According to the way the system is set up, "open trades (partial feedback)" will disappear after 180 days. This gives someone getting neutral or negative feedback a chance to clean the slate if he/she just waits it out six months. The feedback system here on BA is a great way to provide accountability for traders. Unfortunately this is one loophole for people to skirt the system I for one, think a tweak in the system is needed.
Agreed. Many have brought up this issue and flaw in the system in the past, and it needs to keep getting brought up until it is fixed. Until then all we can do is continue to bring up and start threads on questionable, suspect and bad beer trading practices/experiences with the users being tagged.
From: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/trading-feedback-system-explained.185895/ "After 180 days, open trades with partial feedback are closed." They're not removed. But please let me know where this text resides and I'll make sure it's updated.
I did a bit of digging. Back on January 14, 2016 we switched to closing trades with partial feedback, however, I failed to follow-up in doing something useful with the data. I'm working on that right now.
They haven't brought it to my attention, because if they did I would've told them that the data is all there; as noted above. The issue is that we've yet to discuss how to apply it.
So I've added a new field to our user stats that tracks the number of failures to leave feedback. It updates daily and is now displayed with the rest of the stats on member profile pages. I also forced it to run on all users. It looks like 2,673 traders have failed to leave feedback since we started tracking, of which 1,917 were a single instance. The big question is: how do we apply it as a penalty?
Perhaps you could sort a user's feedback with their partners feedback on trades they didn't leave feedback at the top? That way if it's a tactic being used to avoid potential negative feedback being applied that strategy will be subverted.
Could you restrict a user/trader from posting/opening any new trades until all other trades where they failed to leave feedback are completed?
Where is the "failure to leave feedback" stat? I have looked through a few profiles and can't find. Is it only seen on accounts that have not left feedback?
Yes. I have an account that I keep an eye on and that user has both of these entries in their profile, Delinquent Feedback and Failed Feedback.
Great change. Another helpful addition to review when considering a trade with someone being able to see if they have any Delinquent Feedback and Failed Feedback.
Could the penalty of avoiding feedback.... Be after set amount of time of not leaving feedback is suspension from trade forum ( x amount for first offense... More for second etc)
I'm leaning toward applying it to reputation, as timeouts will be difficult to track, temporary, and won't necessarily solve the problem. But permanently impacting reputation could.
Ya it seems like a knock on the reputation and some flag to let potential partners know that the issue is not leaving feedback would go a long way toward encouraging the extinction of that behavior
I feel like situations where neither party leave feedback though should not count against either party. There are situations where a trade falls apart amicably. Or I've been in a situation where we both opened trades without realizing. If one leaves it though and the other doesn't... that's a different story. As discussed, that could be to evade negative or neutral feedback.
That's all that's being discussed here. If no one leaves feedback the system will eventually purge it.
