    Hello NBW'ers.
Decided to do a pre-bock tasting. Had this last night, and was strangely unimpressed. Had it on tap in the past and liked it. So did a second can just now, and here are my thoughts.
Hop Project's Sticky and Dank. 8.5%
(best by date in July so either March or April canning? I hope?)
TL;DR - it's not great. As Jeff Goldblum might say, "you do plan to have some dank and sticky qualities in this beer called Dank and Sticky, right?"

    3.81/5 rDev -9.5%
    look: 4.25 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

L - see through, golden pine west coast classic, promising. Decent head at first, little lacing.
S - Disappointing, considering the hop mix. No dank? OK, isn't that your name? Not even resinous (yes, it is fresh).
T - Huh, a mouthful of malty hops, old school AF. It's reeeeaaaallllyy trying to be Pliny the Elder, but failing. Not well brewed if they are going for "dank and sticky" (it is neither). It's smooth. But... meh.
F - Ok on carbonation, and again, it's smooth and you won't necessarily know about that 8.5% until it's too late.... while you're muttering, I could have just bought Pliny.
O - Pretty disappointing. Won't buy again, just too malty and not at all fitting with the name of the beer.

bold added- I wonder if this beer will be any better when you receive it in 4 1/2 months. :stuck_out_tongue::stuck_out_tongue: Sorry couldn't resist.

Actually what caught my eye even more was that you thought it only was average for the style, and from your description I might have concluded you thought it below average. I have had about five of their stouts over the years, so I'm hardly an authority, but they ranged from excellent to superb. Surprised to see they put out a disappointing one, especially as it likely was same high price as their others.

Good morning weekenders! I'm starting off light, although I've got some heavy hitters on deck for later.

Drowned Lands Soir is a foeder-fermented black lager, later lagered in oak and then stainless. The amount of care and attention put into this beer really, really shows. This is the second Drowned Lands beer sent my way by @MacMalt .

From the very first sip, this is absolutely delicious. The oak doesn't stand out on the nose, but the complexity it adds to the flavor profile is really noticeable. Dark malt forward, with the hops adding little to the actual flavor; low bitterness, but wonderful drinkability and balance. Flavors of chocolate, coffee, oak, raisin, cola, toffee, and lots of dark bread.

Rob, this is wonderful! It may not technically be a Bock, but I feel I'm joining the Bock weekend at least in spirit now.

Czech Brewery Sv. Norbert, known for an amazing amber lager and dark lager, put out a barley wine hopped with citra. It dances on the line between the worlds of a double IPA and a barley wine and it is quite enjoyable.

Good Morning NBS/NBW and again thanks @WunderLlama for hosting this week.
This is yet another Bock cross post. I am certain to having this in the past on draft, however never at home in this format. The BB date is 09/21 so take that for what it is.
Steady dark bread, raisan , with a hint of clove, The body is delicate with all that flavor.
    Cheers all

Poured from an 11.2 oz bottle with a best by date of 09/21 into the test mug.
A - Tawny, copper color, a touch of haze. Beautiful carbonation, tiny steady accumulates in a dense off white cap.
S - Sweet malt, some yellow raisan, a bit of brown sugar. A bit of fruity ester, and clove.
T - Those sweet dark fruits are up front, then a nice steady, dark bread, with a bit of fig spread.
M - Lite in body, carbonation is quick to clean up, excellent tight band on the palate. Lovely dry finish. Never strays.
O - A very good "Double-Bock" thier label. With all the requiste flavors, and a lighter body than many.

Alright. That does it! I'm 80 miles from Schell's Brewery. Now that major road construction has been completed I'm road trippin' down there this week to raid New Ulm's 2 beer stores. They usually have most Schell beer not available in the twin cities. I'll be lookin' for this beer. Cheers!

Time to engage in some illegal activity, and I have to thank the amazing @jkblr for this one.

    Evasion 2020 - Taxman Brewing - BA Imperial Stout - 14% ABV.

If this beer is a crime, then call me a criminal, because I love this beer. I'll gladly engage in some Evasion from the Taxman in the future, if given the chance.

So damn good, and I'm thankful to enjoy this one.

    Vintage 2020 - consumed 4-25-2021
This beer pours pitch black. There's a decent 2 finger tan head, which surprised me. What surprised me even more is the retention was pretty good. There's even a nice bit of lacing on the glass. It looks like a mountain range on the glass. Beautiful looking.
The nose is wow! Tons of bourbon barrel notes here. Tons of caramel, toffee, molasses, raisin, plum, and some chocolate.
Taste - There's a bitter hint right away that mellows fast into a dreamy mixture of flavors. Caramel, chocolate, molasses, toffee, raisin, plum, and I even get a faint hint of mint mixed in.
The body is good, maybe a bit thinner than I'd expect. The alcohol burn isn't bad, but hits up front, and mellows out fast.
Solid BA Imperial Stout, and a pleasure to try. I'll gladly engage in Evasion with the Taxman again, if I get the chance.

This will keep me very busy for a while, but I'm coming back later for more.

[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz Nordic pint glass best before 6/12/21. Pours a cloudy orange with a half finger sticky white head that leaves thick streaks of lace with nice retention. 4.25

Aroma mango, papaya, pine, apricot, and grapefruit rind. 4

Taste follows papaya, mango, pine, apricot, and grapefruit really balanced with a little bitterness. 4

Mouthfeel is pretty big, a tad sticky but not dry, plenty of carbonation, and at 8.7% it goes down rather easy. 4

Overall this is a really nice DIPA kind of a East meets West hybrid and really well made at a great price. 4

A new to me beer this morning, and thread worthy - Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier - Urbock:

Poured at 55° into my Kozel mug; two fingers of fluffy, rocky mixed bubbles, dark beige head; dark brown almost black color; long cap retention; heavy ring, medium lacing. Smokey, burnt bacon nose. Taste is roasted “burnt ends” from Franklins’ barbecue; roasted malt; toasted brown bread; some sweet malt in background. Medium full body; moderate minus carbonation; no warmth from 6.5% abv; somewhat smooth feeling. Overall, the smoke is mild and the taste/aftertaste is more toast with slight char. Not for me...I could not finish the glass...scored to style.

    Happy New Beer Sunday #843!!!

Starting off today with a suburban brewer I've had a few decent/good beers from in the past. This is a fresh Weizenbock which I am also featuring in the Bock Online Tasting Thread which runs through the weekend.

Miskatonic Brewing Company's Hallo, Mein Name Ist Weizenbock

    Can Notes:
No date, though fresh batch delivered to my local store on April 15, 2021. 12 oz, 7.5% ABV.

Appearance: Nice orangy base when held to light, beige otherwise. Creamy off-white creamy head lingers for a few minutes before leaving a generous ring and coating over the base. 4.25

    Aroma:
Dark rye leads, raisins, plums, spices such as cinnamon, banana and clove. Bread and grassy. Very enticing. 4.5

    Taste:
Bold in strength, mirrors much of the aroma. Sweet caramel, pumpernickel, cinnamon and banana leads. Dark fruit backs well, raisins and dates. Sweeter than I typically prefer, but this is well crafted, the flavors are varied, work well together and I am linking this a lot. 4.25

    Mouthfeel:
Medium body, creamy and sweet, light fizzy carbonation lingers throughout the pour, sweet but not overly, faint dryness, very easy light drinking despite the higher ABV, slight enjoyable sweet aftertaste. 4.25

    Overall:
Really enjoy the depth, aroma and taste profile of this one. I believe this is my first Weizenbock, and I really enjoy the style. Per my review of the style profile here, this is brewed consistent to style and well executed. Have to keep my eye out for fresh drops, as this brewer unfortunately does not date their cans, but will be on the continued lookout for more from this brewer, and more Weizenbock offerings down the road. 4.25

Not sure if a Burger will pair well with my last planned beer today, but I am falling for the marketing suggestion and will return with Portillos and a local Bock to close out the proceedings. Cheers!

Due South has always been completely mediocre to me, but they're one of the easier to find craft breweries in the area, so they're better known than most.

NoBo, on the other hand ... their very existence annoys me, because "North Boynton" isn't a thing, and they should stop trying to make it a thing. No one in the history of ever has claimed to be from North Boynton, as though there's a South Side and a North Side to a suburb (ahem, excuse me "city") that most people don't know exists. And nobody nobody, less than nobody, negative people, use the shorthand NoBo, like, "Oh yeah, I went to school up in NoBo along with Vince Wilfork!" (which I did, but would never say like that).

I thought their beer was surprisingly tasty, though.

The local is where I got my 6 pack of the Maibock, which I can only get in the sample pack locally (St. cloud metro). I'd assume there's a chance they would have it in 6 packs there.

Pitch black pouring beer. There's a beautiful 2 finger tan head. The bubbles look really small in this beer, There's some lacing on the glass.
The nose is somewhat minimal. There's a bit of malt biscuit here. There's also a bit of chocolate here as well.
The flavor is also not too storng. There's some malt biscuit flavor here. There's some chocolate, and coffee as well.
The body isn't too thin, probably about right for the ABV. Dry feeling.
    Not bad at all overall.

    Hey NBS,
    Ghost Light from Angry Chair
    [IMG]

Imperial Chocolate Oatmeal Stout with toasted coconut.

10% abv poured from a can dated 2/13/21

Poured into a tulip glass yields a deep dark brown color and a soapy tan 2 finger head. Head dissipates to a thin tan cap and little to no lacing

Huge chocolate aroma and hints of toasted coconut and roasted oats.

Big chocolate taste, some roasted oat and coconut undertones

Creamy smooth mouthfeel. Low carbonation and a slight alcohol ting. Finishes fairly dry with a lingering brownie taste.

Overall one of the better chocolate stouts I've had in a long time. Amazingly easy drinking and if you are a chocolate stout fan this won't disappoint.

    Thank you @DoctorZombies
