Funny what we perceive in a lot of things, there’s no right or wrong, just the way it is,

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Now stop with the unnecessary compliments or I won't send you anymore beer.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Cheers to your memories of Cash and I hope all is going well with the new doggos.

I knew this was one of the few places geeky enough to appreciate these. The few friends and family that know me enough will sometimes ask about any books I'm reading currently. To these say say gorme-whata

    Cheers all.

That is a good question but my visit to the brewery was a couple of years ago. I had a number of sample size beers and while I thought they were good I was not eventually motivated to buy cans of them nor re-visit the brewery. I suppose this is a long winded way to say that if you are ever in the area for some reason I would recommend you visit.

    Cheers!

Ok, no more compliments. I'm thinking horrible thoughts about you for all the beer you've sent.:sunglasses:. The doogos are good. Had a pretty significant fight this morning over a toy. Lily had a little blood drawn, but they seem good now. Still working on the adjustment. But they're great dogs and fitting in great with the family.

    Canned 01 Dec 2019.
Moderate to vigorous pour yields a 3/8" tan head over a near black body with some lacing. Nose of booze with dark fruit, dark chocolate, and bitter chocolate. Taste mirrors nose with a finish of booze, chocolate, and dark fruit sweetness that begs for another sip. Nice feel and overall, a great BBA Stout, especially after warming .
Cheers to Sixpoint for another stellar stout!!!

Well, I’d planned to be more active in NBS in 2020. This is my first one of the year and the first month of the year is almost over... I will try better in February.

Growing up, my dad did most of the cooking. He was a very good cook. He loved French cooking and, though he almost never watched TV, he loved to watch Jacques Pepin and Julia Child on weekends. I was a very picky eater as a child, but I loved his Beouf Bourginion, Coq au Vin and coquilles St. Jacques. Unfortunately, he died when I was 21 and he was 50. He would have loved retirement and getting a chance to cook more. I miss him most when family gathers for special meals.

Beer was not really his thing. He liked rum and good French wine. Rum I can take or leave. Good French wine I like. But, I like beer more, and I like both classic styles and new-fangled abominations. Tonight I drink the latter:

Blood Brothers Mara, a bourbon barrel aged imperial stout with salted peanuts.

This beer pours a thick jet black from a 500ml bottle. Little to no head from a vigorous pour. Moreover, before cracking the crown, I rolled this around a little. When purchased from the brewery several months back, you could see a marble swirl of black and brown from the peanut in the bottle. That had settled at the bottom of the bottle over time and I wasn’t able to recreate the marble. I was able to get the peanut back into suspension and off the bottom of the bottle.

A sweet peanut dominates the nose. The barrel is not present in the nose at all, but there are some chocolate notes in the background. No roastiness.

A sip reveals sweetness up front, not cloying or off-putting, with a sweet peanut taste that follows. The finish reveals a little of the bourbon barrel and a nice subtle saltiness.

This is a very thick beer. In part I assume the peanut in the bottle helps in this regard, but it isn’t syrupy. This thickness seems appropriate for the style.

Overall, I think this is a good peanut stout. It is on the sweet side, but comes across at an reasonable level. It is certainly among the better peanut stouts I’ve had. I’m glad I bought another bottle so that I can share it with a friend.

    Cheers!

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks, as always, to @cjgiant for getting us going this (almost) New Birthday Sunday.

Tuesday marks another trip around the sun for me. It'll be a work day, so nothing terribly ambitious will be contemplated. I might grab a meal somewhere instead of cooking one, and perhaps will open a special bottle.

Today I'm hitting a beer I had high hopes for, as I enjoy the contradiction-in-terms that is the "White Stout."

Not too impressed. Perhaps too old (canned in September; I misread the label and thought it was 8% instead of 6, and therefore could sit a while), but there's not much here to remind one of a stout. Instead it reminds me of a cream ale crossed with a Dr. Pepper, and has an aroma similar to...cheese.

Hop Wallop was the first beer I ever received in a trade, from a guy who wanted some Poseidon (RIP) from Fish Brewing. This was back in the mid-00s and that guy has been gone from BA over a decade, can't even remember his name.

@cjgiant I can identify with less than culinarily adventurous parents. My Dad doesn't like poultry or fish and can no longer eat anything spicy or very tomato-y due to acid reflux. My Mom has never been able to tolerate any spiciness and doesn't like pork. So, I ate a lot of beef and potatoes growing up!
