So after more then just a few "Hoppy" brews in at 1:18am EST, I for some very strange and odd reason realized I have not yet created my annual "Best Hoppy Beer Glass" thread! So with time and beer to kill after an exhausting day of work I welcome you to join in the updated poll of the Best Hoppy Beer Glass - 2019!

The Previous years poll as well what hoppy beer glasses mean for me can be found here:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/best-hoppy-beer-glass-2018-edition.585388/

In comparison to last years list this year's will feature a more compacted and narrowed down competitive list based on last years results. Which means no " The Ultimate Pint Be Hoppy Beer Glass" @Greywulfken and no Sauvin Beer Glass @TheIPAHunter even though I know you just got that that one!

This years edition will also add two NEW glasses that were not previously on the list. #1 - The traditional snifter because it's great at capturing aroma and also by virtue of it's name alone - "The Hoppy Beer Glass" by Pretentious Glass company.

    Have fun BAs, and Cheers!

Sam Adams perfect pint glass. Which the Spiegelua IPA glass just copied.

I have to admit that is one very underrated beer glass!

    Imperial pint nonic.

The Pretentious Glass Company should design it's next glass around the traditional Japanese tengu mask. Just like most of the current lineup of glassware, it would fit right in.

At home I drink almost all of my beers from a "snulip" (snifter/tulip cross-breed), specifically the one in my avatar.

I selected Teku. Although I’ve been using the Spiegelau a lot over the last year or two, I still prefer the Teku. It looks better (I find top heavy glasses aesthetically unpleasing) and it is much easier to swirl the beer for optimal aroma enhancement without spilling the beer. The angled lip is very comfortable.

Also, my Imperial Nonic Pint for bombers and growlers.

I'm stickin with my set of Duvel glasses. They do the job as well as many or most and they came "free" along with bottles of beer in gift sets. (Plus I'm comfortable with one, have my wife trained to not wash or mess with it, and kids know not to even touch it.)

Sometimes a use a snifter if I have something new and special that I expect to spend the evening with (e.g. a quad or barleywine) cause part of the fun is just being able to breath in those aromas.

For chatting with friends, etc. the Imperial nonic pint is just great.

That should be permanently banned on name alone! :grimacing:

Probably why "snulip" was later called a "Belgian beer glass"

While I'm in a nitpicking mood, :stuck_out_tongue: one of the poll choices is, "The Traditional Tulip."

These traditional beer glasses are also called "tulips", and are likely more traditional beer glasses than what we now call a tulip.

Traditional German Pilstulpen ("Pilsner Tulip") also called Biertulpe ("Beer tulip")

I voted tulip, but there’s many that work equally well. When I go to the local pub I always ask for a red wine glass, I have an aversion to shaker pints as a drinking glass. Most places here use shakers no matter what the beer unless it’s a high abv Stout, it’s easy to see why, they’re thick, they stack and they’re cheap, no one wants to steal them.. But I hate ipas in a shaker, The only place here that does it right with glass is the local German brewery, all proper glass.

Definitely agree with the Sam Adams perfect pint, a really fine, broad usage glass. In addition to the Spiegelau, there is a rather wider-mouthed pint glass with a flared top and nucleated bottom that I picked up at Captain Lawrence about a year ago that I have found useful.

No, but "snulip" sounds more interesting so I like to imagine it was the original, and "Belgian beer" was adopted by a glass-maker reluctant to use a mash-up word.

Sound's more interesting in a seat-back paper bag kind of way...

Those beer glasses are just as much tulips as Dale's Pale Ale or Pseudo Sue are Pale Ales.

I didn't name them. They've been called tulips for decades, longer even.

You left the best kind of glass off your list: The mason jar with a ribbed mouth for your drinking displeasure.

Chalk one up for the “worst” column, even though you didn’t ask.

Or overrated depending on how you look at it.

I picked "does glassware even matter".

I'm a glassware *****, I LOVE them. And I use the "appropriate" glass every time. But I honestly don't think it makes a huge difference. Probably makes some difference, but I don't think it's a big deal.

I mostly use my Spiegelau but I'll also use my Teku, my Hill Farmstead tulip (I think it's a tulip), my Bissell Brothers oversized tulip wine glass thing, a snifter, or my regular Bissell Brothers pint glass (this is a favorite in general).
