That's a very nice review. For many years, Weyerbacher lead the pack on pumpkin- plus barrel aging- and have been way too overlooked and under-appreciated. I sold these beers for many years and Dan was always the very best brewery owner to work with. I kept Imperial Pumpkin into the New Year annually.

[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass canned on 10/14/2020. Pours a hazy orange yellow with a 2 finger sticky white head that leaves thick streaks of lace with excellent retention. 4.75

Smell is herbal marijuana, papaya, tangerine, pineapple, and apricot. 4.5

Taste follows some dank slightly herbal marijuana, papaya, pineapple, tangerine, and apricot really balanced and crazy tasty. 4.5

Mouthfeel is a little bigger than average, soft gentle carbonation, a tad sticky but not dry, and at 7.2% ABV really easy drinking, but it drinks closer to 8%. 4.75

Overall this is a really good NEIPA, hoping to start seeing more from this brewery on the shelves soon. 4.5 Cheers all.

Smell pineapple, garlic, mandarin, and apricot. 4

Taste follows garlic, pineapple, mandarin, and apricot I am not afraid of that combination, but not for all. 4

Mouthfeel is medium, a tad sticky, gentle carbonation, and at 6% ABV it drinks bigger but goes down easy. 4

Overall a really nice and slightly unusual NEIPA. Worth a shot for sure. 4

Good day BAs! Yesterday turned out to be sunny and cold, so no raking wet leaves for me - maybe before today's rain begins...
My New Breakfast Beer, a good gose in which the lime has gone south:

Beer for Tacos from Off Color Brewing. Received 10/8/20 from @nc41 in BIF 12. Reviewed 11/1/20.
Undated 16 oz can. Stored at home at 42 degrees and served at 45 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 55.2 degrees.
    Appearance – 4.
First pour – Pale straw (SRM 2), hazy.
Body – Straw (SRM 3), opaque. When held to direct light, translucent.
Head – Large (Maximum four cm, aggressive center pour), white, medium density, fizzy with short retention, leaving neither head nor cap. Second pour produces an ephemeral partial head.
    Lacing – None, as expected.
Aroma – 4 – Begins with light mineral acidity, more like dilute sulfuric rather than an organic acid like lactic - no malt, no yeast. No lime! Some coriander shows up at the end.
Flavor – 4 - Slightly bitter and acidic with a salty aftertaste. Distinctly no lime but hints of coriander on the aftertaste. No malt, no yeast. No alcohol (4.8 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 4 – Medium, just short of creamy, lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 (After deducting 0.25 point for undated can) Although the lime is AWOL and this tastes nothing like a margarita, it’s still a decent gose – just not what I was expecting.
    Rating 3.95, rDev +1%.

Sorry, it's in a Chimay chalice!

Appearance: Hazy gold, good, thick head.

Smell: Toast, cloves, hint of fruit. Not very aromatic.

Taste: Fruity, boozy, sweet, very carbonated, herbal. Sweetness gets stronger as it warms up. Pretty complex.

Overall: I used to be really big on tripels when I first got into craft beer. I never got around to trying this one until now. It's a pleasant and complex beer, sweet but not too sweet, balanced with some herbal notes.

Good morning BAs! I hope everyone had a fun and frightful Halloween last night. We had 1 trick-or-treater, a teen boy in a skull mask, otherwise no costume. Asked how he liked my clawing, groaning Zombies projected on the window shades, he replied with a resounding, “yea, sure.”
    Maybe next year...

My beer #800 (on this site) and it’s a doosey - Founders’ “KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge”:

Creamy dark tan head; very good cap retention; heavy ring; sheets of lacing; medium heavy legs on swirl. Maple syrup, chocolate fudge nose; strong chocolate aroma lingers through to the last sip. Chocolate fudge up front; maple, bourbon, vanilla and oak middle; some coffee as beer warms; more chocolate than maple on backend, which is fine by me. Velvety smooth feel; medium plus body; moderate minus carbonation; no warmth from 11% abv; some dryness in the finish. Overall, delicious; not sweet; the main flavors of chocolate and maple are perfectly balanced (for me), with nuanced coffee and barrel notes adding to the enjoyment; dangerously easy drinking with no hint of alcohol; awesome!

Jackalope Brewing’s Bear Walker, a brown ale.
-clear mahogany can pour with a thin, tan foam cap that dissipates quickly.
The aroma is light with toasted malt and a hint of sugar.
The flavor is that of a simple brown ale. Some malt sweetness and mellow, woody notes.
The finish is clean. This is pretty good.

Good Sunday morn, New Beer Weekenders. I have just less than a handful of dark offerings that could hit this thread today, fitting of the turn towards darker evenings now that the clocks have been rolled back. None of the beers really quite fit perfectly for a morning brew, so I chose the one I've had the longest (over a week) from the fridge for this opening salvo.

So, a S'mores-equivalent stout is nothing new in the beer world, and for Dogfish Head, the ingredients are fairly pedestrian. Cinnamon is a slightly odd addition - although... do people use cinnamon graham crackers for S'mores? I wouldn't, but okay. Also, the inclusion of smoked malt is intriguing to me. How well is the smoke integrated into Campfire Amplifier? Let's find out...

A nice black void holds up a lightly toasted marshmallow-colored head. The froth atop the liquid fades slowly into a thick, creamy collar with streams of lacing.

Nose is more straightforward stout than S'mores - which could be good or bad depending on how you look at things. The chocolate (cocoa nibs) jump out most to me, with a wisp of marshmallow (more than straight vanilla) on the side. On the truly unfortunate side, for me, is that the smoked malt is missing from the nose.

Hmm... this is actually a pretty dry stout. It's "only" 6.5% - so not in the higher gravity range like many of the pastry stouts I have come across. There's notes of the lactose (light tang), graham cracker (with a slight earthiness), cocoa, and marshmallow, but like the nose, this is seeming to keep to the concept of stout first, flavorings second. Unfortunately again, the taste also seems to stamp out the campfire of smoked malt.

Feel includes a nice dark coffee boldness, a near creamy middle (carbonation is medium), but has a slightly watery ending. There's an ever so light biter astringency in back that I could argue is the influence of the smoked malt, but I'm not sure I'm convincing myself.

So, a coffee-bitter regular dry-ish stout with passing notes of the S'mores ingredients to tease you is my assessment. It's pretty decent, but not if what you are looking for is an in-your-face, S'mores-forward, dessert stout. Mildly surprising - especially after Costumes and Karaoke, which leaned heavily on the additional ingredients.

Some back yard work completed and dogs have been walked. Now I'm drinking my first coffee IPA. Not bad.
A hazy orange color with a small white head. A bit of lace.
Mostly citrus aroma. Coffee present, but subtle.
Taste begins and ends with coffee. A lot of grapefruit.
    Fairly hoppy.

I've had lunch at your restaurant some years ago while visiting the city.

I grew to love those sandwiches from my time in another state. Sadly, they are not available anywhere near me where I live now.

    Good luck.

Morning NBWers (NBSers)! It's Sunday, and I was absent from the thread yesterday (although I did rate four new beers yesterday).

Today's first beer - and this weekend's first official review - is Danzig, a "Baltic Porter" from Devil's Backbone, clocking in at an even 8% ABV.

The brewery describes this as a blend of "a strong English porter and a Germanic black lager," and wow, does it really pull it off. (Jason reviewed it for BA magazine back in 2016, if you want a more experienced take on this beer.)

I was planning on letting this warm to near room temperature, but I don't think that will be necessary, especially now that I know the blend. I let it sit and warm for a bit before diving in, but I've been really, really pleased with it at a chilled (colder than cellar, warmer than refrigerator) temperature.

I don't think Baltic Porter really captures the essence of this beer, although it's close. In my limited experience with that style, I would expect more dark fruity tones, some red grape, and a bit more char - but not as much as with an RIS.

This has very low char and moderately low bitterness. It has a full, creamy body, delightfully smooth at 8% - thicker than the vast majority of German lagers (save, perhaps, Doppelbocks), and thicker than most English porters. Definitely thicker than the Baltic Porter style, which tends to drink a little thinner and cleaner.

The flavor profile is on point. There's a touch of banana from yeast expression, and very light noble hops, but the focus is on cream, light toast, coffee, bitter chocolate, dark fruit, caramel, and toffee.

It's a delight to drink, and goes down exceptionally easily.

I'm absolutely loving this. I think it's a tad underrated. I could go for this if I were in the mood for a very strong dark German lager like Celebrator, but wanted to amp it up just a touch, or if I were in the mood for a straightforward stout/porter, and wanted something creamy and smooth.

I am near certain that beer has won a GABF award for Baltic Porter, and I think it might've gotten more than one medal.

I recall liking it a lot, and used to look forward to it each year. I've slipped on purchases recently without really much of a good excuse. I gave it a 3.84 back in 2015 (does that make me older than Jason, @ovaltine?) - but I rated even lower back then. Of note from that review, I did get a little "red wine-like fruitiness" (specifically in the nose), but also a somewhat smoky roasted malt profile. Might be time for a revisit.

Good Sunday afternoon NBW/NBS and thanks to our host this week. We got our first
splash of snow on friday, all but a warning to us that this season is coming. A group of longtime friends are almost complete with a hike of the New England Trail, we took last night's full moon and clear sky to do a revisit of our Mt Tom range traverse, what a great night.
Todays offering is from our dear friends at Hill Farmstead. A collaboration with Tired Hands, this is a pale ale with great texture, superbly balanced, and worth a visit to see hows details matter.
    Do good

Poured from a 16 oz can dated 10/23/20 into the test glass
A - Hazy straw color, Gently carbonated, that carbonation collects topside forming a lasting loose froth. Lovely on the eyes.
S - Like a quiet walk through a forest of orange, pineapple, pine, and apricot trees in full harvest season. Add a bit of sweet malt and there you have it.
T - Apricot and orange, with again hints of pineapple, green grape skin, pine, The malt is more expressive but still a supporting act. One that adds to the experience.
M - Soft on the palate, but with all that tropical components, the pine and malts keep this from tilting to the sweet side.
A lovely almost evapratory dry finish.
O - A very nuanced and superbly balanced pale ale, Yes it is full hop display, with more depth than most
I can understand why the label includes " think Hophands meets Edward"
