    Hello New Beer Weekend!!!

Home from a long day at work, but it was productive, well, as productive can be after hurting my back on Wednesday. This has happened before, and I'm getting it fixed, but it will be a couple more weeks till I'm back to normal. As another "fun" side effect of this - my right hip hurts like hell. Yuck!

Now on to my new beer. It's one I picked up solely for the artwork.
    America AF - Karben4 Brewing - 3.3% ABV

They say on the can that they combined a Kolsch, and a Berliner Weiss to make this beer. In all honesty - it works.

There's lots of watermelon in this beer. It has a sweet element to it, but also a sour element to it. It's all backed up by a bit of a malty/biscuit back bone.

All in all, damn good, and the artwork is a bonus.

This beer pours a murky, darker golden color. Lots of carbonation translates into a 2 finger white head. The retention is pretty good, and there's a nice amount of lacing on the glass.
The nose is very mild. I do get a faint hint of watermelon. I also get a faint biscuit aroma.
The taste is mostly watermelon. It's also a mixture of sweet and sour. The sweetness kicks in first. It then turns into sour on the backside. I also get a bit of a malt/biscuit flavor mixed into this beer.
The body is crisp feeling. The sour does linger, and the body is overall very damn good.
Delicious beer. Refreshing, and easy to drink.

I might be up for one more tonight. Be back in a bit.

For my late night beer, it was about time I got around to this one.

    Trappistes Rochefort 8
    ABV: 9.2%
    IBU: 22

Sweet malty aroma, dark fruits, candy, figs.

Hazy dark brown / amber, tea-like color, with ample carbonation, dark floaties (but, I didn't really decant as I probably should have), below a thick tan head with only moderate retention, becoming a thick cap after just a few minutes, and eventually scattered islands of bubbles.

The taste is initially reminiscent of a brandy; dark grape must with a prominent alcohol flavor. As the taste develops, it becomes more complex. Sweet candy, figs, dark bread, must, and alcohol. A very slight bitterness toward the finish. The aftertaste is the nicely intermixed previously mentioned dark bread, figs, and alcohol, ending a bit on the sweet side with a mild alcohol warmth.

The body is moderate to thin with some carbonation.

Overall, a very enjoyable Belgian ale. Enjoyable, but not quite the elixir of the gods its overall rank promises.

Fine mahogany brown body, crystal clear; thick and frothy off-white head. Excellent dark roasted malt aroma; a hint of chocolate. Sweet and malty flavor; cocoa and light milk chocolate; subdued hop bitterness. Medium body; smooth and rich; semi-sweet mouthfeel. Medium body; smooth and silky rich; a slight dryness yet with an overall light sweetness.

This is a fine, gently sweet and hearty lager, not too heavy or rich yet flavorful and very satisfying.

55.6 F; no bottle dating information available.

This was from yesterday but I apparently didn't get it posted.

Anyway, I've enjoyed this new (to me) brewery I discovered last week. I would love to return back to Germany and visit this brewery to try some fresh pours (plus see how Berlin has changed since 1989 as well as roam through the Rhineland-Pfalz area, visiting biergartens and gasthäuser)....

Good Day BAs! Off to another damp day here in TX - at least the aquifer is filling. Saw my first local coral snake beside the pool a couple of days ago. Really hated to kill it but with the kids and dogs around ... Today's New Breakfast Beer:

Tornado Shark from Lone Pint Brewery. Purchased on 26/5/21 from room temperature shelf at Total Wine, Selma, TX. $ 4.32 (including tax)/500 mL bottle ($0.270/oz). Stored at home at 42 degrees. Reviewed 30/5/21. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated bottle. Served at 54.1 degrees in a hand washed and dried glass coffee cup, my travel beer glass. Final temperature 57.7 degrees.
    Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Pale Amber (SRM 9), hazy.
Body – Medium Amber (SRM 12), opaque. When rear-lite, translucent and caramel-colored. Light sediment which comes out with the second pour, making the rear-lighting scintillate. Unfiltered mand unpasteurized.
Head – Average (Maximum 3.5 cm, aggressive center pour), copper, medium density, rapidly diminishing, leaving a ragged three to five mm crown, a thin partial cap, and some tiny foam islands above the crown.
Lacing – Poor. A few scattered pieces of irregular lacing but no organized
Aroma – 3 – Barely noticeable roasted malt, no hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 3.5 – Begins slightly sweet with extremely weak malt and a little hop bitterness, no yeast, no ethanol (8.1 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Flavors are weak and unassertive
Palate – 3.25 – Thin, watery, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3 (After deducting 0.25 point for undated personal container). Generally disappointing – weak flavor and practically no aroma, thin mouthfeel, and poor lacing at only 8.1% ABV. One and done, although the price is reasonable for the quality.
    Rating 3.16, rDev -17.9%.

Good morning, Weekenders! My partner and I are starting off Sunday strong.

This is Untitled Art's collaboration with Cerebral Brewing: Barrel Aged Chocolate Macaroon Imperial Stout, a 12.5% ABV BBA imperial stout with toasted coconut and milk sugar.

If you caught the name, you already know what this tastes like: a chocolate macaroon cookie soaked in bourbon. It 100% delivers on the premise.

I have two main criticisms with this beer, I suppose:
    1) This has all the makings of a pastry stout, except the mouthfeel. It's full bodied, but given the presentation, I expected something thicker and chewier. If you're going to go pastry stout, go full pastry stout.
    2) The middle of the sip is super sweet, which is fine - until the back third, with is a little more traditionally bitter and roasty. The drop off once the sugar is gone is dramatic; that sharp cliff is much, much steeper than in any other BBA imperial stout I can recall.

All that said, this beer is really damn tasty. I'm still enjoying it right now, but it's not a beer without flaws. Some minor changes could have made this into a world class pastry stout (if you're into that). As it is, I can't really say the high price tag is justifiable; at 2/3 the cost, sure.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated 5/21/21, into the pilsner glass.
A - Dark cola colored backdrop, hides the very active carbonation. The initial pour yielded a lovely off white loose knit froth.
The caps exit was relatively quick. Lacing is in Cirrus cloud form.
S - Subtle in this area, a bit of cola, dark malts, milk chocolate, anise, earthy/noble hops.
T - Very much follows the nose, with an added kiss of roast malts, kiss of smoke.
M - Stellar, semi dry start, stays that way through the experience, Lite-medium on the palate, with a beautiful clean finish. Stays in a tight lane.
O - A very good dark lager, excellent texture, aroma, and flavors. An easy drinking beer that leaves you with room and desire for another.

Pours a very light, very clear golden color. Lots of carbonation bubbles rising in the glass, which reminds me of champagne. The carbonation produces a 2 finger white head. The head retention is pretty good. As the head dissipates, it's quite sticky and clings to the sides of the glass to produce some pretty nice lacing.
The nose is Somewhat light. I do get a light biscuit aroma. I also get a whiff of honey.
Taste - Up front I get a bitterness from the hops. This mellows on to the backside to a nice biscuit flavor. The back also contains a floral element to it. A bit wild and funky.
Lighter bodied, but that's expected. Very crisp and clean feeling.
Overall a very tasty, easy drinking beer.

Iron Condor a 7% ABV English IPA from Bull n Bear Brewery. The brewery claims this beer is “vastly different” from American IPAs and they are right. I don’t know what the grain bill is, guessing it’s pale malts and nothing else. English yeast is used. The hops used are Fuggle, Challenger and Kent Golding. Served in a pint glass at the brewery it looks like many other IPAs,amber with a nice white head. The head leaves a lot of lacing. The aroma is malty and mild. The taste is as the brewery stated vastly different than AIPAs. It’s malty and less bitter than most other IPAs. Medium mouthfeel long lasting dry finish. A very enjoyable brew.

Welcome one and all to New Beer Sunday 848!

Quick hit and run post and beer before a nearby youth hockey game near the Goose Island taproom.

    Goose Island Colonel Porter

    Brewer notes:
    7.2 % ABV
Colonel Porter commands his legion of malted corn against a hoard of chocolate and roasted malts, only to be thwarted by Millennium, the bitter decedent of Captain Nugget. But for real, this is a porter with like 40% malted corn in it, which is weird, we know. Expect classic porter flavors or roast and chocolate with a crisp and slightly sweet finish from the malted corn.

Appearance: Dark brown clear pour, off white fine head leaves fine lacing. 3.75

    Aroma:
Nice bakers chocolate roast malt aroma. Enticing, mild in strength. 3.5

    Taste:
Taste much bolder than aroma in strength. Can really taste the butter corn malt, really interesting mix which I haven’t experienced in a Porter before. This works really well. Hops neutralize a portion of the sweetness, which the roast malt and chocolate adds to. Sweet but manageable. 4.0

    Mouthfeel:
Light to medium body, slightly creamy, light fizzy carbonation throughout, sweet overall but as expected with the ingredients. Slightly dry, drinks much easier than the ABV, easy drinking, slightly sweet aftertaste. 4.0

    Overall:
This is a unique offering I’m glad I came across. Corn based Porter mask blends well with the traditional roast malt Porter profile, rich chocolate adds to the bold and pleasurable flavor profile. Overall solid offering I will seek again here or in the wild. 4.0

Will catch up with the thread and bring at least one more beer to the thread later today.

Pale and cloudy, bright yellow body crowned with a thick, creamy, frothy white head. Big tropical fruit smell; banana and pineapple; very faint biscuit scent. The taste is a variation of the smell theme; rich, fruity flavors; peach, papaya, pineapple and grapefruit; more pronounced biscuit presence; citrus tanginess; moderate to heavy hop bitterness. Heavy body; velvety and acidic; moderate boozy warmth; dry overall.

For a triple IPA coming in at 10% ABV, this beer does a fine job of presenting a fruity, citrus-like quality over an alcohol hammer. It is very complex with a healthy dose of tropical fruit character with a nice, low-key bitterness with a chewy, lactose enhances body.

Poured at 56° F; bottom of can info: CANNED ON 04/14/21 HARD MASTER.

Poured from a 16oz can picked up today at the brewery, stamped "Canned on 03/31/21" at fridge temp (I was impatient).
Opaque black body sits below an amazing light brown head. Holding to a bright light the body has hints of red and brown in the extremities.
Aroma has a subtle sensation of sweet composted leaves.
The taste is a powerful dry hit a chocolate maltiness that sweetens only after the swallow while your tongue dries to bitterness again. There is a hint of fermented cherries or raisins.
Mouthfeel is impressive for a porter, thin for a stout (I know, debatable distinctions on those styles, these are my opinions).
Excellent Porter, no surprise from this place.
