BA IPAs are typically not my favorite but this sounds interesting.

 

Rather see a plain old oak aged IPA, I like those

Foothills did some BA Hoppyum many years ago, brewery only. Imo it was damn good, really heavy on the bourbon like really heavy. I’d love to see that Torpedo but probably not here, and if it shows it’ll be 4 months old already. Is it just here that the distribution network sucks?

 

Doubt it since Mills River didn't open until 2015.

 

There are some recent Untappd check-ins of this beer from SN Chico taproom. @nc41 I bet it'll be at the Mills River location at some point.

I had a BA Hoptimum in 2016 and I recall that it was fantastic. Lots of barrel, vanilla and sweet citrus.

 

Bourbon and IPA... anyone else fell hungover just reading about this?

 

According to the rear label, the "Celebrating 10th Anniversary" line refers to Torpedo being first brewed in 2010.

 

I’m 4 hours plus from Asheville unfortunately, maybe more being Mills River is further out than Asheville.

 

This is the current label (listing and OP). 2013 was painted bottle with all gold ink.
These were packaged in November 2019.

 

Torpedo is only 10 yrs old?

 

Surprisingly even to us, it ages great... Don't forget it was in a barrel for almost a year.

I had the 2013 version at least 6 months after packaging and it was still good.

When our barrel team originally proposed a barrel-aged IPA to Dresler and the team, we cringed... Only to be proven wrong. It's tasty.

 

This to me would be no different that aging lasagna in a barrel of mayonnaise.

The beer industry seems determined to strengthen the relationship between beer and whisky and I could not be further from caring.

 

Always love the comments prior to even giving it a shot (pun intended). Like I said, we had the same opinion until we tried it.

It was Whiskey in this case.

 

Just checked... They have cases at the Mills River brewery.

 

I'm a regular SN consumer...but this is a hard no on concept alone.

Maybe as a packaged offering. I know I had it on draft prior to 2008.

 

It was available across the US in bottles in early 2009. It was available on draft in previous incarnations while they developed the recipe for a few years before that. It looks like this recent barrel aged version was brewed and put into barrels roughly 10 years after those first Torpedo bottles came out.

 

I'll buy you one.
