[IMG] This is one of if not the best weekly threads. We beer nerds get the opportunity to find one or several beers we have never had and give the community your thought on them. Look, Smell, Taste, Mouthfeel, and your overall opinion of that beer.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass canned on 9/24/2020. Pours a hazy yellow orange with a 2 finger sticky white head that leaves thin streaks of lace as it slowly settles into a thin layer of bubbles. 4.25

Smell is peach, mango, passionfruit, hints of garlic, pineapple, and apricot. 4.25

Taste follows mango, passionfruit, garlic, pineapple, and apricot. 4.25

Mouthfeel is medium, soft gentle carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 6.5% ABV it drinks a tad bigger. 4.25

Overall these guys never flop, they seem to always brew in the 6-6.5% area and are always consistent and tasty. I really love having them on the shelves in NH the last 4 months. Good beer at a nice price. Cheers all.

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Snulip glass canned on 9/29/2020. Pours a very dark brown with a finger light brown head that leaves tiny dots and thin streaks of lace as it settles, with solid retention. 4.25

Smell is simple but nice, peanut butter, chocolate, and some hints of vanilla and toffee. 4

Taste follows a little bolder, but still one dimensional in a great way. Peanut butter, chocolate, toffee, and vanilla. 4.5

Mouthfeel is probably medium, maybe a tad dry, gentle carbonation a tad creamy, and at 6.7% it drinks a tad bigger, but really approachable. 4

Overall a very tasty peanut butter chocolate stout, that I wish had a little more body, but still a really tasty treat. 4.25

Good day BAS! Thanks @SawDog505 for starting this week's thread! Cool and dewy this morning so I thought I'd start off with a beer for breakfast that's so new I had to add it to the database:

The Boobrie from Amager. $ 15.49 (Including shipping)/11.2 oz bottle ($1.383/oz). From Craftshack, San Diego, CA. Received 9/21/20. Reviewed 10/10/20.
Printed on label “Bedst for 02/2024”. Stored at home at 42 degrees and served at 55 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 60 degrees.
    Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Amber brown (SRM 18), clear.
Body – Brown (SRM 20), murky and opaque. When held to direct light, precipitate is noted (Unfiltered and unpasteurized).
Head – Tiny (Maximum five mm, aggressive center pour), buff, initially fizzy, short retention, diminishing to a one to two mm crown and no cap.
Lacing – None – not unexpected at 12% ABV.
Aroma – 4.25 – Initially strong roasted malt and chocolate. No hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 4.5 - Begins strong, harsh, and slightly bitter with alcohol, roasted malt, and chocolate predominating. As it warms to 60 degrees, it mellows and develops a sweetness. No hops, no yeast. Alcohol (12% ABV, as marked on container) aroma becomes dominant on the aftertaste. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, creamy, aggressive carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 4 Although this is a bit rough now, after it ages a year or two it should be at least 4.5 across the board.
Rating 4.18, rDev 0% (First review)

    A Regional Brewery’s Oktoberfest

Firstly I must provide a ‘Shout Out’ to @BruChef for his reply to one of my posts with this scouting report on this year’s Genesee Oktoberfest beer:

“Which is also solid. Especially this year as the recipe was tweaked and geared more towards a festbier/helles hybrid.”

I found this to be quite intriguing that Genesee has produced a non-Amber Oktoberfest for 2020. Plus I am a fan of the other seasonal beers that Genesee produce, Bock and Schwarzbier, which I have discussed in past NBS threads.

The other positive of these Genesee seasonals is that they are well brewed and available at very economical pricing (less than 10 bucks a 12-pack).

This is how Genesee discusses this year’s Oktoberfest beer on their website:

    “Genesee Oktoberfest

When we think of a beer brewed for celebration, we think Oktoberfest. Genesee Oktoberfest is a recipe inspired by centuries of brewing and our proud German heritage. Our Oktoberfest is a deep-golden lager, big on malt flavor and complimented by subtle herbal notes of noble hops. We hope this beer gives you good reason to raise a stein and celebrate. Prost!

    Here for a limited time!”

They also provide an entertaining video with lots of Ja’s in there:

Well, at this point in time I am thirsty: Let’s Drink!

Served in my Sly Fox Bock Fest Willi Becher glass:

    Appearance

Medium golden colored with a BIG firm white head. This beer has very good head retention.

    Aroma

The aroma is mostly a nice light breadiness.

    Taste:

The flavor follows the nose with a pleasant light breadiness. There is a low/medium bitterness.

    Mouthfeel

    A medium body and a dry-ish finish.

    Overall

I enjoyed drinking this beer. It has a very pleasant flavor profile and it has the quality that the Germans describe as süffig (drinkable).

As has been mentioned above this beer in appearance and flavor profile is more akin to the Pale Oktoberfest beers as served at the Oktoberfest Celebration in Munich. It is not an Amber Oktoberfest beer.

Now, this is by no means a bold or ‘wow’ type beer but it is very well brewed and a joy to drink. At less than 10 bucks a 12-pack this beer wins the ‘bang for the buck’ award of this year’s Oktoberfest season. As the characters in the video say: Ja!

    From a 12oz can:

    Appearance: Hazy gold, huge head.

    Smell: Citrusy, oranges.

Taste: Mild sweetness, oranges, citrusy, moderate bitterness throughout. Solid IPA.

Overall: A new Surly IPA that isn't $17/4 pack, more like $11 for a 6 pack. Pretty good IPA, nice citrus/orange hop flavor. Nothing outstanding, but a good, quality beer.

    Hey what's going on!?

Well I am pysched for this weekend, although it looks like the nice weather has left me! Still there is much time to rejoice.

Time for some more new beers for sure! What's new for our hero today?

Aslin Brewing - De Gens German style pilsner

Poured from the can into a Libbey style pilsner glass.

Real nice appearance. Frothy and rich rocky sized head with a big tall reach of three plus fingers. Lots of clingy lace and staying power too. Body color is a real beaming brass lemon yellow, with fine linear streams of carbonation. It is though slightly hazy.

Clean sensing aroma with a wonderful hop quality. Juicy sensing with a nice light herbal and perfume sweetness. Has a very nice fruit component that's mild and adds quite a distinct character without going overboard or being a juice bomb.

Real delicious palate. Good mouthfeel, but sticks to basic lager like body. Mid palate is rich in a leafy juice up tones of grass and herbs, with maybe a bit of melon like quality. Excellent finishing bitterness, and a soft astringent like flavor and quality on the finish.

Real solid and unique tasting pils.

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25 | 4.23/5

    Cheers

Another beautiful day in the high desert. The dogs have been walked and I'm getting ready to watch some football.
I've been trying to sample Oktoberfests from New Mexico breweries. This week I'm drinking the version from Red Door Brewing in Albuquerque. It wasn't too bad.
A pretty dark amber color. Small beige head with a bit of lace.
Not much aroma. Faint caramel, floral hops.
More in the taste. Caramel, late hops.
A bit on the thin side.

Good morning New Beer Weekenders! Today is special: it kicks off the official share weekend for NBS BIF #12: Estonian Ticks and Rocket Balls. :grinning: :grinning: :grinning:

The official share date is tomorrow, and I have two mystery beers, at a minimum, to explore. I've got plenty in the fridge to choose from today. I figure I should start with some coffee.

Transient Artisan Ales Buckley Select #1
Imperial stout with vanilla, Tugboat coffee, and Michigan maple syrup, aged in Weller whiskey barrels (18 months)
    14.5% ABV

Yes, it's another big boy from Transient and, you guessed it, courtesy of @ovaltine .

As with their other barrel aged offerings, you can tell the time and care in the aging process and barrel selection; the effect on the nose is significant. This really reminds me of Can I Borrow A Filling (4.76 / +6.0%), which was aged in multiple barrels (including EC 26 yr). In this case, 18 months in Weller whiskey barrels has had a phenomenal effect on the resulting beer.

Despite Transient frequently highlighting Tugboat Coffee, coffee isn't the prominent note here. It's quite sweet, but not like a pastry or dessert stout; rather, it fills the niche of a nice post-dinner port wine, bold, boozy, and rich.

As soon as the initial hit of sweetness from the maple syrup fades, the whiskey is rushing in to fill the gap, and is the prominent feature from the middle through the finish. Around the back third, the coffee becomes more noticeable, leaving a roasty bitterness on the finish accented by lingering creamy vanilla.

This is just phenomenal. I feel selfish drinking this while my partner is out and about (don't worry; there's more awesome beer to share when she gets back  ). Selfish, but satisfied.

I'm running out of adjectives for this beer (just kidding; I never run out of words, as you may have noticed). I thought Buckley Select #2 was amazing; this is even better. I'm second-guessing anything below a 5.0, because - other than appearance - I'm really not sure this could get any better.

Thanks, Mike, for another amazing brew. More to follow, I'm sure.

Pours a saturated golden color with a smaller, soon vanishing smaller head.

Smells of cooked peas, dried straw and bready malts.

Has a vivid, thirst quenching carbonation among a well balanced, light body.

Tastes of white bread dough, sweeter caramel and matured, dry hops. Turns a tad metallic during mid palate with a whiff of bakers chocolate, sweet straw and more caramel. Develops a late, fitting rusticness with mellow, resinous hops and maintaining caramel.

Well made, subtle Export with a nice rustic character to it.

Good morning NBW! I'll be posting a bunch of fresh hops and probably a couple oktoberfest beers this weekend. This is a dangerously delicious time of year.

Today's new beer is Old School House's West Coast Fresh Hop IPA.

16oz can served in a big snifter. There is a stamp on the bottom of it, but I cannot read it. Bought it yesterday at Bottleworks.

Pours a clear yellow-amber with a small to medium head and nice, fine, slow carbonation. Smell is lemon and floral hop aroma, not particularly aromatic.

Taste is lemon, pine, a little floral.

Mouthfeel is a little watery and thin, but nicely effervescent. Overall, pretty nice beer.

I changed my mind over a stout, not feeing stoutly, so I found a hoppy beer that new to me. So a Grimm Cloudbursting #7.

All NZ hops 8% abv. Nice pour great head, love the nose in this. Lots of floaties too, I like floaties. Hazy, but not OJ fruity. It’s hazy but I’m thinking more like a traditional DIPA. Really a well done beer.

The hops here are really kicking. Grimm, Bearded Iris, Heist, Resident Culture.

Many thanks @SawDog505 for setting the stage!

Unfortunately still have some work to do before finishing domestic stuff this weekend. But found this gem (which I'd planned to hunt down tomorrow based on beta from @JayORear ) on a quick run to the grocery store, and had to do a quick 'QC check'.

My first contribution to NBW12 comes from Moonraker Brewing Co, a Citra wet hop edition of their Five Oh Five APA, 6.0%. (@draheim, their terminology not mine ) Beer is both new to me and BA.

Can dated 10/06/20 Hop Mafia, poured into an imperial tulip.

L: Bright golden with 1.5 finger of variable-density white head with good retention and left mixed lacing.

S: Potent nose, perceptible several feet from the glass. Loads of tropical fruit, peach, papaya, melon, with faint citrus underneath.

T: Follows the nose but with more citrus prominence. Finishes with moderate bitterness that lingers pleasantly on the palate.

F: Low-medium bodied with medium carbonation, dances slightly on the tongue, slick on the swallow.

O: An excellent fresh (wet) hop APA. Love how the base just sits back and lets the fresh Citra shine. Probably going to go grab another 4pk, delicious.

    BA score = 4.5, rev = 0.0%
