on the tongue.
I wasn't expecting much from this beer, but I am very pleasantly surprised. Very well constructed, easy drinking beer.

Since I've got to clear out room in my fridge, I'll be back for at least one more tonight. See you all on the flipside!

A brand new beer given to me by the amazing @jzeilinger

This ones called Dank Hill by Neshaminy Creek Brewing out of PA

Normally I get a fair share of their beers out here in NJ but their Limited releases dont see as much if any distrubution as far as I know and this one seems to fall into the same basket.

This beer was poured into a hand blown snifter with a rising mountain emerging from the bottom the glass, also known as an aromatic glass for bigger beers which I thought should work magic for this 9% DIPA.

Speaking of which, it's a DIPA brewed with wheat but hopped with Apollo, Chinook, Simcoe, Equinox, and Amarillo, then dry hopped for two weeks with Simcoe and Amarillo.

Big West coast influence on this one with tons of supporting tropical character and well rounded malt sweetness. This is a big beer but drinks like a tamed Lion!

    Amazing Stuff!

This doesn’t surprise me at all. Their pumpkin beer (Whole Hog) is one of the best. I’ve slowly moved away from pumpkin beers...haven’t had a single one yet this year...but Whole Hog I would buy if Steven’s Point still distro’ed here.

    Fulton Brewing Cosmic Stallion.

This beer is like the last, and I'm higher than the average. Very well made beer that combines the qualities of the citrus hops with the qualities of a wheat beer.

    Yeah, I'm happy with it.

    4.02/5 rDev +9.2%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Pours a clear golden color. The head is 2 finger, white, quite frothy, great retention, and nice lacing on the glass.
The nose is very citrusy. I also get a slight malt background.
Taste - very interesting. I get a lot of citrus, but then, mixed in with that I get cloves and banana from the wheat. Damn good mixture.
Feel - Decent body. Kind of a creamy feel to it. There's a decent amount of hops and they do linger.
Overall this is a very tasty beer. Very well made and it combines hops and wheat very well, and brings both out in a great way.

There will be, at least one more tonight. I've got a feeling I'll need it.
