I guess agree to disagree, I would honestly take literally any OH DIPA pretty much over an equivalent HF DIPA. I think HF’s hoppy beers are some of their weaker beers although they are still excellent.

Who knows what I’d think in a side by side, but double galaxy for me is my all time favorite DIPA - great memories having that beer up by Caspian Lake

    Hill Farmstead. Other Half. Treehouse.

Sure those are all great. But they don’t hold a candle to an ice cold Miller High Life bottle after a long day.

    Don’t @ me.

    Mylar is OH's best beer.

The only HF hoppy beer I’ve had was double nelson and while good, I liked All Nelson Everything much more. I know the topic was Galaxy but I thought I’d throw my 2 cents in since we’re comparing breweries.

I’ve been lurking mostly lately but met some thread peeps at As Is today and it reminded me that commiserating about beer and lack of lines and now cereal aisle / milk ratios makes my wife’s eyes glaze over at least 10% less in the evenings. So yeah who actually are you guys again? Roll call? I was the guy with the beer

I've been seeing that initial reviews are...varied, to say the least.

My hopes were high, but I still have a ton of beers from the Anniversary release in my fridge, so you're the saving grace I was looking for.

Sometimes it is just too difficult to not comment here. I am shocked this HF vs OH is even a serious conversation. Don't get me wrong, I still am a big OH fan and will be grabbing some Space Diamonds tomorrow, but this is just absurd.

IMO what sets HF and OH apart is the craftsmanship and restraint even in the hoppy beers. The distinct hop flavor that Shaun manages to get in his beers is so superior to anything OH is able to do (although some of the early single hop IPAs for OH were great efforts in that direction). For lack of a better analogy I can think of right now, HF is a Two Michelin Star Chef and OH is a very good line cook. Given the same ingredients, HF creates an exceptionally balanced and nuanced dish while OH leans on extra additions of spice and salt to create a robust dish which can overwhelm the palate. Are they both good dishes? Yes, and I will happily eat them both. Is one 'better' than the other, well that depends on taste, but a vast majority of people would say yes and it would be in favor of HF.

All Nelson Everything vs Double Nelson? ROTFL. All Nelson Everything was one of the less successful beers I've had from OH in the last few years. I love nelson, and it was just not appealing to me and didn't represent nelson's flavor profile at all to me. Double Nelson is probably one of the best beers I've ever had, I can say that with certainty, and sets the standard for nelson beers to me. Even Beer'd Hobbit Juice crushes OH All Nelson.

Back to more positive OH comments, I think the best beers OH makes are DDH Space Diamonds, DMD (not the DDH version), ACE (either, both are great), and Mylar (not DDH). Of those 4 listed, 3 very accurately represent a single hop and are delicious. Better than Double Galaxy, Mosaic, and Double Citra? No chance, but they are still awesome.

Again I strongly disagree, I think Double Nelson and Double Galaxy are fine but not worth seeking out whereas I will buy Space Diamonds every single times I can. I think nuance in IPAs is overrated, the whole point of American IPAs is to be assertively hoppy and I think OH manages to nail that better than basically everyone else. HF in general is Overrated IMO people need to get off Shuan Hills dick.

HF comments aside, an American IPA is also supposed to be bitter. Adding lactose and oats mute the bitterness, so has the definition changed? Being able to dump more hops into a brew kettle doesn’t make you a better brewer.

Without stirring the pot, I’d easily say that Hill Farmstead beers are more blanced and refined than OH IPA. I’m not saying OH is inferior, the two breweries are just focused on different things. HF has only caned like a dozen IPAs, OH does that in a month.

I’m not gonna lie, I drank my 3rd can of the Root and Branch, Hudson Valley collab (name way too long to write here) and I hated it. I’ve hated all 3 cans, I usually love Root and Branch, yet the alcoholic in me forces them down. I did not like the Daydream Mylar. I think I need to write this so I believe it...I’m...not gonna buy...beer with lactose or...milk sugar in it anymore. I don’t care who brews it. I need to stick to my guns.
