I swung by Idle Hands this week: the tap room got a face lift with a brand new mural, new lights, a pergola at the entrance, and a shuffle board. It looks great, unfortunately I didn't have time to sit around and enjoy it.

I grabbed some Six Seam and Kill Your Idles - Tropical. The Six Seam is tasting really great. Highly recommended. I wish it wasn't a twice a year release... it would definitely be in my permanent rotation. (I haven't cracked the KYI, yet).

The table shuffleboard industry are the real winners off the taproom explosion. Sounds like an already great spot has been improved. Looking forward to Bit Bar opening a second location in Malden Center.

I might swing by tomorrow. Pretty decent tap list right now.

    Six Seam
    Galaxy Four Sean
    A schwartzbier
    A Scotch ale

Shit, and as a bonus Hugh O’Neill’s has these on tap:

    Equilibrium’s Dream Lab
3F Armon and Gaston, Oude Gueuze, Oude Kriek, and Beersel Blonde

And a litany of solid stouts

We are super excited about our tap room makeover. The mural is something that we have been talking about internally for a couple years now and it has finally seen the light of day. It was painted by a local artist, Alison Bamcat. Or I guess use to be local artist, she now lives in LA. All in all we are quite happy with how the refresh came out. There are still a few minor things that need to be added but the major pieces are all there. I encourage everyone to come check us out if you haven't been to our tap room in awhile.

Since I know this is a style people gripe about being rare these days, thought I'd note that IH has a Maibock on offer right now: Bluma @ 7% ABV. I haven't had a Maibock in quite a while so, without anything at the tip of my brain to compare it to, I'll just say that this one is delicious.

Their to-go set up was super easy too.

Agreed, it’s really good. Highly recommended. Picked up that and some Galaxy Four Seam.

Last year the Bluma on cask was phenomenal at their Maifest...

Yup saw that. Really excited. There's so much Pilsner out there now, I love it.

They also released a new IPA called "Short Season" with Galaxy and Sabro if that's your thing.

Galaxy Sabro sounds like a nice combo. Fingers crossed it's not the peanut skins Galaxy crop :weary:

Psyched for this. Edgeworth ("American Pilsner" - basically a hoppy lager) seems to have been around a lot lately and while it's a good beer in its own way, it keeps reminding that one of their authentic takes would taste awfully good right about now. I was pining a bit for Klara specifically, but this will most certainly work.

Has anyone tried their take on an AAL, "Essential Premium Lager"? I thought it was very good for what it was but personally I never find myself drinking a Kolsch or a Pilsner and thinking "you know what would make this better? Less flavor."

I grabbed a 4pk of the EPL a few weeks back, amongst other cans.
It was perfectly cromulent, and I enjoyed drinking it while cutting the grass on a hot day.
But I don't know if I would ever grab it first out of the fridge over some other choices.

Hoping I have time to get some today ... Gretel was drinking great as well.

Yup. It was fine to drink, but I prefer my lagers a bit more embiggoned.

    Agreed with your assessment.

I like having this style every now and then, but it’s not my go-to. I’d rather just have a Helles, Kolsch, or Pils if I’m going the pale lager route (yeah yeah, Kolsch I know).

Just realized, has Idle Hands ever brewed a Kolsch?

For the record, Gretel is basically exactly what I like in a German pilsner - crackery, sharp hops, nice carb, very crisp and on the lighter side of medium bodied. This is what I imagine Rothaus tastes like when it's a week old.

Just came in from gardening and even had me a child-lawnmower-sip experience!

Got Gretel and Heide this weekend and both are really great. I hope these get released consistently throughout the year. No reason they shouldn't be in my fridge at any given time.

Does anyone know what hops are in Four Seam besides Citra?

I want to say it's just Citra unless it's Galaxy Four Seam obviously.
