The draft pour I had at the brewery was crystal clear, had a healthy bright white head and had mild carbonation throughout the pour. I scored it a good Pilsner (3.75, 3.25, 3.5, 3.5, 3.5). I prefer draft when possible.

I've had Metropolitan off site before my visits the first two Fridays of July, and while I enjoyed their beers, my favorite pours were their coffee blended Woke as Helles and Jitterator Coffee Dopplebock. I wish they canned or growler poured these offerings, but they were likely small batches. I will seek their coffee draft pours and return when headed to my Chicago Beer Ground Zero (Revolution Brewery, Beer Temple, DMen, Kumas Corner, and now Metropolitan, all within easy walking distance).

Between the picture and the beer, I miss New England so much.

Michael, as a major Kriek fan, I found the Duchesse Cherry disappointing compared to the base beer - but the Chocolate Cherry variant, on the other hand, was delectable! Highly recommended.

You’re super lucky to have all of those places within walking distance. I’d be out of money at this point. I’ve gotta drive quite some time to get to those gems, but it’s always worth it. I’ve been at Metropolitan twice now though and I’d happily make the drive again. I’ve tried the Jitterator there and it’s outstanding. They’ve recently started canning a few of their beers, so I hope it expands as time goes on.

Aww damn. I’ll have to start shopping those now. I wonder if maybe the local shops just didn’t get new orders for a while because of low sales. I literally just started seeing those last year here, so assumed they were on hiatus and brought back. WWS doesn’t sell well either here. Most people are Labatts Blue fans, so the thought of a single $11 bottle is considered a heinous sin or pure folly of the insane! Thanks for clarifying!

Nice write up! I have been eyeballing that bottle in my "cellar" for a spell. Pondering it...

Thats weird that it was so different draft v. bottle. I've got a couple bottles left, so we'll see if there is any variation in those last few.

I don't think my Beer Purchasing habits have changed other than not going out much, but probably more than some. Local selection could be better. I have in fact gone out of state 3 times just to expand my beer options.

New Province Orange Creamsicle Sour is my first NBS beer. 3.69 overall with a 6.5% ABV

Pours effervescent & golden with fast falling cream colored head. No head retention or lacing

    S: Sour citrus

T: Follows the nose. a little vanilla sweetness & tartness as well. Saltyness & tartness mix with orange as this warms. Finishes with sweet orange and saltyness

    MF: Medium body, delicate carbonation

Easy to drink a decent stab at the style

Good to see you again, Jeff, even if my Disney trip has been indefinitely postponed.

Good review, too. Sounds tasty, in a throwback kind of way. Cheers, brother!

I hear you; my partner decided not to paint outside when the temperature read: "94 degrees; feels like 107." That was more than enough to keep her indoors.

At first I was mildly upset that there was a Schlenkerla Rauchbier with which I was completely unfamiliar. Then I saw it was 1.2% ABV. Then I read your review.

I'll go back to the smoked Doppelbock and Ürbock, I think.

Such a nice beer! We could regularly get Double Bag (and Limbo) on tap in CT - to the point that a "double bag" became common parlance in our Cribbage games (there's no equivalent for a Triple Bag, sadly). Glad you enjoyed it!

Evening all - finally sitting down after a busy day and hoping to get to a couple new beers this evening. I was just thinking about this remark from @cjgiant:
Lately Ive been buying far more beer than I ever have directly from local breweries. For me, its all about supporting them directly during this time. But it hasn't stopped me from being able to get new beers. My next beer is no exception.

Black is Beautiful from Kinslahger Brewing. This is a "tropical stout" from a brewery that specializes (pretty much exclusively) in lagers.
Pours a dark, brilliantly shiny black color. Two-finger off-white head dissipates down to just a thin layer of sudsy foam that lingers on top of the beer. Aroma is reminiscent of a baltic porter - has those notes of lager yeast, with notes of dark bread, some stone fruits, a bit of tobacco ash and chocolate.

Taste follows the nose with notes of dark bread, tobacco ash, some light fruity notes along with a prominent citrusy and piney hop flavor that starts towards the back end and continues into the finish. It reminds me of an old school American stout that really showcases the hops. Feel is medium bodied, really smooth and pretty dry throughout. Very mild, gentle carbonation.

Overall a really nice beer from Kinslahger.

Another Local, Hawk Moth brewing's ( Rogers AR ) Azacca Obscurity NE IPA, 8.1% ABV from the crowler. 3.98 overall

Pours an effervescent gold with a pinky of pearl colored head. Better than average head retention & lacing

    S: Citrus, strawberries and peach.

T: follows the nose, dryness, papaya as well up front, green melon as well. A little pineapple as this warms, plus dryness & green melon. Finishes dry with green melon & strawberry

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, nice balance

A good take on the style. One of this brewery's better conventional beers

I've had some Low/NO Alcohol beers that don't make gag, but none of them make me think, yes this is it. Give me a Mineral water or a Radler.

    Hello Late Night NBS
Still trying to get my rhythm in this new normal. But even as I feel like I am, I need to start adjusting to starting the school year in a "distance learning" format. It is not the same, for sure. I will miss the little intricacies of in class teaching and learning. I will definitely miss the laughter. Hopefully, this will transition to something that feels more traditional in late fall.

As for beer, I am enjoying Social Butterfly: Apricot a Fruited Wheat Beer. Problem is, I don't know how to enter it into the data base: a Sour Berliner Weisse?

Anyway,it's mildly hazy. Fluffy white foam rises and dissipates quickly. Smell begins with a slight sulfur note, mild vinegar, and finally apricot. Pulpy, apricot. Feel is lite and has a "minerally" texture to it.
