#2, the macro beer. I bought this around the holidays, and forgot about it. I picked up a bottle last week and noticed the “Best by” date (tomorrow) and figured I could share this in my favorite recurring thread on this site.

The beer surprised me - in a very good way.

Pours black with a compact, light tan head and a bit of leakage to mahogany on the edges. The nose is a little roasty malt, as well as some cocoa - and are those noble hop aromas? I did not expect this.

The taste is led by that cocoa note, and a subtle espresso flavor, and I am indeed picking up a noble hop flavor, a grassy flavor that edges towards grainy, probably due to the malt influence.

The mouthfeel is crisp, per the style. I saw another review for this beer that essentially called this a light porter, and I think that is spot on. If you want a flavorful, slightly roasty lager for a cool spring evening, this works really well.

Just had a video chat with my parent, my sister and my nephew. It was nice to see and hear from everyone, it was extra nice to see my nephew since he is 1 and just having fun with playing the the camera and a new ball he got. Seeing him just having fun and not worried about everything happening was refreshing.

On to another beer from @beertunes, pFriem Pilsner.

Back with a new IPA from Fox Farm courtesy of @Roy_Hobbs:

Pours a matte dirty yellow color. Completely opaque. Two finger white velvety head displays amazing head retention. Some soapy lacing was left on the glass as I drank the beer. Aroma was very herbal and almost vegetal - and I don't mean herbal as a euphemism for marijuana - I mean it literally smells like dried herbs. Light notes of lemon grass and a whiff of citrus are also noted. The taste is essentially a nice clean malt base with a very bitter, earthy hop flavor painted on top of that. The hows have notes of dried sawgrass, hints of limes, an earthy - almost dirt like flavor - overall its pretty bitter with a mildly astringent finish. Feel is medium bodied for a pale ale with a nice vibrant carbonation. the bitterness lingers on the finish with a palpable presence on the palate. Overall the beer itself was fine, but I was not a big fan of the hops - these "freestyle hops NZL-60" - that they used in the beer.

I'll be back later with a final new beer during The Last Dance.

Pours a pineapple color. 1 finger white head. Retention is decent. There's some beautiful lacing on the glass.
The nose is very tropical. Lots of mango, like crazy amounts. Just a slight pineapple hint to my nose.
Taste - Well, I got a ton of ,mango from the nose, but, the flavor is pineapple forward. The mango is a backside flavor.
The body is decent. The hops do linger a bit in my throat.
    All around good IPA.

Closed the store at 6 tonight, came home, and had a couple with my neighbors as it was such a nice evening in the 60's! We shared Lawson's Chinooker'd and Hill Farmstead Double Riwaka. Now inside contemplating dinner and will probably only review one new beer.

    12 oz can.
    Canned 03/26/20.
Moderate to vigorous pour yields a 5/8 inch white head over a near bright straw colored body with some lacing. Nose of cracker, biscuit, and slight grass. Taste mirrors nose fairly closely with a finish of biscuit-y yeast and slightly sweet. Nice feel and overall, highly quaffable and would recommend to any and all pilsner fans out there to see what a mostly IPA brewery can do with a pilsner recipe.
    Cheers!!!

Oldest is six? Lucky you. Some days probably don’t make you feel that way, but enjoy them as long as you can. Mine are late 20s and early 30s, which blows my mind every time I think about it. I don’t feel old, but damn, I’m old. Six is full of optimism and joy, which we all could use in abundance!

Well Hello Somewhat Late Night (EST) NBS.
Still trying to find a groove with all of this staying at home, working endless hours in an ADD-like haze. Trying to teach, console, inspire, checkin, etc.... while helping supporting my wife in the same (with KINDERGARTENERS!!!) and WHILE trying to maintain my own daughters' health and learning. We have a tough row to hoe ahead...
But thankfully I have a fruity drink from @larryi86 . He hit me so hard in NBS BIF #11 that my liver still cringes at the mere mention of his name. :joy:

Purple with a lavender hue when held up to strong light.
Bubbly head rises 2 fingers and quickly falls.
Aroma is gently acidic, with mild blueberry jelly notes, followed by hints of blood orange.
Taste is a melange of vinegar-tinged blueberries and a mild red wine blend, along the lines of a Beaujolais.
Light in the mouth. Acidic finish. Mild carbonation. A bit puckering.
Overall, a tasty and complex wild ale that takes a subtle fruit like blueberry and concocts a wild ale akin to a graceful blended French wine.

I've had three beers from Maplewood and really enjoyed all three a lot - a LOT lot. They're a relatively hidden gem in the burgeoning Chicago beer nerd scene. I'll pick up anything I see from them that's relatively fresh.

Back with another new beer on this normally Bloomsday Sunday (1st time it's ever been cancelled).

Had this before dinner. If I'd been smart, it would've been the other way around.

Fresh out of the can, at fridge temperature, this was disappointingly acrid, with only the coffee getting through. I reconciled myself with the disappointment, set it aside for about 10 minutes, and was blown away!

When this warms up, it's fantastic. The adjuncts blend with the basic stout and the barrel aging really well. This would be a great night cap, but I drank it before attempting dinner. This had a definite influence on my ambition. Oh, well. Tomorrow is my Sunday. I'll be epic in the kitchen then. Thanks, @Whyteboar! I'd never heard of this brewery before, but now it's on my radar.

You had me at Rye on Rye.

Toss in the Templeton Rye barrel and maple syrup?

Shut the front door! I've gotta find that. Fortunately, it looks like our beer stores are reopening this week, with a 25% capacity limit.

    That's Frank's kid. Mine (step-son, actually, but I don't think about that qualifier ...) is 30.

Basic refrigerator pickle recipe/ pint jar :
1/2c vinegar (your choice - used all types - all work) , 1/2c water, 1/4tsp sugar (honey, maple syrup, or pear juice(1 tsp) work) , 1/2tsp salt - bring to a boil, then simmer till you're ready.

In each jar /pint : 1/4tsp ea of whole peppercorns, coriander, mustard seed (Roughly crush, for stronger flavor of each - I use my steel coffee cup) , 2 cloves garlic, roughly crushed, 1 hot pepper, 1/4c chopped onions.

Stuff the jar(s) with cucumbers (sliced, diced, whatever - your preference) , & whatever you else is desired/handy/ready - watermelon rind, carrots, sweet pepper, radishes, kohlrabi, herbs etc.

Fill jar(s) with warm liquid. Let sit for an hr or so, then refrigerate. Good for 3 months +/-.

*With the above-mentioned pickles, I used some watermelon rind (25% of volume?) , lime rind from 2? slices.
*Substituted Green Zebra for the water.
    * Included one flower cluster of dill, or bronze fennel, or both.
    * 2 leaves of huacatay (Tagetes minuta - yeah, that's a marigold - a little citrusy + a little dank, but gives me a dill-ish flavor when cooked with eggs:thinking_face:) + 1/3 leaf of papalo (Porophyllum ruderale)[Powerful stuff!] .
Cilantro+culantro, or 1 TBS Goya Recaito should? give a similar effect.
