I posted this on Twitter and Facebook earlier today. Some places have closed until further notice, but many are still operating and there's a chance to help support them right now.

    --

    Invest in the future.

If available, buy gift cards at your local beer bars and brewery taprooms.

Grab some beer-to-go and merch, too.

But be safe, listen to their pickup procedures, and tip their staff well.

And many are still brewing. Buy local beer wherever you see it.

    --

Additionally, some with kitchens are also offering food pickup and delivery services.

You can help support and find beer locations in operation during the COVID-19 health crisis using #gregslist:

This is what Alvarado Street Brewery is doing and I am making the trip down to Salinas to support them.

Virtually every brewery, taproom and bottle shop here in the greater Seattle area is doing this. Added bonus is if you buy by the case they are offering HUGE discounts (25-50% in most cases)

We are doing to go beer and trying to continue with mostly normal production in Tombstone. We expect draught sales to dry up almost entirely so we might switch to canning all of our beer for a little while. That’s assuming we can get the cans and people can afford to buy beer in this crazy time. My biggest concern right now is not making money for the business but keeping the employees paid with as minimal interference to their daily lives as possible.

I posted this earlier on the "How is Covid19 impacting your beer advocacy" thread.

All taprooms shut down in CT. One of my locals (Little House Brewing) just announced- order crowlers on line, pick them up on their porch. I am going to only buy beer this way until things are open again. Hopefully many others do and keep these businesses and their employees afloat.

smart, especially if it's ipas. Won't help anyone if beer just sits and sits.

Saw this brought up elsewhere, but - are establishments allowed to use gift card funds immediately upon purchase?

The original poster said funds are not available to the establishment until the gift card has been 'redeemed'.

my local taproom and bottleshop is closed for on-premises sales but started today offering home delivery. My order will be here soon.
I don't (can't) drive, while I don't get there as often as I would like I am really glad they are there and as a former small business owner, I feel compelled to do what I can to help them right now.

For whatever it's worth, we've had at least one brewery around here start canning all their beer. Previously they would do to-go beer in 12oz 'crowlers' they'd fill up for you on-the-spot. Now they're accepting call-ahead orders and dropping the price of each can to be a more reasonable 4-pack price (i.e. not draft price per can). It's becoming quite tempting to drive out there and pick up a 4 pack or two when I can get their English Dark Mild in a larger pack.

The ones that are big enough will survive, but there are a few smaller ones around here that don't have to-go or canning capabilities. I'm not going to front someone money that I have no guarantee that they'll be around in 6 months. I think ordering beer online is still prohibited around here (haven't ever needed to try it and don't see a need to), so the whole "order online and come pick it up" won't work for the smaller breweries that are draft-only at this point.

I really hope all my locals make it thru this. I know I will buy as much local as I can and support as I can. I really think the can option is key, get the beer out and folks will buy it if they can. The big issue is logistics, etc. If drivers are sick, stores are closed, etc. that sort of jacks up the process.
All we can do is hope this passes fast, good luck to every business out there and your community supports you and appreciates you all.
    Cheers

I could be off base here but this seems outrageous considering the gift card could be lost or never redeemed

My babe and I are both employed by the government so we’re lucky in this case... that said, we’ve made a list of local businesses that we’ve committed to spending some money at.

There’s about 10 places on our list and 5 are breweries and another is a beer bar lol..

Our community is built on breweries and service industry type folks so we’re happy to help support them through this stretch.

That's a good point. I'm not sure if the person saying that was grounded in truth or not. I'm hoping we can hear from someone who sees the operation side of a gift card.

It seems like there are some major credit card company supported gift cards that have a time limit on funds. It's usually a rather long time (2yrs after purchase), but it does mean a lost card would result in funds being transferred to the credit card company (eventually).

My favorite place, Logboat (see avatar) has announced they're shutting down and working on a drive-thru beer stand.

FWIW, no confirmed Covid-19 cases in our county, yet.

Many here are offering curbside pickup and got permission to deliver beer within a short distance. At least one has announced they plan to can just about all the beer they produce as they don't anticipate needing kegs in the near future.
I've heard of one brewery shutting down indefinitely.

Idea for helping local breweries: Everyone buy a gift card/certificate from your favorite brewery now (or very soon). Then, on your birthday (or chosen holiday), have a party at that brewery and use your gift card to buy the first round.
Maybe wait a week. Some breweries don't have gift card programs set up yet.
