[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass canned on 2/3/2021. Pours a very attractive yellow with a two finger sticky white head that leaves thick streaks of foam with amazing retention. 4.75

Aroma ripe melon, papaya, tangerine, pineapple, passionfruit, and apricot. 4.5

Taste follows cantaloupe, papaya, passionfruit, pineapple, and apricot. Really juicy with a little bitterness in the finish. 4.5

Mouthfeel is a little bigger than medium, not sticky or dry, soft creamy carbonation, and at 7.2% drinks a little bigger in flavor, but really easy drinking. 4.5

Overall this is really an excellent NEIPA from Spyglass Brewing. 4.5

Thank you @2beerdogs for the kind words, I too learn a lot and are exposed to new great beers every weekend, one of the reasons I look forward to it.

@champ103 - Nice to see you with a book, beer and burger once again!

Second beer today, this one a local beer from one of my favorite local breweries.

    Dovetail Rauchbier

    Can Notes:
16 oz canned 11/19/20. 5.6% ABV. Smokehouse, robust, balanced.

    Appearance:
Heavy generous foamy off-white tan head buildup, required multiple pours to fill the 0.5 liter Dovetail Willi Glass. Dark copper brown pour, nice creamy foam lingers for quite awhile, leaving generous lacing in its wake and creamy clumps. Looks great. 4.5

    Aroma:
Smoke rich, enticing and bold in strength. Smells like a nice smoked sausage, a smoky campfire, spicy. Can flavor notes QFT. 4.5

    Taste:
Taste consistent with aroma, nice smoked malt taste leads resulting in a pleasant smoked sausage taste. Balanced with just a slight dryness. Roasted malt, pine, walnuts, chestnuts. Wonderful blend, works great. 4.75

    Mouthfeel:
Light to medium slightly creamy body, persistent faint carbonation complements, slightly dry and creamy, smooth easy drinking, smoky aftertaste. 4.25

    Overall:
I'm not very familiar with this style, but I don't see how much this beer could improve compared to the style characteristics. This is an excellent smokey offering, very pleasant aroma and taste, full body, various wonderful flavors work well together, nice easy drinking. 4.5

May possibly do a similar paring tomorrow (Milk Stout early, darker Dovetail lager later). @champ103 's True Anomaly Triple and @Roy_Hobbs ' Fox Farms Altbier sound like two beers I hope to come across down the road. Looking forward to more great reviews and see you tomorrow!

Greetings fellow NBSers! A mostly cloudy day, with some sunbreaks, here in the Fourth Corner, and when one of those sunbreaks hits, it feels warmer than the 50ish degrees it is out.

The sign-up for NBS BIF #13 is live over on the BIF page, y'all should sign-up! As it happens, I'm drinking a brew that came to me, courtesy @Coronaeus and NBS BIF #12, Intermodal Wild Ale from Bellwoods Brewery in Toronto. It's a quite nice blend of 1 & 2 year old ales aged in barrels:

@2beerdogs Thanks for getting us started, Derek!

I've got to play a little catch up, as I have my fourth new beer in my glass right now.

First up, no picture or full review, but it's Untitled Arts' second take on Oat Cream IPA, this time a collaboration with Finback (the first one was with Humble Forager). Really smooth and unbelievably fruity and juicy for a non-fruited IPA. 3.83

Next, a Fox Farm Kölsch courtesy of @Roy_Hobbs : Bower.

This was delightful. A little cloudy for a Kölsch, but absolutely bursting with wonderful and classic aromas. This was a joy, especially on a warm afternoon.

And then, Hubbard's Cave Iced Mocha, a 6% ABV stout with coffee, chocolate, lactose, and vanilla.

Tons of coffee! I was really expecting something much sweeter, but this is a really nice and bitter coffee porter. Lots of chocolate, as well, but again it leans bitter. Really enjoyable, although there is a slightly metallic note that detracted somewhat.

Thanks, it feels good, and lots of other people in my neighborhood agree

I saw some Dovetail last time I was up to see the family in Champaign. I didn't pick any up for some reason, will definitely remedy that the next time I'm up there.

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Nordic pint glass not sure when it was canned. Pours a very attractive pinkish red with a 2 plus finger pink head with solid retention and leaves a few bubbles of lace. 4.25

Aroma is pretty strait forward raspberry, strawberry, and vanilla. 4

Taste follows really all about the raspberry, with hints of strawberry and vanilla, with a little alcohol detected. 4

Mouthfeel is medium, plenty of carbonation, maybe a little dry, and at 8% ABV is goes rather easy. 4

Overall this is what you would expect, nothing earth shattering but a nice big sour from Modestman Brewing. 4 Cheers all.

Aroma of hops and melon, slight floral scent. There is a hint of bread

Taste is pretty astringent up front, hop and malt forward, slight alcohol burn and a dry finish.

Mouthfeel is prickly and slightly sticky, medium carbonation, finishes dry with a nice little lingering bite

Taking a break from the fruity and extra hoppy microbrews to experience more German imports. While flavorful, this one misses the mark. It is far from an "elegant" pilsner as it is rather rustic with rough edges. I was surprised how sweet it is, considering it is a German pilsner. Despite that, it is still quite enjoyable.

Next (probably not last!) new beer of the weekend.

It's amazing to see The Bruery in cans, and "locally" distributed, especially their barrel aged releases.

This one delivers. Thankfully, it's neither as sweet nor as cinnamon-y as the namesake dessert; it's still definitely a beer. I would have preferred more bourbon, but the maple and pecan are really pleasant.

Howdie ho, NBW friends. After the EBF a couple of weeks ago, I decided to give the retail outlet that shipped the boxes (Half Time Beverages out of New York) a whirl on some of their excellent selection of beers.

They didn’t disappoint. This is Benjamin The Younger from Tripping Animals out of Florida, a Citra/Mosaic DIPA. Sign me the fliggity flock UP!!!

Pours a nicely hazy golden orange color with a dense white head that is clingy all the way down the glass. Absolutely gorgeous beer. The nose is dank citrus, especially ripe tangerines and grapefruit and a nice dollop of pineapple and berry.

The taste follows the nose, with the tangerine, pineapple, and berry flavors shining - and then there’s the chalky malt flavor which works exceptionally well.

The mouthfeel has some bite, but is a bit watery, almost like it’s confused whether it’s aimed at WCIPA-ville of NEIPA-ville. Wherever it lands, this is a very tasty DIPA that I’d buy again.

Building on the hefeweizen them of last week another one that was recommended in another thread I think by @Jacobier10

    Ayinger Brauweisse

Pours a hazy straw color with a little orange hue mixed in when held to the light. Head settles to a nice creamy layer of fluff (fluffhead?)

Aroma on this one definitely leans spice as opposed to banana. It is surprisingly subtle, to me it smells like coriander. The hofbrau I had last week definitely leaned clove like so it is very interesting to have this one be spicey but different (future side by side?). I smell subtle bubble gum but not much banana aroma.

Flavor follows the nose to a tee first the spice then the bubble gum on the finish.

Mouthfeel is pleasantly smooth and creamy/fluffy and soft. The carbonation also contributes to the creamy feel. Zero bitterness, finishes with lingering spiciness.

Very tasty beer, it is surprising how different but also similar this is to the hofbrau I had last week. I would definitely be interested to see how these compare in a future side by side if/when the chance arises.

Pours black with significant leakage to mahogany on the edges and a substantial, frothy tan head. Gorgeous black IPA. The nose has citrus and pine hop notes (minor) and roasty cocoa notes (major). Wow.

The taste is canted toward the citrus and piney hop flavors until the very back of palate when the roasty cocoa flavor crashes the gate en masse. Bawitdaba!!!

The mouthfeel is full and medium bodied. If you’re looking for evidence of Bell’s prowess as a brewery, this is Exhibit A in that discussion. Delicious interpretation of Two Hearted.

DFH Hazy O! - I am not an IPA drinker much anymore but when I am in the mood for one I do lean hazy. This one pours a light hazy color with a nice head. Smell is juicy/fruity, oats are there. Taste is interesting, juicy/fruity but the oats and oat milk are clearly present, a nice moderate bitterness to keep it interesting and from being too sweet. Light mouth feel (much lighter than I expected) and goes down pretty easily for 7.1%; if I didn't know any better I would say that this was in the 6% range.

I took a gamble on a six pack and will gladly drink my way through the rest but like most IPAs for me these days I don't see this being a regular purchase...but when in the mood it will be a good choice.

Greetings all from the great Northwest where we have no new snowfall to speak of for the last week, but still below average temperatures.

Today we have Vanilla Porter from Jeremiah Johnson. Pretty good movie as I recall. Jeremiah Johnson not Vanilla Porter.

It smells better than it tastes. But what the hell? I think this porter and killing a keg of my homebrewed stout this weekend should close the book on winter beers. On to pales and hefes. And SPRING!

    Until next time,

    Happy Trails!

Bought this last fall at the recommendation of the beer guy at the local grocery store. Poured from a pint can into a tulip. As soon as I popped the can I could smell the blueberries. Small tan head over a blackish brown body. As the beer warmed from cellar fridge temperature level the smell expanded to include vanilla and maple with a malty pancake smell. Taste follows the smell with such a hearty breakfast taste that it feels like coffee should be there but it isn't. This probably sounds gimmicky but it really isn't. Mouthfeel is perfect for the breakfast motif, hearty and filling. Almost no hint of the 12% alcohol.

This was made specially for last October's Cleveland Beer Week (41 minutes is the time it takes to drive from Akron to Cleveland) and I hope they have this on regular rotation instead of a one off.

Bur Oak Hoppen-Daz Mango Milkshake IPA, 6.0% ABV; 3.53 overall

Pours a slightly hazed gold with 3+ fingers ( vigorous pour ) of bubbly pearl colored head. Floaties, very good head retention & lacing

    S: Some mango notes

T: Mango, tangerine, flinty dryness and some leafy hops as well up front. A little mango, plenty of dryness & leafy hops as this warms, plus a little apricot. Finishes with leafy bitterness & tangerine, plus apricot & dryness

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, pretty good balance

No born on date, so this is what is. I was expecting more creamyness & mango sweetness, drinks alright, but doesn't really deliver on the promised flavor

    Good evening, NBWers!

This evening, I am enjoying a great sipping beer, one that I had hoped to get to a month or so ago, but...

Goose Island Bourbon County Kentucky Fog Stout
    ABV: 14.1%
    IBU: 60
    Earl Gray Tea infused BCBS.

Classic BCBS color - impenetrable black, topped by a meager khaki ring and a few scattered bubbles, from an admittedly gentle pour into the small tea cup in the photo. (A later more vigorous pour into a tulip results in a 1/4 inch quickly receding head.)

Aroma is floral bergamot, bourbon and chocolate. Smells quite sweet.

Taste is again the bourbon, sweet honey, caramel, and chocolate. The tea gives a nice floral bergamot flavor with a subtle black tea presence. I find the mix of flavors to be exquisite and well done. The floral bergamot and tea are gently present, and not the overwhelming dominant player some reviewers found.

Mouth feel is, again, the BCBS thick, viscous, and chewy.

Overall, this is an excellent BA stout as a member of the BCBS family, and the Earl Gray adds a subtle aroma and flavor to make it also distinctive. But, then, Earl Grey is my favorite tea blend.

Glad you enjoyed! One of my faves for sure. I also saw your earlier post about Augustiner Edelstoff and laughed because I picked up a 6-pack of that last week too for the first time in years. I stopped buying it after a couple of quality issues but gave it another shot and I'm happy I did. Great stuff. Prost :beers:
