Sometimes we need something bad to happen to give us a wake up call. I too, love this beer world we live in today. And I have a serious "hobby" with it. For the most part, I think I have found a balance. I hope you find that too. But if you don't, life is so much more important than beer. I wish you massive success.

No soap used in it, and no dishwasher here. Really hard water in my area, thanks to all the granite here. It makes it really hard to get the glasses clean.

Last week I drank and posted about the three different beers in the Sierra Nevada / Sufferfest mixed six. The pic above is from the web. I liked the odd "kolsch" but the pale ale and stout didn't float my boat. Well, since then, I drank the remaining cans of each one. I didn't change my opinion on the pale ale, the stout provided more coconut and was slightly more pleasurable, but I was mainly curious about getting a second take on the kolsch. This time around, I got way more hop character. It was a bit like hop water. Not bad, if you want hop water with less alcohol and gluten than Michelob Ultra... but I'm sticking with Sierraveza instead.

    Good morning NBS
    Today's new beer...
    The review:
16oz can ENJOY BY 20 MAR 2020 poured into a nonic pint glass at fridge temp 8.2% ABV. The beer pours nearly black with minimal light penetration and abundant mocha colored head. The head recedes to fat cap and leaves plenty of lacing. The aroma is cold brewed coffee, dark chocolate and earthy hops. The taste is bittersweet chocolate and coffee with a moderate to strong earthy bitterness coming on mid palate. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with average carbonation and a semi dry finish. No cloying sweetness, but the lactose is evident. There's a touch of alcohol heat in the finish, but it's fairly integrated. Overall, good.

Cheers all and enjoy the new beer in your glass today!

Tart aroma on the pour, apple, pineapple, guava

Taste is guava , hint of pineapple, tart but the lactose softened the taste , coconut on the finish

Good morning NBS, miserable raw high 30s and mixed precip here in WMass, so why not a second offering. Meeting later today with family to draw the names for the holiday exchanges.
Thankfully its at the Northampton Brewery, and they will have the Irish session in full swing, they got to find some Quebecois music!
    Cheers all

    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4

Poured from the 12 oz bottle dated 2017 into the test glass.
A - Muddy copper color, carbonation looks like it's struggling to make it top side. Thin ring of off white clings to the glass wall
S - Toffee, vanilla, phenols, alcohol. spicy grains, Orange marmalade on rye toast, light brown sugar.
T - Start with the sweet toffee, vanilla, then rye barrel, base grains again are like marble rye bread, love the orange candy thread as well
M - Slick, semi sweet then a bit of alcohol exhale, gentle carbonation is no match so the experience rides on the barrel treatment.
O - A very good barrel treatment of a very good base beer, this was purchased with the time on it, I will look for a fresher model to compare.

I have no golfing stories, but I enjoyed yours, @lordofthewiens ... I haven't retired yet (an engineer who just can't quit engineering!), but when I do, my retirement activities will include travel, camping (well, RV-ing anyway), visiting grandkids, computer geeking (there is no such thing as an ex-engineer...), and probably continuing officiating youth sports as long as I am physically able.

    But, to the beer...

I don't usually start quite this early, but as an engineer, I do pay attention to the "documentation", so, morning it is....

    ABV: 8.9%
    IBU: 20

Enjoying this with my ham and eggs...

Tall, thick, creamy-looking khaki head above a deeply black body. The head grows dramatically once the pour stops. The body is so deeply black you barely get any of the typical ruby edges with a backlight. The head has good retention, and leaves disconnected lacing. Georgeous look in the Imperial tulip pint glass.

Strong coffee aroma, roasted coffee and malts, chocolate behind.

Wow! The mouthfeel is smooth, thick, creamy, but not quite chewy. A little carbonation contribution, but not much.

Taste is coffee-forward, rich, decadent, with chocolate and lactose. There is a slight bitterness in the finish that lingers in the aftertaste for a short while, but dissipates leaving a thick coffee and chocolate, smoothed with lactose, flavors to savor (although the bitterness does become a bit more pronounced in the aftertaste as the beer warms). No hint of the 8.9% ABV.

Overall, it has a very rich feel and flavor, slightly sweet but never cloying. An excellent sipping beer, decadent enough for an after dinner desert, but not as sweet as describing it as such might imply. I love this beer.

This is one hell of a funky, wild flavor. Nice flavor from the peaches, but it goes way beyond them. Just a very complex beer, and I really have a tough time putting it all to words.

Pours a creamy looking golden color. 2 finger white head. The head retention is good. Some lacing on the glass.
Aroma - Funky! I got a really wild, funky aroma opening up the bottle. Up close I get just a funk bomb. I get lots of wild fruit, and wild flowers. It's a tart aroma also. Really complex, and hard to put to words.
Taste - Funky, and wild tasting. Fruity. Slightly tart. So many flavors mixed into this beer.
Crisp feeling. The feeling lingers in my throat. It's almost like a really hopped IPA how much it clings to my throat.
I am a fan of wild beers, and this is a wild one. Quite good.

I'll be back after lunch with more.

Football's coming up soon, time to start drinking beer.
Today's new beer is Hammer of the Lion from Clown Shoes. It is an "imperial stout blended with Wee Heavy ale aged in rum, bourbon, and brandy barrels." It was canned 05/27/19 and is 11% ABV.
A very dark brown color. No head, just a bit around the rim and in the center of the glass.
Boozy aroma, cola, chocolate, a little vanilla.
Brandy more apparent in the taste, sweet chocolate, a hint of dark coffee.
Medium-bodied, sweet. Warming at the end.

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz wide Snulip glass bottled recently. Pours a beautiful mahagony with a finger off white head that leaves thin streaks of lace as it slowly settles into a thin collar of bubbles around the edges of the glass. 4.5

Smell is biscuit, brown sugar, cocoa, dates, almonds, fruity esters, cocoa, oaky vanilla, and some hints of warming alcohol really nice. 4.5

Taste follows brown sugar, almonds, dark fruit, chocolate, woody vanilla, and just a hint of alcohol that warms your entire soul and makes you crave yet another gentle sip. 4.75

Mouthfeel is bigger than average, soft carbonation, slightly watery yet some stickiness, and at 10.7% a dipper that you want to let warm to in courage all the complex flavors to open up and get even better and more pronounced. 4.5

Overall this is a style that really got me into craft beer and honestly this is one of the best I have had in a very long time. Highly recommend this one. 4.5

I have not played golf since moving from NC in 1988. I have played a lot of soccer and lacrosse in the intervening years. A transition to a lighter exercise may be necessary.
A new beer today is Sunset Mosaic, a NE style IPA from Beer Tree Brew Co

This pale can pour is cloudy white-yellow with a 1 cm cap and light grapefruit aroma. The woody malt base contributes substantial body and flavor. The hop flavors are strong, berry, bubblegum and flowery notes are most prominent. The hop bitterness is moderate. -well done

    Yeti smore
...solid black with thin dark tan head
..light carbonation with an at least average body. Has a nice thick creamy feel
..aroma is everything coffee, coffee grinds, espresso beans, bitter black coffee. The smore is there but had to wait a bit till it registered
..taste stays true to aroma, every version of coffee I can think of. Graham, marshmallow, vanilla show up at the end
..even though it was light on the s'more it was still really good and something I would get again[IMG]

Good morning and happy New "Bleezin" Sunday, BAs. Though it's still the weekend, I'm considering this day two of my first vacation in over a year. Been a whirlwind of an experience. Hired as an Operator with 6 months probation, moved directly into an Operations Specialist position with another 6 months probation (well, I did have 10 days in between), all while dealing with the glories of having two small children going through the processes of "immunity building" without being able to take a day off! Despite that process, the City of Portland has decided be nothing but provide for a better lifestyle and one hell of a learning experience.

Rant over. Time for a breakfast beer! This one provided by the overly generous @2beerdogs , who, for no other reason than me joining the most recent NBS BIF, offered up an LIF in my direction. Can't thank you enough, Derek!

    Scotia
    - Scotch Ale (Wee Heavy)

A beautiful color to this Wee Heavy. Crimson red with dark maple syrup highlights with perfect clarity. The off white cap above is minimal despite a vigorous pour, and leaves no trace behind.

Ahhh... Finally. It's been a while since I've had a "Wee Heavy" that actually smells like one, made on this side of the pond. Kettle caramelization galore. A little bit of fig and plum with an overall sense of dialed down sticky bun goodness.

Tons of jammy flavors match the aroma wonderfully. Fig and plum once again with support from red grapes and cherry juice. A nice bready finish accompanied by a mild spiciness is a delicious end.

Big bold sweetness with just a touch of spice wrapped up in a slightly thin feeling body, despite a sticky finish. Moderate carbonation and noticeable chest burn from the smooth booze.

This was a very pleasant surprise. I love me a good Scottish Ale, especially a Wee Heavy. Most I've had recently have been more like imperial amber ale completely missing that kettle caramelization, but this one brings it. Bump up the body a bit, hook it up with some creamy foam, and this here is a huge success. Still is regardless, in my opinion.

After my official review, I gave Scotia a rating of 4.07 with an rDev of +2.8%. Slàinte mhath!

Everything will work out fine if you want it to work out fine, and it’s very fortunate it’s only going to cost you a little money, no one was hurt. A wake up call for everyone who reads this because I’m sure we’ve all done this at one time or another we just didn’t get caught. It’s why Ive always maintained a two beer limit if I’m out, sometimes only one if it’s really high abv. Wishing you the best here.
