People who are active in the BA community and fall into the "Society" and "Poobah" range are usually the older set, I find. The rest of us in the lower categories are the majority and younger it would seem.

    I'm surprised the 25-35 range isn't a larger percentage.

    As a 65+ BA I agree.

I guess I'm in the majority here at 27.

You're moving into a new cantegory.

Initially I was surprised by these statistics. However, if I correctly remember the mix of music videos I have seen on the posts it seems about right.

It would be very very interesting to see the age profile of those who prefer ales and IPA's, to those who prefer lagers/pilsners (excluding Bud and Coors Light, which are more like a rice-brewed Saki than a more traditional lager, IMO).

Cat 4, which for user ages means upper quartile. This should mean I only drink the best beers, but unfortunately what I'm drinking now doesn't pass muster (Belhaven Scottish Ale), but I suspect the other three from today's beer run will: Yeti Imperial Stout, Black Butte XXXI, and The Abyss.

No surprise here for me. Im 30 and i find that my age range really seems to be into craft beer, and continuing to pursue more beer.

Wow, when I joined Beeradvocate back in 2001, I was in category 1; now I am in category 3. Two observations come to mind: I have been a member of Beeradvocate for a long time, and I am truly getting old.

Isn't the desired demographic the 18-24 range? If so, then you could consider BA more for "older folks". But then again, as one of the "older folks" (Cat 3) I really don't care...

Seriously though, I'm honestly loving the stats you're putting out. Very interesting. I would have guessed the percentages of Cat 3 and 4 to be much higher than they are.

From what I can find it looks like 21-34 years old is the primary target age for beer advertisers.

Brewbound has a good article from July about craft drinker demographics, good infographics and numbers for those into that sort of thing.

Good Beer Hunting has an excellent article about correlations between political beliefs and the styles of craft beer you drink.

Interesting, if one adds up the Google #s one comes to a total of 99.99. On the other hand the BA numbers add up to 90.53. Where do the other 9.47 fit, under 18 ??

Another stat that might be interesting is the percentage based on the year we signed up tor an id.

In my case, I followed this site almost since its inception. But didn't get an ID until it was required for a certain level of access. Even then lurked for years before engaging.

Anyway might be interesting to see the stats on when prople signed up.

As noted, "rough percentages." But I just ran through the numbers again with a more precise query and updated the post with the new results. Still rough, but it adds up to 99.1% now.

Age Range = Updated | Previous
    1. 25-34 = 31.01% | 31.00%
    2. 35-44 = 34.36% | 30.06%
    3. 45-54 = 17.96% | 15.61%
    4. 55-64 = 9.85% | 8.58%
    5. 65+ = 4.89% | 4.26%
    6. 18-24 = 1.03% | 1.02%
The biggest change was the 35-44 range.

As I approach my 14th year on this site, I realize I'm a couple years away from hitting my 3rd different age bracket.

At what point does savvy, veteran turn into old dude?
