    Interesting read.
They guy in the picture had twigs/branches in his mash tun. :no_mouth:

So I’m gonna assume it’s a lightly bittered ale since you only had the Simcoe boil for 5 mins. How many grams?

14 grams, and yeah. Very minimum of bitterness was the goal. I put those in the kettle pre boil, so they had a good chance to steep before hitting boil, and I guess it took 15 minutes or so to come up to a boil from the 154ºf I was mashing at.

Bottled 10 gallons of a 14% imperial stout in a bourbon barrel. Last time I made this recipe it failed to bottle carbonate so I'm hoping the bottling yeast I added will make a big difference. After bottling I put in a smoked wee heavy into the barrel to sit for a few months.

You definitely end up with a very dry beer, which I like. For residual sweetness, honey malt and crystal malts help. Flaked grains help if you're looking for body but not sweetness.

The main thing I like about an overnight mash is that it breaks up the brewday. Sure, the mashing itself is only about an hour, but bringing the mash liquor to a boil and then cooling it down to appropriate temp takes me about two hours as well (I start with cold because I have heard that hot water from the tap contains trace minerals leached from hot water heater and pipes, so hot water is just for cleaning in my home).

Why are you boiling and letting it cool to mash temp as opposed to heating to mash temp and doughing in?

Boiling gets some of the dissolved oxygen out (one of the things that @TheBeerery is always going on about) and also helps to precipitate excess carbonates.

Ahh fuck, I know I'm still fucking it up, but is this going to be some sort of "shouldn't even bother" bullshit?

Gives me the warm fuzzies, ok?

Kicking up the stirplate with some WLP830... Will be hammering out a Festbier this weekend, followed by a German Pils a week later. Got to get my lager pipeline filled up again!

My 2nd NEIPA should be done dryhopping on Sunday. My first one (different recipe) came out fantastic. Hoping this one will be just as delicious. On a separate note I just purchased a BrewJacket Immersion Pro (https://brewjacket.com/). Looking forward to being able to ferment at higher and much lower temperatures. I see a Pilsner and Baltic Porter in my future!

Added 3# of Cryo Mosaic and Citra blend, 2.5# of Falconers Flight, 2.5# of El Dorado to the 5 gallons of Brut IPA, 0.999 FG a couple days ago. Kegging it up after work with some Gelatin, then off to judge Euro Sour Beers and American Wild Ales for a local comp...

8# (pounds) sounds hefty for 5-gallons. When it's ready will you ship me a 2 oz atomizer of it?

I'm gonna pull off a 2L from the keg and hit it with a couple nuggets of AC/DC then force carbonate it :sunglasses::sunglasses::sunglasses:

Brewed a "west coast pils" inspired by Highland Park Brewing's Timbo Pils the other day after work. 100% pils grist, 100% Mosaic hops, so I guess it's also a SMaSH? Fermenting with W-34/70 at 55F. 3+ gal batch, 42g Mosaic cryo at FO, 28g Mosaic cryo dry hop.

Brew went great except that my Robobrew's 1000W element died halfway through the boil. Had to transfer to two pots on my stove to finish it, lol.

Making 2- 5 gallon batches of a Barleywine today to go into my 8 gallon barrel. As much as I enjoy the barrel age beers that have come out of the barrels I have, I will be very happy to not have to make so many double batches of beers to keep them filled. This one will sit for close to a year before bottling.

Tomorrow I have a Baltic porter and neipa to bottle. Get a decent break from bottling after these are done

Cleaned the tap lines tonight. Have a two week fresh keg of Prima Pils tapping tomorrow! Took my Dunkel off in the meantime to make way, but still have three other beers on tap of mine.

My 3L starter of my lager yeast is also going for my Festbier brewday Sunday.

next weekend I will be hosting 3 friends to show them how to brew a beer. We will be making an american blonde ale. I am more excited about this than I expected to be.
