So I'm totally new to trading but hoping to get some guidance. I went to Dark Lord last year so I have some stuff from that and I got some stuff from the 2020 sale this year. I'd like to trade some of it to expand my collection and taste other good things out there.

So, here is what I have, or at least a partial list I can recall off the too if my head. Based on this what would be some "fair" trades as I just don't know other options yet.

    2019 FVM
    2018 Marshmallow Handjee
    2016 Legio Germina
    2014 DL
    2017 DL
    2019 DL

As foe what I might want I really don't know but I am not a big fan of coffee forward stout at all.
    Thanks for any guidance.

    Phil

You should check this thread out. You can post specific beers you have vs. beers you want and get other BA's opinions on the fairness or likeliness to close.

Your beers have great value and you should get interest.

Seconding using the trade value thread with the caveat of not saying "what can I get for x, y, or z?" Throw a possible trade out there like, "would FVM trade 1 to 1 with KBBS" or a beer you are interested in. Your beers are pretty desirable so you can go for rarity or quantity. Good luck.

Thanks for that link I'll check it out.

Part of the problem is I don't know what other rare beers are out there to be honest. I'm still so new to trading that I don't know where to start. With this I was more looking for things like KBBS to get me into the ballpark type of thing. Not so much that KBBS would be 1:1 for FVM, I can research the other beers on my own once I know what to look for, if that make sense.

We can't recommend what rare beers you should search for, especially since taste is subjective. Honest It's really difficult to start trading, when you don't know what you want.
    .
You will likely make dumb trades (or get ripped off) , if you rashly jump in there. Unfortunately you would need to put alot of effort and time to know what you are doing. I know that doesn't help.

Try searching the ISO;FT forum for the beers you have. You can see what others have offered or asked for.
As an example, this is a search of the word Handjee in the Limited trade thread:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/search/119052478/?q=Handjee&o=date&c[node]=87

You can also look in the Completed Trades Thread. Here is the 18 Handjee thread:

No, but it's truthful and accurate.

IMHO @Philwojo, you're putting the cart before the horse at this point. Spend some time learning about other beers and styles you like, and then maybe post an offer over in the trade forums. Yes, that's going to take some time, but there is a wealth of information in the trading forums, as well as the beer review data base. As others have pointed out, you have some very valuable and desirable beers, so you should be able to obtain a variety of top rated beers in just about every beer style. Spend the time and effort necessary to determine what's out there of commensurate value, and then decide what you might be interested in trying.

    Good luck.

Trading beer can be fun or it can be stressful. You can try to acquire ‘whalez’ for yours, have one time interactions and maximize the value of what you have to offer. The least fun I ever had was negotiating what came down to a few dollars in a trade that involved $ value on both sides of over $100 in bottles. The most fun I’ve had was finding like minded individuals that are generous and trying to outdo them by sending more than I’ve received. Took a long time to realize this was an option and would have cut to the chase earlier had I realized it.

Another great idea for the beers you’ve collected would be to find like minded individuals around you and make connections to form a beer group. I searched nearby checkins on Untappd and messaged a few people and now we have a solid squad that gets together a couple times a month. Some head out of town for work and grab gems on their travels, some drive hours for release like DL, and I trade with the fore mentioned group of virtual beer friends to bring gems to share. Maybe you’ll never get another Handjee, maybe you will, but if you brought it to a share with friends they remember stuff like that, and as personal experience goes they would reciprocate the favor and try to outdo you. It’s been more fun for me to see friends enjoy the spoils of my trading first hand, and have the ones I did trade with excited to see what I sent them.

Just my two cents for a new trader, cheers.

Rarity and whats good is subjective. Furthermore some years of sought after beers vary dramatically depending on the year/vintage keep that it mind. Another factor especially going into the worst months of summer is heat damage trading. Bad heat can easily take a top tier beer into shelf beer territory if shipped in the worst of summer. The Handjee is definitely your most sought after beer on the list. Regular DL won't got very far.

Just jump in and do it. It does take time to get a good understanding. @Yabo said it perfectly. What I did was lurk to see what was popular at the time. I went after beer that was maybe not the flavor of the moment, but beers that were considered classics. Your DL Variants could get you one nice flavor of the moment, but it may get you 6 great beers that are well known and revered, but just not highly chased these days.

I can remember trading Maman and BAA for 6:1 or even more for beers like:
    Black Tuesday
    Dark Lord
    No Rules
    BA Speedway
    Hunahpu
    Morning Wood
    Parabala
    Stickee Monkee
    Darkness
    BA Jackie O's
    Bottle Logic

    I can keep going.......

If you want to try variety that's what I'd do. Just say you like a combo of xyz and offer a nice ISO list. Someone will gladly offer you a half case of great beer for a shot at a Handjee. It's a win-win. You get a bunch of classic beer that's probably 3x the retail amount for what you paid and whalezzbro is scoring a nice bottle for $50 under secondary lol.
