Everything You Need To Know About The Hottest Style Of Beer Right Now https://www.chatelaine.com/food/drinks/sour-beer-faq/
Is the last category of “modern sour” an option on this site? I’ve personally struggled categorizing a few sour beers when adding them. I knew they were not lambics, Belgians, Flanders style, or wild ales. Any chance of a new category? Here is my most recent conundrum: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/37051/439252/ Thanks so much!
This is the least I've drank sour beers since I started drinking sour beers. Has this been the case for anyone else?
I've never been a heavy drinker of sours in bottles/cans from the store, and drink about the same as I always have. But I look forward to visiting the occasional brewery that specializes in sours and does them right. (Fermented in barrels.)
"Modern sour" might be something to think about, or "kettle soured" as they're not exactly "wild ales".
I can drink kettle sours on occasion, but I like the funk from wild ales, lambics and gueze are where I'm most happy. Some of the low ABV fruit pureed sours when done well can be quite good. Thinking of some of the stuff from The Answer and Burley Oak's J.RE.A.M series (although B.O's cam be hit or miss IMO).
Yes, we desperately need more sour style options on this site, which is something that has been discussed several times, but keeps getting pushed back. Honestly, given how popular and widespread the Kettle Sour style has become it's really quite baffling that we don't have a style option for it here. For the time being, most people enter them as American Wild Ales, which is very wrong, but really the only option currently. Some people prefer to enter them as Berliner Weiße, which are essentially Kettle Sours, but a very specific type and a protected appelation, so not really a good option either. It would actually be quite helpful if everyone would enter them as American Wild Ales for the time being, as that will make the conversion to the correct style much easier when it is eventually added.
