Im jealous - that sounds heavenly!
    Good Luck with everything!
    Thanks!

Yea, I didn't dislike the beer per se - its just that I was underwhelmed with it - but frankly, that has been par for the course with Founders over the last few barrel aged releases. I was really underwhelmed by KBS Mackinac Fudge (I know, Im in the vast minority on that one) and to me, this one was following in that same vein - sweet flavors that just completely dominate the barrel aging. In the end it just seemed like it didn't know what it was trying to be.

Okay, a couple of new beers today. This first one will be in the box I ship this week to my target in NBW BIF #13 and is from my local (Bare Hands). They nailed this, IMHO.

Pours a beautiful hazy orange color with a dense oatmeal colored head that laces the glass very nicely. The dank citrus notes are most notable on the nose at first thanks to the ubiquitous Mosaic and Simcoe hops, and there’s also a floral, earthy note.

The dank citrus is prominent on the taste, primarily tangerine, but it’s the berry and pepper flavors that separates this hazy DIPA from the pack for me - there’s a lot going on here, but the beer is well-balanced, and especially poundable, which is dangerous given the 9.1% ABV.

The mouthfeel is on the softer side, fitting the hazy side, and works really well with this outstanding beer.

I’m still in the “try everything” stage, at least once, so an imperial milk stout toasted almond tort seemed like something to try.
Glad I did, but doubt I will make it a regular.
Pored black, very black and the dark tan head gave a good effort but dissipated quickly. Huh. The aroma, I kid not, wasn’t all sweet and candy, I smelled cinnamon and had to re-read the label. No heat mentioned. Odd. The taste was nearly sublime, I wouldn’t say I got almond torte, but there was lactose and almond and chocolate and it just worked. Not overly sweet, and no cinnamon flavor at all (still don’t know where that aroma came from!) and a very pleasant beer.
The feel was not unpleasant, certainly not chewy but definitely thick and viscous. Good sipper, tasty beer.
    Cheers all!

Brewing Projekt Smoofee Fruited Sour w blueberry, mandarin orange, and vanilla, 7.5% ABV. Pours thick and purple with a half-finger pink head. Nose is blueberry, orange, and vanilla. Taste follows, quite sweet, slightly tart. Excellent thick and smooth mouthfeel, with excellent carbonation. Overall world-class. Truly a pastry puree sour.

#2, this is also a haul hint for NBW BIF #13. Probably the brewery and beer, definitely the city.

Pours a dark cola color with a lot of leakage to mahogany on the edges and a thin, sudsy tan head that evaporates in seconds. The nose is boozy first, with loads of oak and some vanilla, and a nice touch of rich cocoa on the backside.

The taste has the oak and vanilla and rich cocoa in a perfectly balanced menagerie of rich flavors, and a not so subtle warming boozy note. I don’t normally like boozy, but in this case, it fits really well, especially with the oak and vanilla.

If the mouthfeel was a bit more substantial, this would be world-class, IMHO. I was concerned this would be too sweet, but those fears were unfounded. This is truly a treat to drink, and a brewery that I will definitely explore in the future.

    12 oz. can.

Moderate to vigorous pour yields a one inch, slightly off white head over a slightly hazy body with sticky lacing. Nose of a tad spice with a little bit of floral aromas as well. Taste is earthy floral, slight fruit and sourdough (both of which come out a bit on the nose after warming), with a nice light hop bitterness on the finish. Tiny bubbles for a nice feel and overall, an interesting experience for sure and would recommend to anyone who hasn't had many Belgian Pale Ales!
Find it, buy it, savor it!
    Cheers!

Cloudy, opaque, dirty yellow body; incredibly dense and creamy white head; rocky; sticky patches of foam cling to the glass. Beautiful scent of fresh citrus and tropical fruit; orange and pineapple. Fine, fairly fresh tropical fruit flavors with a twinge of boozy presence; mildly phenolic and bitter; juicy. Heavy body; dense and semi-creamy; mild to moderate alcohol warmth; mildly acidic.

This particular beer exudes fine fruity, estery qualities, counterpointed with some nice boozy and citrus-like aspects. Tasty, juicy, and very pleasing.

The early Spring late-winter like weather continues to pour down on our lawns and gardens. The fresh and tasty aspects of this particular beer seems apt for the outside conditions.

Bratwursts and a pork steak that I smoked yesterday are on the supper menu along with some french fries.

I'm settling in for a cozy, comfortable evening of earthly delights...

    Afternoon/Evening all,

Friday night involved some overindulgence, beer-wise, so I avoided alcohol for most of yesterday. In the morning, despite the condition my condition was in, I headed up the hill to a bar that was opening early for the tournament. My EWU Eagles was a 14th seed being served up to Kansas, a 3 seed, but for 21 minutes the Eags actually led. Crushing when they lost in the last few minutes.

Last night I again ventured out and dared to actually drink more than a bland macro lager, to cover my seat, in order to watch Gonzaga with my buddy Mark at Black Label Brewing.

While neither beer blew me away, the pale ale and the Juicy IPA I had were quite decent, and it was a very different sort of game than the one I'd watched in the morning! Gonzaga teams have been faulted for not playing defense in the past, but I think they've put that one to bed.

    Today it's a cloudy and a bit blustery 46°.
Right now I'm drinking this, a sour ale brewed with apricots and Lactobacillus called Soprano, from YaYa Brewing, in Spokane Valley, and it quite good:

Yet another new offering from Ten bends Beer Co.

    16 oz. can.
    Canned 03/10/21.

Moderate pour yields a nearly one inch off white head over a murky, golden orange body with some lacing. Nose of blueberry and slight piney hops.
Taste is blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream.
    Full stop.
Ok, not much vanilla, so I'd say blueberries and cream...
    ...or even blueberry shortcake?
Nice feel and overall, this hides the 8.2% abv fairly well and goes down easy.
Cheers to to the boys up in Hyde Park, VT for a dessert beer that I'm having before dinner!!

    Another fruited sour beer-adjacent beer.

    Humble Forager Coastal Sunset
Fruited sour with tart cherry, cream cheese, Graham crackers, vanilla beans, and marshmallow fluff (6.0% ABV)

This is, much like the Trillium offering from this morning, hardly a beer - but it's very damn tasty. The feel is marred by a powdery and grainy aspect, but it delivers on the flavor. The toastiness of the malt base and Graham cracker are pleasant at first, but ultimately detract on the finish.

Tempest - All The Leaves Are Brown Bourbon BA

Imperial Brown Ale fermented with maple syrup and aged in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels, from Scotland (11.2%).

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of bready, toasted, caramel malt, with some quite nutty aroma, as well as some chocolate and hints of maple syrup, vanilla and Bourbon-soaked oak.

Taste is an excellent balance of bready, toasted, caramel malt, some chocolate covered nuts, with notes of walnut, hazelnut and dark chocolate, as well as lighter maple syrup, vanilla and Bourbon-soaked oak, with just a hint of bitter, earthy hops as well. Finishes bittersweet, with a light/medium bitterness and some toasted malt, nuts, chocolate, maple syrup and Bourbon lingering in the aftertaste.

Brown Ales are a rare find in these parts, so this barrel-aged example of the style was a real treat with its subtle complexity and great balance of sweet and bitter notes. I really like the interplay of the dominant maple syrup and nutty notes here, which provides a great balance of sweet and bitter elements that is enhanced by some vanilla and dark, bitter chocolate, while the barrel-aging really shines through here with a very nice, mellow but warming Bourbon presence in the finish, which doesn't feel too boozy at all, while providing some musty, earthy oak as well, along with the subtle, earthy and bitter hops.

Currently listening to: Pennywise - California Dreamin'.

Thanks for starting off this week and the idea to share more then our passion of beer.

while for my me my 2nd is homebrewing but since that is too close to beer, a close 2nd to beer and brewing is bbq.

I love cooking for friends and family and trying both old school ways as simple as possible and slow too new school flavors and hot and fast.

but over all prefer low and slow , at one point bbq was my main passion and beer took a back seat and I for about 3 years I did Catering festival vending, and kcbs competitions. winning as fun but started to feel like a second job so semi retired, I still bbq a lot and later this summer looking at 1 bbq competition to do for fun!!

here are my last 2 cooks

Ok now back to beer, I’m. Not a huge sour head or fruit in beer, I like beer flavored beer.

But love trying new beer and
Trying to lean on the funky/ wild side what I like vs don’t.

All I call this was treat and enjoyed each sip, and will be a haul hint for NBS bif

L: pours a fluffy 2 finger disappearing head, that leads to a ruby clear red beer
S: tart cherries , really smells like fresh fruit and not beer
T: luscious bright cherry tartness, has a little sweetness and just the right of mouth puckering sourness
M : medium carb full and rich with a nice dry finish.

The beer was a amazing special treat so well done and amazing way to highlight the cherries used to age this beer

Wanted to just sip on something slow to close out a beautiful weekend. Poured vengeful heart from kane. This one is different from the one I’ve had in the past. This one is a blend of bourbon barrel and dry hopped barleywine.

Pours very nicely, super dark brown with a nice slowly forming dense creamy light brown head. Settles into a nice ring of of that same dense head.

Smell hit me as I poured it...it presents almost a minty smell to it at first. Followed by pretty strong oak and bourbon. There is also a raisin like dark fruit aroma as well.

Wow was my first reaction to the taste it hits the tongue with a really nice sweetness like bitting into a fresh cherry. It’s really neat because it is not sweet at all after that, just the initial hit. Oak and bourbon follow but there is also some leather, tobacco thing going on. The verdict here tons going on but all so well balanced.

Mouthfeel is nice and smooth for how big the body is. Nice moderate bitterness on the finish. Wow though this is a potent beer, I feel like I need to sip as slow as I’d sip bourbon.

A really cool unique and pleasant beer but it really really just begs to be sipped. I think this was the perfect beer to close this weekend out. I wanted to drink it while it was still fresh to get the dry hop character. I’m glad I did because man it really has a cool aroma going on. Hope you all have a great week!

First new beer for NBS proper as Im folding 4 loads of laundry. That stuff builds up fast. Now this beer is one that I was pretty excited to see on its own and not in a mixed pack as it allowed me to just buy this one to try. Bells - Juicy Gossip a juicy pale ale checking in at 4.7% ABV. Now I must preface this with two things - first I am a big fan of low ABV pale ales that pack a lot of flavor (for the style). In fact, Im actively always on the lookout for good flavorful low ABV beers as I prefer these during the week if I'm going to have a beer. Second, I thought bells hit an absolute homerun with Light Hearted, so Im predisposed to like their low ABV pale ales.

Pours essentially clear - which, is admittedly surprising. At this point I assume a "juicy" IPA will be hazy. But nope, this is a mostly clear, effervescent, golden color. Thick, frothy white head forms on the beer and then unevenly dissipates until just a thin layer of foam remains. Lots of sticky white lacing coats the glass. Aroma is, in a word, "juicy". Bright, robust notes of mango, orange, berries, tangerine, and a hint of grapefruit. On the back end there are notes of pine and light hop notes. The most impressive part of the aroma really is just how bright and pungent it is. You aren't missing anything there.

Taste has light notes of orange, mango, tangerine, berries, mango, and tropical fruits. They are a bit on the lighter side, but still distinct and clear. Some light dried hay, pine and pine needle notes come through on the back end with a mild bitterness. Its admittedly light, but for the style its not lacking in flavor. Feel is light, easy drinking, and sort of crisp. Bright, vibrant carbonation.

Overall this is a really well done pale ale - it packs really nice flavor into a light beer. I am not sure I'd pick this over Light Hearted, but its a great beer in its own right.
