    Synopsis:
Very sweet. But the salinity balances the sweetness and makes this very drinkable. A great showcase for the flavor of a strawberry. I can’t stop thinking this is a strawberries and cream float. No detectable booze or bitterness. Dessert in a glass. Thanks again Larry!

That is one of my early favorite beers that I still love to this day though I’ve had others that are better since first having BBP (as it’s now been shortened to). I think both the beers you had today did a good job with the barrel - though it was more obvious in the Solace brew, I thought. Cheers!

I completely agree with your barrel assessment. Overall, I liked BBP more as I think the fact that it is a porter impressed me so much as it drank more like a stout.

L-The beer pours a lovely black with brown around the edges. The head is 3 fingers of tan foam which lingers. Lacing is spotty as the head recedes to a thin film.
S-The nose is a nice mix of dark malt and light grassy hops. The malt has a somewhat sweet yet roasty presence.
T-On the palate the beer is a less sweet version of the nose. Malts still lead the way with the roast and sweetness well balanced. Grassy hops keep everything under control and linger to the end of the sip.
F-Overall the mouthfeel is on the lighter side as you'd expect for a lager. Carbonation is medium.
O-A nice easy drinking dark lager. Delivers on what you expect. Could maybe use a touch more bitterness, but I got no real complaints. Worthy of a purchase if your in the mood for a dark lager.

Sounds good. However, if you don’t want to review the beers you are having for the first time today, there is also the What Beer Are You Drinking Now? thread that doesn’t request that your beers be new beers or that you give your thoughts on the beer. Whichever works best. Cheers!

I slept until 7 am MDT, so I don't feel like I lost an hour. We've just returned home after a two week trip, first to Florida, then Denver. Nice to be back. Our dogs missed us, and we missed them. I've been jealous of @M-Fox24 with his dog pictures, and his pictures yesterday on WBAYDN were great, particularly the one with the dog holding the beer can in his mouth. Our youngest dog is only a year old and I want to train him to be a photo star.
Today's new beer is Okie from Prairie Artisan Ales. It is an imperial brown ale aged in oak whiskey barrels, and clocks in at 12% ABV.
In a snifter the beer was a dark muddy brown color with no head.
Aroma of alcohol, vanilla, nut, chocolate, and dark fruit.
Taste of whiskey, vanilla, nut, chocolate, toffee, and raisin. On the sweet side.
Medium bodied, easy-drinking despite the 12% ABV.

Bob Seger really came off as a bitch in that Turn The Page song didn't he? Why don't we switch places? I'll be a rock star and he can deal with the helper monkeys all day. Sorry, I'll leave now.

    ..solid black color
...very light amount of carbonation with above average body. Just a slight oily feel also
..aroma is roasted malt, leather, tobacco, espresso and some smoke/char
..taste was tobacco and smoke forward and a bit earthy. Underneath that was a heavy dose of roasted malt, espresso, and dark black bitter coffee
..overall it was very good but the tobacco was a little bit too much. There was alcohol burn and taste but not as bad as the 12% would suggest [IMG]

New Wild Ale Sunday (Week 733)
Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Shitty weather here, and then some. Leaving it there. I am warm, and dry, and clean, and drinking a beer that is hitting me just right. Those who know me know I enjoy strong flavors, and Plan Bee is a brewery with the same philosophy. Enjoying a beer called Raised Bed I got with their mix pack bottle carrier deal they did for the holidays. It's the most strongly flavored one of theirs I've yet to try, really loving it.
Wow, a blast of flavors, lemon limey funk, acetic tart, overripe fruit, earthy bite with a spicy edge to it, and end of sip is some righteous rotted fruit funk with vinegar and deep composty notes. Aroma prepares one inadequately for this. Outstanding.

Very easy drinking for this much flavor, full bodied for style with just the right spritzy carb. Finish is monstrous and delicious sharp linger.

Full flavored and very tart, full of great flavors, intense, refreshing, delicious, satisfying. Highly recommended for those who enjoy strong flavors brightly and abundantly portrayed.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

    Synopsis:
This beer is miscategorized. Not a NE IPA. Instead, it’s a sour ipa with noticeable tartness. Wheat imparts a bready counterpoint, but the sour lime taste dominates the flavor. I would enjoy this more in shorts on my deck during summertime. As it stands, this is reasonably good, but not a world beater. Pretend you’re drinking a dry-hopped sour and you’ll enjoy it more.

A: Beer pours a dark cola like black color from the bottle with a slight hint that of brown. Head quickly faded away but left a slight ring behind while drinking. Minimal amount of lacing while drinking the beer. Overall, nice but not outstanding example of how I picture a stout to appear.

S: Right from the bottle I notice hints of vanilla and chocolate sweetness. Could also pick up oak aromas from the barrel aging process. As the beer warms the bourbon and barrel notes become more prevalent as opposed to the vanilla and sugar aromas.

T: Taste is very similar to the nose of the beer. Beer starts out very sugary sweet and picks up more of the barrel flavor as the beer warms. The vanilla is present throughout but bourbon and oak become more apparent while drinking.

M: Outstanding. Very thick mouthfeel. The ABV becomes apparent after drinking but the vanilla and chocolate flavors mask the high alcohol content well. The beer lingers nicely in the back of the throat after finishing.

O: Really nice beer that stands up versus the other BCBS variants. The vanilla has a sugary sweetness that improves the base flavors, in my opinion. The appearance is somewhat lacking but is the only part of the beer that is not excellent.

Thanks , haven't posted in quite awhile. I forgot , next time I'll be more specific and less excited while posting. Took me two hours to choose a picture host and figure out how to post a picture. And I'll explain what I'm drinking. Be patient, I'm getting back in to share the little knowledge I have.

Central State - Table / Table Beer

I'm going "Belgian" today for NBS, but this is the only one that's an American beer. I don't know Central State... it might be newly distributed to my area. The brewer claims that this is a "rustic blonde ale brewed in the style of French and Belgian table beers, fermented with their unique yeast strains." Sounds good, but I question how many French and Belgian "table beers" the brewers actually had. Despite that, this one is a pleasant surprise. It's almost like a light Witbier with more earth and peppery spice. It's cloudy yellow and very drinkable. Nice balance. This is a very pleasing brew.

Faintly hazy, bright gold colored body with a relatively thin yet lasting head, a bit soapy, a bit creamy. Powerful scent of citrus and pineapple; orange, lemon; very light note of light grain. Huge juicy flavor infused with a striking yet balanced hop bitterness; grapefruit; subtle cracker notes. Medium bodied; crisp and dry with a bit of alcohol dryness, too.

An outstanding beer with a nice ABV punch, balanced and delightful in all respects.

A great beer to kick off my Sunday.

I've been up since 4am this morning (unusual, in that I usually stay in bed as long as possible). Still, I've updated a web site I'm semi-responsible for, had a fantastic day at a monthly Civilian Marksmanship Program service rifle shoot this morning (anytime I shoot over 400 -X) is a great shooting day (and this despite a lingering eye issue with my dominant/sighting eye, placing one shot in another shooter's target, and the cold and wind). And now I'm tuned in to the Thomas Jefferson Hour on the radio.

It's days like this that make for great personal satisfaction for me.

And today's kick-off beer, even if canned nearly five months ago (10/16/18) is just another plus...

You know I don't. I do have a bit of a bias for the lighter bodied dark beers though. I can even remember the first time I ever (?) had a Schwarzbier and telling my friend "There's just something great about a really drinkable black beer." This De Ranke one was unreal. It really struck me as airy rather than watery. I never had anything quite like it before in that regard. Maybe it was my mood and my mind playing tricks on me. I got it at Milk & Hops Chelsea. I'm featuring some other beers from there on NBS today (the Table one above and the next beer in the queue). They only had a few bottles of the De Ranke left, but it's clearly not flying off the shelves... or even crawling off them. If you get it, open it with care near a sink. Cheers.
