Three Floyds Alpha King if you can get it. Arrogant Bastard. Maybe Troegs Hopback too, I haven't had it in a while but I recall some pine on the backend. And if you can get Yards check out Poor Richard's Spruce Ale.

For the record this is probably my least favorite style, as I'm not a huge fan of the OS hops and crystal/caramel malts and that creates an odd clash for my palate. But many people like them and it was very popular.

Not that it is always easy to find out, but I’d look for IPAs hopped with Chinook, Centennial and Cascade. I tend to get the strongest piney flavours from IPAs and pale ales hopped with some mix of those.

As others have noted, it is harder to find this type of IPA today. Go back just five years and they were ubiquitous.

I mentioned Pliny, but do you get Maine Beer Co. distributed in MD? If so, Lunch would be another excellent choice.

Sixpoint Brewery, Resin. Big ABV at 9.1 but I get lots of pine in this one. Should be readily available if you’re east coast.

Yes it is, they believe it or not, survive on their pilsner and a generic lager that they make. Both of those beers are pretty much legit. It bugged the shit out of me when I first went there and determined there is little to no diff between the IPA and the APA. But now when I go, usually at christmas, I am amazed that those 2 beers are pretty much lower ABV clones of Celebration. And my palate has loosened up over the past 2 years and I honestly don't mind a good bitter pine bomb every now and then. My son recently moved out and had a 6 pack of English IPA from Turks and Caicos that my daughter brought him back, it has like 1.5 years on it and I have been drinking it. Found it held up pretty good, malty, crystal & pine. Somewhat a low abv barley wine

Now that I am thinking about it would probably throw DFH 60 Minute and 90 Minute into the mix, and probably more so the 90. I don't recall pine being the only dominant flavor but it's in the mix.

I can believe it. A couple of years ago I was at the Sly Fox Brewpub (Sly Fox opened in 1995) and a new guy was bartending (I know all of the 'regular' bartenders). I said "Hi" and introduced myself. It turns out he was a sales guy who was filling in for a bartender that called in sick. I asked him what was the top selling beer for Sly Fox (expecting it would be one of their hoppy beers) and he responded: "Believe it or not but our Helles is our top selling beer." I did not expect to hear this. The Sly Fox Helles is indeed good but for my palate I prefer their German Pilsner (which I suspect sells well for them to). I personally think it is a 'good thing' that there are craft beer drinkers that enjoy drinking beers like Helles & Pilsner.

    Cheers!

I heartily agree with your noting Resin. It comes to mind with I think/want/crave a piney, dank beer. Fatheads Benjamin Danklin IPA is another choice for me.

Agree with all the recommendations for EVO Lot No. 3. I remember it from my days living in Salisbury and in Southern MD, I still seek it out when I'm up there.

Although a few months off, I've usually gotten a piney note out of Sierra Nevada's Celebration Fresh Hop IPA.

Other recommendations (not sure of their availability in MD):
Wanderlush IPA by Highland in Asheville, NC
Mountain Candy IPA by Sycamore in Charlotte, NC
Waves IPA by Almanac in Alameda, CA (drinking right now as a matter of fact)
    Spruce IPA by Alaskan Brewing

Chinook, Columbus, and Simcoe hops are known to give a pine flavor, so if a label says which hops are in it, look for those.

    Agree with this 100%.

And def. pick up Celebration. It was either 2 years ago or this past year that it was phenomenal IMO. I can’t remember, but it is always great regardless and you will get that piney goodness you’re looking for.
