Phase Three/Bottle Logic Vanilla Backbox Vanilla Imp IPA, 4.28 overall

Pours a hazy & effervescent gold with 2 fingers of eggshell colored head. Some head retention & lacing

S: Citrus, some vanilla, leafy hops once warm

T: Straight-up orange creamsickle, some dryness up front. Orange and vanilla with a touch of lime and a little pomelo & leafy hops as this warms. Finishes dry with more pomelo than orange & a little vanilla sweetness

MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation, sort of creamy, lovely balance

    Really enjoyed this

    375 ml. bottle.
    Brewed September 13, 2019.
This is the last Wunderkammer Bier from Greensboro Bend, VT.
Moderate pour yields a 5/4 inch white head over a slightly hazy light golden body with some sticky lacing. Nose of citrus, honey, and loads of floral/herbal aromas as well. Taste mirrors nose closely with a great tart finish. Superb feel and overall, another smooth and delicious offering. Wow!
    Cheers to Vasili!!

Super Brew II, also from Bare Hands, this is Fourteener, an imperial stout featuring 14 malts that is superb.

This big imperial stout pours black with some leakage to mahogany on the edges, underneath a dense tan head. The nose is crammed full of rich milk chocolate notes and a significant char aroma.

The taste is all about milk chocolate and cocoa flavors - if you like chocolate (and I LOVE chocolate), you’ll love this beer.

It has a creamy mouthfeel that accentuates the chocolate and char flavors, and in no way does it drink like a 10.5% ABV beer. Truly dangerously drinkable.

Go KCNINERZ!!!!! (am I spoartzballing right?) Current beer is a nice, clean lager, courtesy of @Roguer , Left Leg Lager by Wicked Barley. Nice crisp, clean, dry finish. Great beer for the chow we're having.

Glad you liked it, Terry! After I tried it at the brewery, I figured it was something you'd appreciate. Not flashy, not loaded with flavorings, not barrel aged - but overall, pretty decent Helles. We would do well to have more "decent" "simple" beers like Helles and pilsners instead of more mediocre haze bombs and pastry stouts.

Time to weigh in on this topic. I'm a very uneven drinker. I generally don't drink at all on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday I usually have two beers. Thursday, I most often have one. Friday is generally two. Most of my beer drinking is on the weekends and the amount varies depending on whether my wife and I hit a brewery on Saturday.

Beer #2 - the second Schell's Brewer's Stash Box exclusive:

    Schell’s Stag Series Arctic Ale
    English
    (not British) Barleywine
    ABV: 9.0%
    IBU: NA

A somewhat vigorous pour into an Imperial pint tulip glass results in a tall, off-white, thick and creamy head above a clear amber body with ample carbonation bubbles rising. The color is a bright golden amber with a backlight. There is very good looking lacing left behind as the head recedes at a moderate pace.

Aroma promises sweet caramel malts and stone fruit. Not too strong, but very inviting.

Taste is rich and malty, earthy, as befits an English-style barleywine (a pox on BA calling this style "British"... Ugh!).

Anyhow, back to the beer. As I said, malty and rich, hardly any hops in evidence, but plenty of flavor - caramel, raisins, ripe plums. The finish is a touch sweet, and just a hint of perhaps some hops applying a light bittering that quickly fades into a rich, malty and satisfying finish.

The feel is also rich, with a nice coating of the tongue.

I've overused with word "rich" in this review, but that is because it is so apropos. A wonderful, malty, rich barleywine.

    Good evening NBS
I had plans for a bomber of imperial stout, but came home from work to find my wife sick. Taking it easy and helping out...

12oz bottle BB 09-05-20 poured into a tulip glass at fridge temp 4.5% ABV. The beer pours barely hazy in a dull orange amber color with nearly white head and a constant stream of carbonation rolling to the surface. The head recedes to a thin ring and leaves some lacing. The aroma is mild with bubblegum, clove and hints of spice. The taste is more of the same with spices at the forefront over a honey, light malt base. Minimal bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with above average carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, very good. A well made, spice driven low ABV saison. An uncareful second pour takes the look to full hazy and the carbonation never stops.

Thanks for the opening remarks @lordofthewiens. I took a brief break from alcohol this January of only 12 days, but it did wonders to reset my tolerance and give me time to reflect. I still quite enjoy NBS & WBAYDN, but feel less of a compulsive obligation to join in daily or even have a drink without posting. Cheers all and enjoy the new beer in your glass tonight!

Greetings everyone. Another balmy day here in the kingdom. Spent the afternoon installing a force field to contain the three dog herd. For dogs who are supposed to be relative couch potatoes, they sure love running outside. Problem is we have six acres, but it is all behind the house. Historically, there was a one lane road out front. Today it is basically a rural highway and only 23 feet from the from what used to be the main front door. Traffic is much heavier now and of course faster and less attentive. So, fence 'em in since we are continuing to work on basic obedience.

Gracing today's glass is a brand new beer. Yep...me with the intact fossil record going new school...

Jack's Abby Galaxy Brau. I didn't look for any information, so I was kinda thinkin' a single hop version of Hop Union, but it isn't that. It is 5.5% ABV, so almost in the session category but not really.

OK so recalibrate. This pours a very clear gold, compact head that hangs well. Laces a little, but the liquid surface maintains a nice little blanket.

It opens quite fruity with strong passion fruit and peachy aroma with just a bit of grapefruit - duh...Galaxy. Holding that up is a clean, biscuit malt smell. This is a clean aroma and relatively straightforward.

The taste is defined by the hops. It delivers Galaxy in spades. But it is a bit one dimensional. In my opinion it needs a bit more malt balance. It is there, but not by much.Very mild bitterness. The citrus get lemony on the finish.

Lively carbonation, light body. If they were going for light, clean, and refreshing then they hit it dead on. The lemon begins to linger a bit.

So...highly drinkable, light, refreshing. Well made - sure. No lager flaws here. Classified here as an American lager and by the brewer as an IPL. Yeah, but it isn't like any of their other IPL offerings. Good hot weather, easy drinking refreshment beer. I am feeling this is a 3.75 beer at best - hits a target, well made, but a bit uninspiring.

Greetings, fellow NBSers, on this New Beer Super Bowl Sunday. Thanks to @lordofthewiens for getting us going today.

Tuesday was my birthday, and I had several excellent beers, along with a decent amount of bourbon thanks to a couple friends of mine. The hangover on Wednesday morning was rather epic.

Today I'm hitting a dessert stout from The Bruery while rooting for the Chiefs (although I don't have particularly strong feelings about it. I just think it's time Andy Reid got a ring and I like Patrick Mahomes).

    Bell's Blackbeard's Bear Hug

For NBS today, I started off with the non-alcoholic beer, and gradually worked my way up to this beast... or bear of a beer. It's Blackbeard's Bear Hug, and it's a 14.4% rum barrel aged stout with vanilla, cinnamon and coconut. For a split second, the appearance was awesome... with it's red head. But that head disappeared immediately and left something terrible in its wake.

I call particles that settle to the bottom sediment. "Floaties" has been the term for particles scattered throughout a beer. This is the first time that I had a beer that only had particles floating all over the surface of the beer. Like pond scum. I'm going to start to call this stuff "scum." This beer had scum. It was an unpleasant sight. I love Bell's. It's rare that they disappoint me. This beer had scum.

It tastes like you'd expect. It's an amalgamation of what it says on the label - which is something that today's consumer wants. It tastes like a dessert. I thought I'd have trouble drinking this entire beer when I started, but once I got used to it, I had less trouble than predicted. Nonetheless, beers like this just aren't what I want in a beer. Love the label though.
