Nice win yesterday that was a bit of a shock to all involved, I believe. I bet @jvgoor3786 is a very happy camper today.

    Sam Adam's black lager
    ...solid black
. Medium light body with medium carbonation
..roasted coffee beans, black coffee and roasted malts
. Taste mostly mimics the aroma. Black coffee, roasted malt, with a bitter coffee finish
...overall it seemed to have some good elements but I was s little underwhelmed. I still think it's worth a try but probably will get mixed reviews[IMG]upload pic

Greetings NBS faithful. It's a brilliant sunny 75 degrees here along the front range that's feeling great after a snowy 16 degrees last Sunday morning. I love having four seasons and the appeal of moving here is that you can experience them in a week or sometimes a day this time of year. Living on the edge of the lake effect snow belt in Indiana it was often cloudy and cold for weeks at a time from October through March, so this is a welcome change. It's perfect fall weather to enjoy a new beer in the yard. Let's give it a try!

A stop last weekend at Total Beverage produced a few singles and this is one I didn't get around to reviewing. It's Cosmic Torero New England-Style DIPA from Weldwerks Brewing of Greeley CO with a date stamp of 09/19/18. Brewed with Galaxy and El Dorado hops and the abv. is 9.2%. Pouring in my trusty Storm Peak glass for the unveiling.

It pours a turbid brownish/dark yellow churning up two fingers of creamy white foam. It ever so slowly recedes leaving heavy lacing behind. The smell is crushed white grapes, floral, orange zest and yeasty esters. Taste is similar with white grapes, floral, orange zest and peppery spice in the finish. The feel is super soft, creamy and dangerously drinkable for a 9.2% beer.

A respectable DIPA hazebro that while more herbal/spice than juice box is still some smooth drinking. My score is 3.97 / rDev+2.3% and something I'd drink again.

Only apropos I'm drinking a New England DIPA while watching the Patriots have their way with the Bears thus far. Enjoy your new beer adventures, here's the official scorecard for mine......

So when I looked this up and realized it is singularly hopped with citra I got real excited. I knew immediately this beer was destined for NBS. I was thinking @CanConPhilly knows I dig citra hops and is hooking me UP! Then I read his review. I was skeptical at that point but still pumped because citra is my favorite hop. When I poured it, still up on the beer as it looks great. A standard murkbomb, glowing bright yellow with a one finger fluffy off white head.

And that’s when it all went terribly wrong. The smell is tough to describe, it’s strange. It’s so strange that I just can’t take it away from my nose. Like a weird smell that I can’t figure out so I keep smelling it even though I don’t really like it. Green onion? Fish? Cabbage? I’m doing a terrible job at this point.

The taste follows the nose. Weird. But with a nice hop burn following. It’s sweet, but like overripe pineapple, almost like it’s rotting. Which is even more weird that I kind of enjoy it. This beer is fucking with my head at this point.

Mouthfeel is great. On the fuller side of medium, fluffy. Killing it.

Overall, my brain is tired from this beer. I can’t figure it out. Just gonna try to hold my nose and avoid the smell. The smell gets a 2.5 but the taste is like a 4.

I had another beer lined up but it will be awhile before I recover from this Chris angel mindfreak

    New Oktoberfest Sunday for me:
    Texas Beer Co. Oktaylorfest

This one hits all the standard notes fairly well with a pretty strong earthy hop bite serving as the main note. The malt offers more sweetness in the nose as it warms, but it does have a little molasses. Most of the American-made Oktoberfests I've tried taste a bit like sucking on a penny — or let's say a watered-down Scotch ale, a bit peaty — and this one fits in with the rest.

    The review:

3.79 (0% rDev — mine is the first review)

Had this about an hours ago before it disappears, a rare treat from Fremont around here -one of their Fresh Hop (Citra here) releases, under the Field to Ferment label.
Lovely, clear appearance - looks like any number of pale ales/IPA - doesn't given anything away.
Aroma - where it starts to give away its citra variant characteristics, dank, good citrus, some pine
Taste - wonderful, and full taste, for 6%, echoes of west coast IPAs with a a fresh leaf impression
Feel - great balance of carbonation (on tap) and smoothness for its weight.
Overall - one of my fave fresh hops this year... look for it if you're in WA/OR especially.

Having another beer from Upper Hand this time an Amber Lager called Deer Camp. This one was sent to me again from @strohme2 I think the other one edged this one out just due to preference in flavors but this is one is still very well made.

Appearance 4 - Pours clear amber brownish color with white head that settles to a rocky ring. Spotty lacing around the glass.

Aroma 3.5- Light lemon, caramel, bread, malt.

Taste 3.5- Light citrus up front followed by caramel, malt, toasted bread, light earthy hops.

Feel 4- Light bodied clean refreshing smooth finish.

Overall 3.63 - Well done amber, nice light solid flavors.

I struggled to describe that one too. Doesn’t smell at all like Citra. My unprepared senses didn’t know what to make of it.

That definitely plays into it, you’re caught off guard because you go into it thinking one thing and then your face mask gets grabbed and you get a little bit of whiplash.

Good afternoon and happy New Blue Sunday BAs. Blue for The Good Guys win last night, of course! Before you Brewers fans get all waded up, I'm honoring you today for a fine series with an even finer Wisconsin beverage. But first... we've been having some great weather here these last couple of weeks, so we've really been trying to enjoy it with a couple more walks/hikes. The fall foliage is finally starting to spice up, and the trees are about to show us how lovely it is to let go.

In other news, I got offered a job this past Wednesday so the Stay-At-Home-Rad days are officially in the books as of November 1st. Bittersweet, but a huge weight lifted emotionally and financially.

Anyway, the morning fog and chill burned off so we took advantage by knocking out some yard work. And with that, it's on to a new beer…

Another humble thank you to @joe1510 for this.

Perfection. The shining 24k golden body shimmers. The clarity is unbelievable as I can trace the stamps of fingerprints with my eyes through the glass. Tiny bubbles shoot upwards in rows of single file lines to support a whipped egg white head above. It stubbornly descends while leaving Swiss cheese lacing along the journey. (5.0)

Lightly baked biscuits with a drop of honey lay the foundation for an incredible aroma. Freshly cut grass, still damp from morning dew cuts through softly, and a ripened green grape skin gives an earthy yet sweet compliment. (4.5)

In one word, the flavor is rustic. Green apples marinated in white wine, with a spicy, woody, earthy hop finish. The sweet bready base comes through in the middle with that same drizzle of honey as if masterfully intended to play the supporting role to the agrarian hops lead. The pear, as suggested on the label, finally plays its part as the temperature rises. (4.5)

This has everything you'd want in a Bohemian Pilsner and more. Sweet, spicy, tart, bitter. Soft, luxurious, crisp, clean, dry. It's terrifying how quickly this is disappearing, but its undeniable drinkability doesn't make this surprising. (4.75)

Proof that patience, knowledge, and quality ingredients are always a winning recipe. This is one of the best Pilsners I've been lucky enough to come across. (4.5)

After my official review, gave Mistral a rating of 4.56 with an rDev of +8.1%.

    Cheers.

Nope, the yeast was a little strange, but I felt it was more of a wet grass and a slightly funk yeast, not goat ass.

Greetings fellow NBSers!! The second Saturday in October is generally the start of the rainy season (which lasts until July 5th, when summer starts) here in the Fourth Corner, but it's been clear and cool all week, so we've squeezed out an extra touch of Autumn. There has been some heavy fog the last few mornings, which adds an eerie touch to the season.

i finished off all of my NBS BIF brews, so I swung by the store for a few for this NBS. Starting off with a brew made in the heart of hop country that features lime and cilantro: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/18069/377023/

We meet again, NBS. Hope y’all are having a terrific Sunday.
First up for me is Humble Coast. A collab between Humble Sea Brewing and central coast. This is only the third offering I’ve had from Humble Sea, but what I’ve had I liked.
    First, some pics.

Clocking in at 8%ABV, this “Foggy@ DIPA features galaxy, citra, and simcoe hops.

    look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 3.75
    overall: 4.25

    Canned 9/21/18.
L: Vibrant hazy yellow in color. Formed a nice frothy 2-finger cap that retained nicely. Generous amounts of lacing left behind as I partake.
S: Orange, pineapple, mango, apricot, grass and pine. Fruit-forward but let's you know it's an IPA.
T: Fruity up-front, encompassing all the fruits present on the nose with emphasis on orange and mango. Finish is dry and bitter with a nice amount of pine. Aftertaste is grassy with a nice amount of citrus.
F: Light bodied with moderate to high levels of carbonation. Neither soft nor pillowy but is pleasant to drink.
O: Enjoyed it. Would totally drink again. Cheers NBS.
    Final Score: 4.26

So glad to visit NBS after a hectic week!
I'm excited for today's local new beer from Southern Grist. Almost 2 years ago, SG brewed a NE DIPA haze bomb for their 1st anniversary party, and it reached legendary status among many of the local beer geeks in Nashville. This was before they were packaging beers (except for special releases). For reasons not known to me, they re-brewed it and canned it this week for release yesterday:

Needless to say, there is local hype about this one, so how did it hold up?
It looked like an OG NEIPA - bright yellow and extremely hazy. A creamy white head formed with a normal pour and slowly settled, leaving lots of laces on the glass. Huge tropical aroma: pineapple, mango, papaya, some earthy/resiny notes. The taste lived up to the hype IMO, bursting with the above fruity notes but balanced with some grassy and resiny notes. Not one-dimensional but also not muddled. Dry, crackery malt backbone. Soft bitterness and a pillowy feel that rivaled the greats of the Northeast IMO. Overall, this is outstanding and it remains one of my favorite SG beers. Cheers!

Alright, well @cjgiant 's intro has got me in a sportsing mood after I finally returned to the city from two weeks of 'vacation' visiting with family up on the island (I use the scare quotes because out of the two weeks that I took off for this family time, I think we ended up with a grand total of two days that were actually free to theoretically relax and do what we want). Just dropped the brother and his lady friend at the airport to fly back to Texas, and Porter and I are getting settled back into the apartment.
Last week's beat down of the Raiders in London following a narrow loss that could have easily been a win against the mighty Rams (that still feels weird conceptually, but at least the NFL is getting their big flash start in LA... let's see how they're drawing in five years...), I'm cautiously optimistic about my Seahawks. I still think they're about a year and another top flight pass rusher away, but I think the rumours of their demise have been greatly exaggerated.

But wait, they're on bye this week.
Well at least they're guaranteed not to lose!

Blue Waves from Urban Family (which is one of the closest breweries to this apartment) is a blueberry sour. They do most of their work in fruited sours. Let's dig in!

Pour is a deep cherry red. The fuzzy white head that appears in the image above was barely captured... it swelled upon the pour then as soon as I put the bottle down it began to dissipate in waves almost like an old school train schedule board flipping its numbers/letters. I grabbed my phone quick and was barely able to snap that pic before it faded into nothing but ruby liquid occupying the glass.

Nose presented with a light tartness, and a red berry character that was inviting and belied the sour below.

Very first note on the tongue was the nice gentle mix of tart and sweet found in berry skins, but as quickly as the head disappeared, the flavour builds into a sharp acidic sour note and just keeps accelerating that direction. I can't remember the last time I actually puckered, but I did a bit here at the end of the first big mouthful. Sipping eases that experience a bit, as does letting it warm up, as the acidity remains, but the puckering sour gives way a touch to let more of the juicy berry poke through the cracks.

Ebullient effervescence compliments the heavy tartness quite well. This is for fans of sour sours for sure.
It's one I'd had my eye on for a while (since I first started seeing it show up), but I hadn't pulled the trigger until more recently when I was grabbing a couple of bottles to take up north to the island with me.

I'll probably be back in a little bit with some mid atlantic coast deliciousness, but I should unpack and get the spot up to par real quick first...

(OK this was all largely just an excuse to post this video because it's hilarious to me. Despite looking like a cheap knockoff of the obviously more famous [and clearly more prophetic given that the 'Hawks went just 8-8] Superbowl Shuffle, it was actually the Bears that were copying the Seahawks as the Seattle release predated the Bears release by several months. Fun times. Could you imagine if some team put something like this together now?)

    Cheers!
