Potential Bad Trader: @dabrees

And something needs to be done to feedback system, this guy was high risk, OP get screwed out of beer, the feedback system failed him.

 

First off want to say sorry to @Slack for going through this. Sounds really frustrating.

I recall seeing @dabrees mentioned in another BT forum last year and after reading this thread will chime in with my encounter with him. Glad it never materialized!

Last year dabrees posted a FT post with some prairie bottles. I sent a message to him and offered two beers he listed as ISO. I then received a message back saying that he would do it only if I sent him $13 for each bottle plus shipping labels and $1-2 extra for shipping supplies...and that he really wasn’t interested in the two beers I offered even though they were listed in his ISO. He also mentioned that shipping to NY was expensive as another excuse as to why he didn’t want to trade.

As a pretty experienced trader on this site, I just replied “forget about it” and I moved on. I made a mental note that this was likely a shady trader and never looked back.

Just felt like sharing this story given the current state of what’s happening. First off, trading rules on this site bar the sale of beer for $. Also if he was truly intending to make a trade, he should realize what he is signing up for as there is an inherent cost associated with trading (shipping costs and shipping supplies).

PS - looks like dabrees signed in to this site about 2 hours ago after his month absence.

 

It’s too bad there’s no way of knowing if this a-hole is back on BA with a different user name.

 

Pretty certain mods can check this out in some capacity based on IP address IIRC.

 

I hope so. And I do understand the lack of transparency on the issue, not wanting to give the banned users an opportunity to figure out how they can get around the barriers in place.

 

Sounds like the ultimate ****.

In all possible ways.

Insta-ban IP and any other conceivable way.

Draw and quarter his ass while we're at it.

 

OP, please leave bad feedback, last time @dabrees pulled this garbage he ended up with a feedback score of 100%.

People on this site get banned all the time for making snarky comments in threads, this guy still on here in spite of terrible trading behavior. In spite of apparently beer being sent, this guy needs to be banned.

 

@Slack thanks for the update. You have been beyond patient and reasonable throughout this. That said, please leave appropriate feedback. Which, in my opinion, should be bad.

Sure, he finally got back to your email - after how long, and has provided a tracking number, but I hope he doesn't think that gets him off the hook. However, given how his replies started off in the last bad trader thread I would suspect that he thinks he's fulfilled his end. I'll be very curious how the box turns out given all the changes to what was the original trade was.

Again, we all hope he was okay during his absence, but I do hope he comes to this thread and responds appropriately.

Only problem with this is most users are on a dynamic IP so it can and will change. If they block his IP all he has to do is either use a VPN as @Snowcrash000 suggested, or even simply unplug his modem/router for 30 mins and then reconnect it. Their ISP will issue them a fresh new IP address and they'd be right back on the site.

And while the chance isn't high, it's possible that another BA user in the area with the same ISP would pull that banned IP from the DHCP pool and not be able to access the site.

 

Within your negative feedback, after you say your piece, I'd put something like, "Search user in BT thread before trading." Something along those lines to direct people to these threads. Multiple.

 

BA needs to add a separate field to the feedback where people can add the link to bad trader thread. Or expand length of feedback field

 

OP does us all a favor and leave bad feedback, even if you get your beer.

 

@Slack , if the tracking # he gave you comes with more excuses and no box let us know.

I have a couple bottles to help you recoup some of the $ you are short. They aren't the bottles involved in your trade but pretty good none the less. I'm sure there are others here that would also chip in a bottle or two to help out a fellow BA.
