    Cheers Todd!

    A historic quote for you.

... Assenting to the "self-evident truth" maintained in the American Declaration of Independence "that all men are created equal, and endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights—among which are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," I shall strenuously contend for the immediate enfranchisement of our slave population... I am aware, that many object to the severity of my language; but is there not cause for severity? I will be as harsh as truth, and as uncompromising as justice. On this subject, I do not wish to think, or speak, or write, with moderation. No! no! Tell a man whose house is on fire, to give a moderate alarm; tell him to moderately rescue his wife from the hand of the ravisher; tell the mother to gradually extricate her babe from the fire into which it has fallen;—but urge me not to use moderation in a cause like the present. I am in earnest—I will not equivocate—I will not excuse—I will not retreat a single inch—AND I WILL BE HEARD.

from William Lloyd Garrison, January 1, 1831, Boston.

The entire point of black lives matter is “all lives matter let's not forget that.” If there were a chronic problem White people being gunned down by cops there would be a different slogan to address that issue.

I don’t see what’s complicated about it or hard to understand. I’m a white guy from a poor Southern state and I can figure it out. Then again I’m willing to see it.

With the pervasiveness and normalization of racism in our society, I think this will prove much easier said than done.

Even a policy like “racial slurs gets you banned” easily gets watered down when you start making exceptions for the Washington, DC football team.

And anybody read the advertising copy for Jade IPA?

    I applaud the effort nonetheless.

    +1 to what @ryanov said!

Hopefully this can make it a bit more clear.

    There are 3 possibilities.
    1. Actively try to make racism worse (clearly racist)
    2. Try to be "a good person" and leave race issues alone so they'll go away. (still racist)
    3. Commit to being an anti racist (not racist).

The second one is still racist. It's maintaining a racist status quo. A lot of people are well-intentioned #2s, I'd say most, but can be #3s.

I find the language of "unbalanced forces" in physics to be a helpful way to think about it, with racism being a societal "force."

I want to thank you for this! I have been disappointed by the lack of response from some of my favorite breweries. It was great to see this posted in my craft beer group that I started to HELP the beer community expand it's reach and diversify. I have always came to the site but never created a profile. Today, you have gained a new member and I will be sure to share that this is a safe space for my black (and other POC) beer drinking friends!

Why didn't you care about racism on your site before today? I mean not enough to do anything about it that is.

Welcome! And careful, only thing unsafe about here is an occasional porch bomb from overly generous BA's.

We did and we always have. It's in the TOS. But today is about making it known that we have chosen a side, a human rights side. We believe it is important to say so and clean up our own houses as a starting point. This is a place where all are welcome and hatred won't get in the way of beer. If you don't like that, I am sorry. But for others in the community, they need to know that we value them and welcome them too.

Some people just are not willing to adopt the role of the pupil, and insist on the self-delusion that they are the one in the know, the one who is more level headed, and most importantly the one who should be guiding others. You can imagine them visiting Dachau or the Holocaust Museum and telling other visitors that the **** guards had it pretty rough, too. Worked long hours, had to do a lot of extra duty, etc. And then they’d be mystified why anyone would think they were an asshole. To help them cope with it all they’d arrive at the conclusion that the other people were too touchy/easily offended etc. They just lacked the informed historical perspective of a truly cosmopolitan person like them.

The opposite of the KKK and Facist groups? Well Antifa pops to mind. These groups don’t care much for human rights, quite the opposite, again my opinion only. Of course they’re damaging that’s their intent, to damage and destroy.

    I agree 100% that all lives are precious, have value and have meaning.Black Lives Matter awareness does nothing to undermine that whatsoever and kudos to Todd for acknowledging inclusion and diversity. I saw something beer related on this site that underscores why it's still necessary to raise awareness that Black Lives Matter;

Antifa is not an organization. It has no leadership, it has no body count. It's literally people who show up where ****s and agitators show up and they fight back when provoked. Agree to disagree about whatever their tactics are or who throws the first punch. But it's literally not an organized group.

Thank you for putting your stand right out there-far too many on the Internet plead "free expression/!st Amendment" as an excuse for condoning bias of ANY kind. There is no place for it on a welcoming site for socialization such as Beer Advocate. Pity there isn't something even more that you, and we readers, can do to the SOBs.
