37° and cloudy in the Inland Northwest. Next week we're finally going to be getting a cold blast of weather from the Arctic, but it won't compare to what's hit the Midwest recently. Still, I'm not looking forward to going to work in 11° weather, which is where things are predicted to be mid-week.

Hitting a single hop hazy IPA from @Victory_Sabre1973, and it's delicious:

Great stuff. I could drink it all day.

Apologies in advance. Haven't read the thread, will catch up during the game, but wanted to participate since I've been unable to recently. Many Thanks @lordofthewiens for getting this outstanding recurring thread off and running today!

My entry today is Alvarado Street Brewing's canned Haze of our Lives. I'll be honest, the name had somewhat nostalgic intrigue as I can remember my mom and babysitters watching the (Days of our Lives) soap opera when I was a kid.

L: Pours murky white yellow with 2+ fingers of low-medium density head with good retention and left spotted lacing.

S: Nice vibrant tropical nose, lots of papaya, mango and passionfruit. Subtle pine once it warms.

T: Mostly follows the nose but with the addition of grapefruit. Finishes with moderate bitterness and astringency, both linger on the palate a bit.

F: Medium bodied with low-medium carbonation, full on the tongue but not fluffy.

O: Really liked that this wasn't a one-dimensional juice bomb. Enjoyed the bitterness, provided nice accent to the tropical aspects. While I'm tiring of the hazy IPAs, the ones like this that bring some bitterness will happily find their way into my gut for my palate and preferences.

    BA Score = 4.24, rdev = +2.4%

    Lindemans apple Belgian
    ..semi clear amber
..around a medium body with medium, champagne like carbonation.
..aroma is very strong, tart apples, sweet apple juice. A small amount of malt and grain/cracker in the background.
...taste is tart and sweet apples, apple juice, some malt and yeast. There's a little grain and cracker.
Overall it's not a beer to grab after mowing the lawn. It is an excellent cider like beer that was delicious with dessert....it paired obviously well with homemade apple pie[IMG]image hosters

    Howdy again, NBS brethren!
I'm back and am moving on to a new-for-me style that is far from new in the general sense. This is a Sahti brewed by Oshlag In collaboration with Martin Thibault, who they credit with popularizing the style. I've never had the chance to try one before but have read quite a bit about it similar veins of brewing, especially in the wonderful and incredibly interesting larsga blog. If you don't know what I'm talking about click the link, you'll be glad you did!:nerd:
Oshlag, on the other hand, has always been extremely hit or miss for me, so here's hoping this one is a hit.

This is an interesting beer that kind of grew on me. It is not the best looking, fairly hazy and amberish without much head. The aroma and flavor are both sticky sweet and earthy with a hint of pine. There is a little sour twang in the nose that is totally absent in the flavor. It is drinkable enough and improves as it warms, but is definitely not super beer-like depending on what your expectations are. I liked it okay and am glad to have tried it but it seemed a little messy smell and flavor-wise. From what I know it is probably a fairly accurate representation of the style, but the fact that it still tries to fit into people's conception of "beer" kind of takes away from that. Nice holiday/winter beer for sure.

Whelp, I will be switching to a delicious citra saison and other stuff that isn't new to me for the game in a bit, so I will see you all later!:sunglasses::beers::beers:
    Santé!

This 5.1% ABV "rye ale" is classified here as a "rye beer." It's funny how things work out that way. It's classified elsewhere as an American pale ale. Me? I'd certainly put it in the NEIPA category above either of those instead. To me, the DNA of this beer is NEIPA. The rye and ABV are just variations on the main theme.

It's an opaque apricot-colored beer. Soft feel. Flavors of papaya and mango. NEIPA. The ABV makes this a treat that goes down very easy. Nice of it's type.

There was an online Orval tasting on BA a couple of years ago. It was the first time for many, including me, with this beer and the reviews and comments were interesting and a lot of fun! You've put me in the mood to pick up some Orval this week.

Last new beer of the day, although I anticipate checking out the 2019 Bigfoot during the game and revisiting Wulver after relegating it to my second-favorite wee heavy after having had Zaftig's bourbon barrel wee heavy last week... But any commentary on those'll take place over in WBAYDN during the game...

    So anyway...

Oyster Bay Brewing's 7% abv New England Style IPA...
Features Cascade, Calypso, and Mosaic hops; part of our Local to Locals beer program, wherein local brewers are brewing beers for distribution to local independently-owned beer stores...

Pours a murky, deep golden color with a finger of white foam on top... Head shows modest persistence and leaves some lacing down the glass... Presents floral citrus aromas on the nose, suggestive of grapefruit... Taste impressions include orchard fruits like pear and apple steeped in earthy black tea... Sweetness is mild, bitterness moderate, with a rather rough-hewn, rustic, earthy basement character - almost dank, almost chewy with pine shellac...

    Peace out, NBS, cheers...

Clear light gold color with generous white cap and lasting lacing.

Aroma of pine and citrus, primarily grapefruit.

Marvelous taste on entry that strikes me as pine with citrus hops, primarily grapefruit, and just enough crackery malt to balance with the whole coming across as both rich and dry. The dryness I expected but the depth of hop flavor delivered with restraint was a pleasant surprise. I get the comparisons with Pilsner though that's not one I would make myself, hops are different for one thing, yet it comes across as equally refreshing in it's own way.

Mid medium texture with abundant carbonation.

I don't know what a Brut IPA is supposed to taste like, this being my first, but if this one is typical then count me as a fan.

Good evening NBS, hope everyone is enjoying the end of the weekend once again. Thanks to @lordofthewiens for today's introduction. I might watch the superbowl a bit later on, but I really only care about the commercials mostly. Those will be on youtube later anyways. Still been barely getting by on finding new stuff to review. Planning on doing local brewery crowlers/growlers very soon, but haven't done it yet. Will be the best way to get more stuff at this point. 70 degree temp difference in 3 days, my A/C had to kick on a bit today(3rd floor heat rising).

    Beer:

Nice. Great fluffy head retention/foamy lacing. Flavors of big cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, light honeyed malts; with some herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery hops. Some muted/fruity corn aromas, but not too overwhelming. Light-moderate herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, medium body, and moderately crisp/clean finishing. Bready/grainy malts and some sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate inceasing bitter/carbonated dryness. No cloying/astringency. Very clean lager flavors, minimal fruity/yeasty notes. Very flavorful, pretty refreshing, 5.9%. Very clean and nicely rich pils malt/grain showcase, with nice earthy hop presence/balance for the style. Not too overwhelming on adjuncts. Miller has some of the highest quality macro adjunct lagers. 3.66

Bells Larry's Flamingo Fruit Fight. 4.13 overall

Pours an effervescent & slightly hazed gold with 2+ fingers of cream colored head. Decent head retention & lacing

    S: Piink grapefruit, blood oranges

T: Sour orange, tartness, a little passion fruit & pommegranite & dryness up front. Grapefruit & blood orange as this warms, along with tartness & dryness. Finishes tart with orange sweetness/sourness & a little passion fruit

    MF: Medium body, slight carbonation

Very refreshing/drinkable this would be a nice Summer time sipper

Fantastic IPA! Lasting rocky head retention/thick soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of huge juicy mangoes, red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, melon, guava, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate cracker, white bread, light honey/toasted malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation, medium body, and moderately crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 7%. Amazing mosaic showcase. Extremely juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy hops/fruit; with a nice solid pils malt backbone. No residual sweetness from crisp resin dryness. Will definitely buy more of this and the Brut. Will have to revisit the base beer eventually now that we get Fulton, I liked both of the variants a lot more than it. 4.23

Happy Super Bowl Sunday, NBS friends. I’d like to thank @lordofthewiens for the launch, but he’s apparently conspiring with Mrs O to get me in the doghouse, and I shan’t be lured into their diabolical trap.

Instead, I offer you Super Bowl Beer I.

When I saw on the can that this lager features Citra and Mosaic hops, I was excited (because I love both varietals), and I was also curious: how do you fit all the flavors those hops impart into a lager weighing in at 5.8% ABV and keep it “lagery?”

Quite the conundrum. And while I think this is quite tasty, I think it’s a bit too much for the style. But I’m putting the cart miles in front of the horse. Let’s start with the look.

A big ol’ sudsy white head sits atop a golden yellow body that is the slightest amount hazy. A truly gorgeous beer.

The nose is ram packed with tropical hop aromas, including sweet grapefruit, ripe oranges, pineapple, and passion fruit. Very nice.

Those aromas make the transition to the taste, and they’re packed with flavor, but as I sipped on this, I found myself missing the bready and/or crackery malt flavors found in the best (IMHO) lagers.

This is more of a full-bodied session IPA, IMHO, which is supported by the slightly oily mouthfeel I associate with Stone’s excellent IPA’s.

This is a very tasty beer, but I think it misses the lager mark just a smidge.

Good afternoon, all, and Happy Puppy Bowl Sunday! My new beer for today is Boxer Lager, from the Minhas Craft Brewery, Monroe, WI. My neighborhood grocery store was selling singles of this and Boxer Light for 2 for $1. I decided to throw caution to the wind and bought one of each. Although this beer doesn't rate very highly here, there is something about it (and some other Minhas / Rhinelander beers) that I really like: there are unmistakable notes of hefeweizen yeast. This is light bodied, not too sweet, and dry on the finish, with some light grain and grassy hops on the nose and palate. But those notes of banana and clove really give this a pleasant kick - and you can't beat the price.

    ..cloudy gold orange color
..medium carbonation with around a medium body.
..aroma is mild bitter hops, malt, mixed citrus and peel.
..overall it leans more towards hop bitterness than malt but its nicely balanced. Has a bit of a mild bitter aftertaste but overall a refreshing beer

Poured from a 16 ounce can dated 12/12/18. Pours a turbid, dark orange with about three fingers of thick white head. Smell is tropical fruit. No specific fruit jumps out at me. Taste is similar to the smell, but sweeter. Very thick, but still nice and smooth. A very nice beer from Pipeworks.
