    How is it?

How would you describe the taste?

Surprised I haven't heard of this style before. I'm a big rauchbier fan so needless to say this sounds right up my alley.

I homebrewed one before you could buy oak smoked malt, based on a Randy Mosher recipe. I should try brewing one again.

Selin's Grove brewpub in Selinsgrove, PA put one out several years ago. The name of the beer was Grodziskie, but on BA it was classed as smoke beer. Good smoky taste, was wishing Kielbasa was on the menu that night, would've paired great.

While I don't typically enjoy smoked beers, I enjoyed this one. Fairly light bodied with smoke and peat being the one-two hit from the nose through to the flavor. I would recommend it, although I've never had another version of this beer style before.

Local place by me called Noble Beast makes a really really good one. I’m not too big on smoked beers, but theirs is quite drinkable and refreshing. The tiniest bit of tartness along with it makes it really interesting.

Shared a growler of that one by the campfire on a cool fall evening. Good beer and good times.

It’s a cool style! Like @mambossa states, it’s got a light tartness that makes it refreshing and clean finishing and should be on the lighter bodied side and not overbearingly smoky. Can’t say I have this one all too often but it’s a nice change of pace. Smoked meats are an obvious pairing but for
Some reason (commuting home and I’m damned hungry) a cold glass and a tuna sandwich on soft pumpernickel bread with kettle chips and a pickle
    sounds amazing right about now.

Depending on where you are in Michigan, you can grab one at Farmington Brewing Co in summer, they do one for the Polish Festival and it usually stays on tap for a couple weeks. I really like the style.

And I can't remember which brewery it was but there was one in Traverse City that had one recently but I didn't get to try it.

I've had one that I enjoyed but I cannot for the life of me recall what brewery it was. I tend to enjoy smoked beers, perhaps too much, so I might not be the best judge.

I am not a fan of rauchbiers but I have really enjoyed the examples of grodzizkies that I've had.

    To the OP's broader point,

There is a Fritz Briem one that was solid: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/23495/75608/

This one was outstanding and if I could find it here in Chicago Id drink it regularly: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/45369/227941/?ba=FBarber#review
