Hey everyone, just looking for any recommendations on stouts that are available in six packs (can or glass), preferably with an ABV of over 7%.

I was craving a Bear Republic Big Bear Black Stout the other day (haven't seen this one around my neck of the woods in a while) and it got me thinking, what other options are out there that are similar to this? I know a lot of breweries have BBA boozy flavor bomb stouts that are usually in bombers or 4 pack 16oz cans; I'm looking for a good six pack of something more modest, yet still has a nice flavor/abv kick to it.

Just a clarification. It sounds like you are looking for a big American Stout or a lower abv Imperial Stout. So kind of all along the intersection of the two styles but without additives or barreling?

One recommendation this is traditional - have you had Guinness Foreign Extra Stout? It is 7.5% and in 6 packs

I haven't seen it yet this year, but Bell's Expedition Stout came in 6ers last year. Think it's in the 10% range. I also enjoyed Deschutes Obsidian Stout but I think that's more in the 6% range.

Yes, that pretty much sums it up... wouldn't necessarily let the BBA factor negate my choice too much. I did enjoy the Lagunitas Willettized coffee stout while it was available.

    Look to Bell's.
Particularly Kalamazoo if you want something on the smaller side, and Expedition if you want something on the bigger side. Any of their more special or esoteric releases are certainly worth a look when available.

Doesn't the FES come in 4 packs in the US these days?

Not that that should prevent the OP from buying it - in fact, buy 2 of them and just figure you're getting 2 extra bottles!

I think Troegs Java Head is around 7.5 abv. Stone Xocoveza should be easy to find too.

Definitely going to keep my eyes peeled for Kalamazoo & Expedition, I've had their Two Hearted IPA more than a few times and loved it. I'm sure their stouts are awesome too.

And while it is not >7% ABV I would suggest you try the Bell's Robust Porter.

    Cheers!

Adding that to my list too, along with Founders Porter (amazed that I have not tried it yet). I'm admittedly limited in my experience with the porter style, though I do recall picking up Smuttynose Robust Porter pretty frequently and enjoyed it very much... haven't had that one in ages.

If you are willing to explore more Porters, here is a couple that I would suggest you add to your list:

    · Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter

    · Deschutes Brewery Black Butte Porter

    Cheers!

Plus one for Kallamazoo stout. it's a great one. Smuttynose robust porter is also very good.

I’ll echo what some other have already said. Bells expedition stout and Brooklyn black chocolate stout.

I second the Narwhal suggestion. Went to the store the other day specifically to pick a pack up.

Also, Storm King from Victory although I haven't seen it in my area the past few years.

Lastly, while it's in a 4 pack another is Old Rasputin.
