I'm drinking a Mast Landing Gunner's Daughter Milk Stout.
    Drinking this at home.
Poured from a pint can into a pint glass.
Appears very dark brown, almost black with a rocky foamy head that dropped quickly to a thin ring and slight lacing.
Smells malty, lightly smoky, chocolate, cherry with a nice roasted peanut smell.
Taste follows the nose, but nothing overpowering. Many peanut butter stouts are too strong in the peanut butter department for my personal taste, this one is lighter and better than most.
Mouth feel is medium light for the style.
Overall a nice stout with a low ABV that was quite enjoyable.

Last new beer of the weekend. I grabbed a four pack as soon as I spotted it locally.

As far as I know, Fat Head's has never sent this one over to southern Indiana in distribution until this year. Pimp my Sleigh - Belgian style dark ale

12oz BOTTLED ON 11/17/20 (12 days ago!) poured into a snifter at fridge temp 10.5% ABV. The beer pours dense dark brown with persistant khaki colored head. The head recedes to a quarter inch cap. Some spotty lacing. The aroma is mild featuring rich malt, Belgian yeast and candi sugar. The taste is semisweet clovey, malty richness with notes of anise & fig. Dark candi sugar, raisin and malt work toward the front as the beer warms. Minimal bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, very good. This example is very yeast & spice forward. My preference is a malt focus, but I will enjoy seeing how this four pack develops over the winter.

Love this style, now sitting as my 8th most reviewed at 30. I have plenty of Belgian style strong ales stored up for the winter now as well. Cheers all!

    Happy birthday to @FBarber!

Last new beer for me this weekend is Trillium Speed Mettle DIPA.

    Brewery notes:

"First released in 2014 as a growler-only offering out of 369 Congress Street, The original Speed Mettle was born out of an effort to ensure we had enough beer to meet a seemingly impossible to keep up with demand, without cutting corners on quality.

Throughout the previous six years, both past and present members of Team Trillium have worked tirelessly to build the sustainable and efficient brewery we now enjoy. The thorough process and technical improvements realized within this time have benefited not only our team but our beer and you, our guests, as well. With the constraints that Speed Mettle originally emerged from no longer looming over our heads, the 2020 reincarnation is much more a result of our never-ending pursuit of making better beer.

Pouring a beautiful pale and hazy golden orange color, Speed Mettle offers an intense aromatic display of papaya, juicy mango, and candied orange. An extra dose of whirlpool hops brings out a beautiful citrus zest-meets-floral undertone, creating welcomed complexity as the glass warms. Impressively soft, with very mild bitterness and a dry finish, we're thrilled to see Speed Mettle make a return six years after its debut.

    MALT
    American 2-row Barley
    Flaked Wheat
    HOPS
    Citra
    Amarillo
    ABV
    8.0%"

16oz pint can with a date stamp of 11/20/20

This is a beer I've heard of but never tried, until now. Pours a usual opaque orange yellow gold color for them, this beer though seems to have a particularly nice fluffy creamy white foam head with decent retention still sticking around throughout most of the glass, my guess is possibly due to a high(er) percentage of flaked wheat in the malt grist.

Smells a bit doughy and biscuity with tropical stone fruit notes prominent, peach, mango, papaya, pineapple, apricot, orange citrus, grapefruit pith, lemon peel, lime zest, a touch of berry, wildflowers and floral earthy herbal grassy pine notes. Before even looking the beer info up I immediately recognized Citra and another peachy/orange hop, and come to find out Amarillo is in the bill which I haven't seen featured too much from them lately. Seems about right, and no Columbus so not really dank resinous or peppery, just pretty fruity soft and floral smelling right now.

The taste follows the aroma with more intensity, big juicy tropical stone fruit notes, peach, apricot, mango, papaya, pineapple, orange citrus, grapefruit pith, lemon peel, lime zest, some berry, a hint of cantaloupe melon, mild biscuity bready malt, wildflowers, minuscule spice, and floral earthy herbal grassy pine notes. The hops are clearly taking over without becoming too much. There is a light perceivable bitterness in the end to freshen things up and cut through any richness. As this warms, the fruit flavors only intensify and the brew comes together with more completeness. Great showcase of Citra and Amarillo in a juicy hazy beer.

Feels medium-full bodied, rather thick and heavy, creamy with smooth moderate carbonation.

Overall this is another great DIPA from Trillium, getting better as it warms and showcasing the hops well. Super juicy and intense, a bit thick and full bodied though not too tiring. Citra and Amarillo hops are popping. Really liking this one. Cheers everybody and happy New Beer Weekend!

Well hello again, Late Night NBW (East coast and across the Pond).
Well I had an accident in my beer fridge. Thus my hand was forced to finish opening the bottle that I damn near lost. COVID has made me hold on to this longer than I had planned. I really wanted to share it with a few friends, but the geography challenges have been aggravated by this damn bug.

OOFah. Gusher. But the smell leapt from the cascade. Huge frothy white eruption settles, eventually, to a patchy white slick. Peachy gold colored and slightly opaque.
Nose is bright, fruity apricot, lemon blossom, yeasty but not overly funky, and a mild sour note.
Taste is more subdues, less bright. The apricot starts a bit fresh, but as it warms it goes in a more meaty dried apricot direction. Unexpected, but really pleasing. Mildly sour.
mouthfeel is smooth, moderate carbonation (once it settled).
Overall, I'd like to hit a fresh bottle to see if it is more dynamic. This bottle was a few years old.

750 ml bottle poured into an Ourison glass

A- A clearing bright red with a small fast fading pinkish head.

S- Tart, cherries, some band-aids, oak, lemons, some leather, mild funk.

T- Tart, juicy cherries, leather, hay, some lemons, oak, hints of wheat, some funk.

M- Smooth, light to medium body.

O- I like Freedom From The Known better than this. Not a bad take on Ourison but not necessarily an improvement on the base beer.

My new beer this Sunday is Agamemnon from Omnipollo. Poured from fridge temp. Pours a gorgeous black with brown head. The maple is very strong on this one, which is great. Definitely dominates the nose. Roasted malts, chocolate, a bit of coffee, almonds, dates, raisins. Really nice smell. The taste is fantastic. Super smooth. Sweet, but not too much. Maple syrup, honey, dark chocolate, red grapes, prunes, dates, and some vanilla. Very nicely balanced - another winner from Omnipollo. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy, and the alcohol is very secretive. I will definitely seek this out again. Cheers!

So, that sneaky resident of the home of Bing Crosby's hairpiece (Sokaynee Wershingtun), @woemad hit me with a surprise box on my birthday last Monday. From that box, I present a 3-way collab from Whistle Punk, Ya-Ya, and Lumberbeard Black Is Beautiful. Very nice stout, but I didn't get any of the coconut and vanilla the label promised, but plenty of chocolate. Win!

East Sixth Brewing's Chocolate Hazelnut Spread Thicc Boi Pastry Stout, 8.5% ABV; 4.02 overall

Pours an effervescent ebony with a thumb of caramel colored head. Zero head retention & lacing

    S: Cocoa & coffee

T: Dark chocolate, dryness, hazelnut, vanilla & a little coffee up front. Dryness, coffee, vanilla & cocoa as this warms, a little hazel nut on the edges. Finishes dry with a little coffee, milk chocolate & hazelnut

    MF: Fairly chewy, low carbonation

Nice take on the style, a better nose & richer mouthfeel would boost this score-wise. Delivers on flavor

Evening all. One last new beer for the weekend.
Bourbon County Brand Stout Reserve (2017)
    - Aged in 11 year Knob Creek barrels.

Pours a dark, completely opaque black color. Almost no head whatsoever on this one when its poured - seems worryingly under-carbonated upon pouring. Aroma has notes of oak, charred wood, hot bourbon, roasted malts, marshmallow, caramel and chocolate. Even several years aged the barrel on this dominates the nose.

Taste follows the nose with notes of oak, bourbon, dark fruits, a slight cherry note, vanilla, oak, charred malts, and bakers chocolate. The charred malts and baker chocolate produce this bitterness on the finish that is really nice. The bourbon is pretty prominent in this one even several years on. As the beer warms those dark fruits really start to shine through. The flavor profile on this one is outstanding. Feel is a thin to medium bodied. The carbonation is really fizzy, and prickly. I would hazard a guess that age has not been kind to this beer in this department.

Overall its an incredibly tasty beer and a great showcase of the barrels used for this one.
