    Quick beer update...

    Bad News

Due to COVID-19 related delays and some beereaucracy that was out of our control, Burley Oak isn't able to join us. They're just as bummed as we are, but we'll see them again at a future BeerAdvocate event. In the meantime, we wish Bryan and team nothing but success this year!

    Good News
I reached out to Matt Monahan, Co-Founder at Other Half Brewing Co., and team. They immediately stepped up and rallied at the very last minute to can a beer and get it into the box just before Half Time had to start shipping. The beer is out of this world and sounds extremely delicious!

Other Half Brewing Co. (Brooklyn, NY)
Small lACEd in Space; 16oz can; 6.5%; Citra and Galaxy hops are smashed together for the ultimate combo.

It only has 15 ratings so far (hopefully more after you've all tried it!), but it currently stands with a BA Score of 91 "Outstanding." Personally, I haven't had an Other Half beer in well-over a year, so I'm really looking forward to trying this one! I'm also extremely grateful that we were able to get a replacement beer in time!

Thanks in advance for your support and understanding.

Darn, I was looking forward to Burley Oak. Miss them now that I no longer am in Maryland.

Sounds like a worthy substitute. I can't remember, what was the original Burley Oak beer slated to be? Is it an IPA for IPA switch?

It was a fruited sour under 5% ABV.

Given the challenges, I'm just happy there *is* a festival. I look forward to trying Burley Oak in the future (their Jream stuff is pretty sweet), and raise a glass to Other Half for stepping up.

Sucks that we lose out on a JREAM, which is the draw to Burley Oak, for another OH IPA. Less variety in styles lessens the limited extremity a good bit.

Yeah. We're all bummed. It was all very last minute. But if OH didn't step up, there'd be one less beer in the box and that would've really sucked.

JREAM was a big draw to purchasing the box. This is extremely disappointing...

It definitely is a bummer. Their JREAM stuff is always pleasing. Appreciate the substitution, as mentioned 1 different flavor is better than 1 less beer!! Cheers - looking forward to the event !!

As someone semi-regular to OH before COVID, this swap is kind of disappointing. I get that BA/HT wouldn't have done this unless it was necessary though. Still looking forward to the box!

Yeah. Bryan Brushmiller is a friend and long-time supporter of BA and our fests. Having them drop sucked, but it was out of our collective control.

So, not for nothing I was really looking forward in doing this box for pretty much 2 reasons the JREAM collaboration beer with EQ and Mortalis. I’m all for OH but idk it doesn’t seem even. They should of thrown in their crunchee series! That would of been dope. Either way this swap doesn’t hit the same. Burly Oak will be missed!

I understand that some will be disappointed (I know I am), but we only had a couple of days to find a replacement beer. Whether or not it's an "even" replacement is highly debatable, but the only other alternative was literally one less beer in the box.
Easier said than done. Ordering materials, brewing, canning, labeling, registering (federal and state), and shipping beer all takes a lot of time. If something happens last minute, it often makes the situation very difficult or impossible to fix in time.

As for throwing in a different Burley Oak beer at the last minute, on top of everything that I just mentioned, it also assumes that the brewery has around 3,000 unsold cans in inventory and it ignores the COVID-19 related delays and beereaucracy that caused them to drop in the first place.
Burley Oak will indeed be missed, but we're still going to have a fun time!
