DATE: March 19, 2021... OCCASION: still nursing the Extreme Beer Fest brews--this one, a milder one to kick off the weekend and celebrate Bob's birthday in absentia... GLASSWARE: Victory HopDevil nonick... pours a vibrant murky orange amber body that staunchly opposes one's view through it... the head builds like a snow white urinal cake--think that as a compliment--holding its retention as it claws the glass with coral lacing... immediate orange and lactic acids create a Pavlovian response... softer mango and grapefruit also are present... the balance is not apparent, but the aroma is alluring in its singularity... the at 6.5%, a juicy, thick mouthfeel that lasts and lingers, vibrant and coating... not much acidity, which is appreciated... orange cream pervades the experience, with lactose, grapefruit and dripping resin that extends beyond the sip... as simple as its profile is, it is both refreshing and flavorful... a good number two hitter on the EBF order on day one, and just as enjoyable a month later.... at its ABV, slammable but worth sipping... the first Other Half I have had, this is a great introduction to the brewery..

A really great NEIPA. Juicy tropical fruit, creamy mouthfeel, drying finish. My first taste of what other half has to offer and I was not disapointed.

Hazy yellow body, white head and lacing. Huge mango leads the nose, dank hops, melon, grapefruit, and pineapple all part of the aroma bouquet as well. Taste is juicy but with tons of citrus instead: grapefruit, orange and hints of lime, mango and pineapple linger in the back, but this is beautifully injected with dank and piney hops in an artful and complimentary way. Feel is juicy and smooth with the hop injections cascading across the palate in a satisfying way, but end is missing the crescendo. Still a very nice neipa

This one had a bit of a bitter aftertaste, but it was pretty smooth and drinkable. The aroma was okay and it looked nice. It was definitely one of the better IPAs I've had.

Very hazy amber color, similar to grapefruit juice with nice white head. Very sweet aroma: honey & citrus. Bitter & sweet with flavors of grapefruit, pine tar & more citrus. Drinking this immediately after an Hazy-O, I was disappointed that the intensity of the flavors was weak. Good carbonation but felt watery. Overall: very refreshing.

Pours hazy yellow with a medium white head. Aroma is very nice and hop floral. Taste is hoppy bitter but there's good malt sweetness to keep it in balance. Feel is juicy citrus and pleasant. Overall it's a nice hop forward IPA.

Small lACED in Space from Other Half. Received on 20/1/21 for the Extreme Beer Fest – Cyberspace (2021) from Half-Time, Poughkeepsie, NY. $ 109.99 (Including tax and shipping). This is a 16 oz can ($ 0.702/oz). Stored at home at 42 degrees. Reviewed 6/2/21. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Served at 44.5 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 52.3 degrees.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Pale Straw (SRM 2), hazy and opaque.
Body – Straw (SRM 3), opaque. When rear-lite, still opaque.
Head – Average (Maximum 3.5 cm, aggressive center pour), baby powder, high density, average retention, leaving a 13 mm crown fed around the entire circumference by effervescence and a thin complete cap with rocks. Three-dimensional chunks of lacing remain on the glass as the head retracts. Second pour produces a nine mm head.
Lacing – Good. Irregular narrow bands of tiny to small bubbles, connected by short columns and having small examples of both stalactites and stalagmites. See also above.
Aroma – 4 – Begins with juicy pineapple and a hint of dank onion. No yeast, no malt.
Flavor – 4 – Follows the nose – but more like not quite ripe pineapple and the onion is weaker. No malt, no yeast. No alcohol (6.5 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Ends with a touch of dank bitterness with an average hang-time.
Palate – 4.25 – Medium, almost creamy, soft pillowy carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 after deducting 0.25 point for undated can. Overall, a rather good NEIPA. The oniony dankness balances the potential citrus sweetness well.

This can pours a cloudy, yellow-orange and hosts a generous foam cap.
The aroma is orange up-front.
The flavor is quite full. Orange is most prominent with pineapple, Meyer lemon and some of marmalade notes.
This tastes like a double.
The mouthfeel is smooth and full-bodied.
-much appreciated

Beer #2 EBF 2021
Opaque, fairly hazy. Golden orange hued. Fluffy cap. Good retention. scattered clumpy lacing.
Smells of mild onion starts off. Pithy grapefruit, herbal, and a bit bready in the malt.
Flavor begins with grapefruit but then turns toward a mild melange of orange, melon, slightly dank, and mild pine.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly fluffy, and finishes smooth.
Nice.

Pours a completely opaque, hazy, bright orange color. Two finger, sudsy white head settles in on the beer before dissipating leaving behind lots of stick lacing and a thin residual layer of foam. Aroma has notes of orange, tangerine, grape, pineapple - lots of bright fruit with a touch of green leafiness and some light crackers malt notes. The taste has notes of orange, cantaloupe, coconut, and mango with some kind of green notes to this one. Light cracker/pilsner malt backbone. Feel is medium to moderately bodied. Moderately carbonated, but a bit spritzy. Overall a solid, nice NEIPA.

S - Strong juicy pineapple citrus aroma that's a little vinous.

Part of EBF Cyberspace 2021

Here we go with round 2 of EBF. This one was not originally planned/brewed for the festival, but was a replacement for a variant of Burley Oak’s JREAM, which certainly fit the “extreme” description better than this. Still, I’m excited to try my first beer from Other Half, they have a ton of hype

Pours a hazy pale orange with a finger of creamy white head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing

The aroma is tropical but nicely balanced. I’m picking up on notes of pineapple, pithy grapefruit, overripe melon, doughy malt, and a touch of piney hops

The front end brings notes of pithy grapefruit, pine, a touch of lemon, and orange. On the swallow I’m tasting creamy peach, juicy orange, soft doughy malt, and piney hops

A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation for a smooth and easy drinking beer, feels about right for the abv. Finishes mostly dry but coats the mouth a bit

Pretty good first impression from Other Half, but nothing special, just solid

Very hazy pineapple color with a foamy white head, the tropical citrus aromas lead from the can when you pop it open, with strong mango and papaya notes accompanied by tangerine and pineapple.

The taste is really in the tropical fruit pocket, with the tangerine and pineapple leading, and the mango and papaya closing strong. The mouthfeel is a bit brighter than expected for the style, which is yet another reason why I’d always have this beer in my fridge if I had access to it on the regular.

I don't see any date listed on the can.

Appearance: The body is mostly opaque, allowing only light through, and has a beige-orange color. The head is medium-sized, white, and creamy textured with small whipped up ripples that land on the edges of the glass like hollowed out circles. It keeps a medium-low profile head but it has good retention. The head forms nice lacing on the glass as well.

Aroma: Garlic comes through at first, then a bit of celery and a hint of onion. It has a very savory aroma. Cut green beans comes through after a bit as well.

Taste: Up-front there is grass and dandelion. The middle has the same grassy flavors, but slightly more floral, with a bit of clover character. Towards the back of the mouth there is orange pith and this carried into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: It is on the upper edge of light and meets the lower edge of medium-bodied. It has low bitterness and a bit of rasp to it.

Overall: It's a very grassy tasting beer with a more savory-spiced aroma. The sticker on the can states that it is an "INDIA PALE ALE" but it more accurately follows the New England IPA style. As a New England IPA is feels like fairly average attempt at the style although it turned out grassier than most. The highlight of the beer is the appearance, as it is a nice looking beer. I wouldn't likely buy it again or recommend it.

Poured from a can into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a very hazy yellow color with a one finger head of white foam. The head has a decent level of retention, fading over time to leave a good sum of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is heavy of a bready and doughy smell mixed with a rather decent showing of some tangerine and tropical fruit (mango and papaya) sweetness. Along with these smells comes a decent showing of grapefruit and herbal hop as well as a touch of yeast.

Taste – The taste begins with a nice light malt base, with the malt a mix of a doughty and bready flavor. At the same time, there are some of the sweeter tastes that were detected in the nose. The tangerine/orange is the strongest, but there are hints of tropical fruit in there as well. Upfront there is also some grapefruit hop as well as a little bit of an herbal hop flavor. As the taste moves forward however there comes more and more herbal hop as well as some earthiness, both coming at the expense of the grapefruit. These tastes transitions take the taste to its end, where one is left with a rather nice crisp, and slightly danker hop taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the more light and crisp side with a carbonation level that is rather high. For the dank and crisp tastes of the brew the feel is good and makes for a nice sharp sipper.

Overall – A rather tasty and easy drinking brew overall. Crisp and clean with a nice easy drinking nature.

Nice 16 oz. can that appears to be making some sci-fi reference that I don’t get. I’m disappointed in myself.

The orange juice flows freely & the nose is full-on robust, ripe, bursting oranges. Simple but effective.

Small laced in Space doesn’t distinguish itself much from the pack of NE IPAs chasing beer geeks around these days. Orange juice, orange rinds, orange scrub brush, sugar cubes, & a bit of pear breaking up the orange. So sweet I’m not sure I’ll get through all 16 ounces.

Pretty unremarkable, pretty one note, pretty good. Don’t need to have it again.

16 oz. can

Pours a vibrant beautiful looking cloudy opaque yellow-orange gold color with a generous dense thick fluffy white foam head. Smells interesting, moderate intensity, some melony notes almost like watermelon, papaya, pink grapefruit, subtle dark berry, lemon, orange citrus, tropical pineapple, mango, starfruit, some dank resinous earthy floral notes, mild caramelized biscuity malts, and mild juicy fruit gum. Tastes pretty soft, fruity, floral, some biscuity toasty wheaty malts, moderate hop intensity, some juicy tropical fruit notes, citrus peels, melon, notes like papaya, pink grapefruit, lemon pith, orange rind, subtle dark berry, mango skin, tropical pineapple, lychee, starfruit, floral earthy resinous dankness, hint of juicy fruit gum, stops short of bitter and even pine for me, nice flavor profile, soft, fruity, not too intense or in your face, easy drinking. Feels medium bodied, soft, fluffy, smooth, creamy with moderate low carbonation. Overall a nice Citra and Galaxy IPA.
