I have been waiting on a box back from RLew13 since July. Multiple attempts to communicate have been tried, he has logged in recently as of 2 weeks ago. He is located in the Tampa area.

I have done over 100 trades back in the day on the other site under the same name with all positive feedback, have never had this occur so I am unsure of how to even handle this. Any advice would be appreciated, anyone who knows him maybe can get him to finish this trade, etc.

    Thanks in advance.

Did you read through this: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/how-to-create-a-bad-trader-thread.258091/

And as @jrnyc mentions, the more details the better. Especially if you follow the guidelines of creating a bad trader thread.

@riversideak it appears you have 1 pending trade request, and 0 open trades. Did he not accept your sent request?

Saw that :grimacing:. And a recent join on here. Not promising.

I did read through it. I cannot leave feedback as he hasnt accepted the trade request. Trade was initiated in July, more than enough time to assume bad trade. Here are more details:

I replied to a request for Asheville beers from the Local ISO/FT Forum. I sent several Burial brewery only beers, a couple from Bhramari, and one from Twin Leaf and was supposed to receive some Tampa locals in return. Total value of the beer sent was $60. Send trade request after the fact as I am still not used to the trade system here.

Guess it is pretty unpromising so I may as well assume that I am out the beer/money. Oh well. I guess 1 out of over a 100 since 2009 isn't a bad percentage.

Unfortunately for you, the mistake was shipping before both sides had accepted the trade request.

Although, that you've done over 100 trades since '09, I assume that was on social media, other sites, or just outside of the system here...? Your profile has a crazy low amount of information associated with it relative to how old your account is.

And in the case that someone has fewer than 5 trades, they should ideally be trading with someone that has more of a track record.

That's unfortunate. Though, if you are an experienced trader (trades/years), then I'm not sure why you would send a box to someone who hadn't accepted your trade request.

Also, while neither of you have any logged trades on here, given your stated experience, you could have requested the other person ship first. That way, given you're on the level, then you could potentially avoid any money/beer being lost.

What was the dialogue like? Did you conduct your conversations through BA conversations or text, both?

Did you ever hear from the person after you sent your box that it had arrived and all was well? Did they then tell you when they would be shipping?

Obviously, some info was exchanged, their address, but did you get a phone number from them?

    Still so many questions...

Yea, @riversideak people seem to have covered things here, but you shouldn't have shipped beer until the trade was accepted. Can you elaborate on the communication between you and @RLew13? We really need to know what is going on here before its clear whats going on.

If @RLew13 agreed to a trade (over communication, not the accepted trade request on BA) and just never sent a box back, then he should probably just get banned.

This is a subtle point indeed. But he AGREED on the trade with the OP here over communication; maybe he just “forgot” to made it “official on BA”.

In this case and while the suspected BT was still browsing BA. I’d like to hear his side of the story and why he hasn’t sent the OP’s box.

Not banning anyone for now and leaving this open for clarification from all parties involved.

    Thanks!

He @RLew13 has NOT logged on in 3 weeks & 1 day. BOTH traders are @ fault here. Also, as a moderator, I have not seen any convo's or texts or any other information from OP to support their side of the story...not that I'm doubting the story, but it helps with facts and details to ensure we are all on the same page.

I will be more clear. I have only traded on BA way back in the day (2009-2010). I traded on RateBeer before it was bought out by AB under the same username. Will it get me banned for mentioning RB? Here is a link to my trade feedback and history on that site because it seems like I am being doubted:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/ratebeer/?path=/user/37954/trade-history/

The trades I completed on this site were before the current trade system had been put in place. I had not done a trade outside of an in person trade in a few years and was looking to do one, I did not know that the system had changed. My bad for not reading up. Things were slightly different back in the day, trades were agreed upon, people shipped, you got beer. I am at fault for not paying attention to details, but I do not think it is too much to assume people will follow up on agreements. In the end I am out $60 worth of beer, not a big deal.

Clearly the trade was agreed upon. Worrying about people not following through wasn't something that was an issue back in the day, it was never really an issue to ship first/second etc. Beer culture has changed and I guess that people in it have too. Thanks for taking a look at least. Cheers.

@riversideak Thats for posting that. I don't think anyone doubted you, it was more just we were trying to understand what exactly was going on before rendering a firm opinion.

After reading that thread, there is no excuse here for @RLew13. I find it especially telling that he immediately started off with excuses "justifying" his delay, then moved to a lack of response. Classic bad trader behavior. @dmbforever mentioned that Rlew hadn't logged on in 3 weeks, but looking at the date stamps on your conversation he has been on here since you sent all but that last message.

Do you have any way to contact this Ryan guy outside of BA?

I do not. Found him on instagram but has not accepted message request. It is what it is. I appreciate the help and guidance. Next time I trade on here I will make sure to make it official and not be so optimistic about people's character.

Sorry, @riversideak. This sucks. Just going by his username, I was beginning to wonder whether the BT was Ray Lewis of NFL fame, in which case merely stiffing someone on a beer trade would really be a step up for him.

OP, what Tampa locals were you supposed to get? Might be a FL BA willing to make it right for you. It's one of the beautiful things that frequently comes out of these shitty situations.

So, he's getting booted - right? More than enough time to come back online and explain, make things right, and be an upstanding member of the community - none of which I've seen happen. After not checking in for four weeks I think we can assume OP isn't getting his beers, and others have generously offered to step up. Get rid of this fool.
