Monkish Brewing (2019)

Monkish really did a favor for those in line since their rent is due next week.

Monkish’s twitter said 600 at opening. Only 400 allotments of JFK, limits not being dropped. Hundreds of unhappy people is not a good look. Again, don’t know why they announced this release beforehand.

 

600 plus people, thats mind numbing considering over 200 will only get partial allotments, maybe its' the Teku that has them still lining up, there's only 50 cases of JFK left and still 500 in line. Gonna be some not so happy campers in that line.

Looks like they tapped Other Half "Twice Baked with Sour Cream" for pours which is cool, aside from special events (Anniversary Party) I can't recall when they tapped guest beers in the tasting room.

 

People knew there was a Sat release coming anyways... don’t think it would have mattered if they announced the beers an hour before opening or the day before it was guaranteed to be crazy

made it out, but that was probably the worst one yet. That black friday deal was pretty bad, but I feel this topped that for sure. if OH wasn't involved, i feel this would be only slightly less crazy...

 

This being an other half collab made this crazy. I feel like monkish played into this after their releases had been simple and having one last overnight.

 

They needed an injection of absurdity with too many 'normal' releases having gone on recently.

Gotta stay on the radar.

 

Hope they continue to do this. I didnt bother with the release either. I just traded for my cans and teku...

Herndon Bodysurfing Club came very close last night to being a drain pour, so overly acidic and IMHO lacked any fruit to pull it back together, really disjointed and unremarkable. YMMV.

Herndon is awful and every positive rating is bullshit. Tastes like a new brewery's first attempt at a sour.

 

A friend of mine go there around 7 and get her allotment, but that line is RIDICULOUS. I am acquainted with the guys at Dasgud coffee who was there, and they were freaked out how crazy it was that that many people were in line.

That being said, we opened up one of the Bonita, Bonita, Bonita's yesterday and was extremely surprised how that tasted. Almost candied grapefruit, and the hop bite was mellowed out from when we first tried it on release. Now the whole gamble of either drinking it all or savoring it starts....

 

So no 7th Year Anniversary fest this year? Last year the fest was announced about Feb 11 ... I know there were talks that unless Monkish could find a venue, they would not be hosting a brewfest in their parking lot again. Hopefully they’ll have some “special” planned for their 7th.

And most likely the reason it was never posted on their tap menu Saturday.
