Continuing my streak of unexpectedly picking new beers, here's Three Philosophers from Ommegang. I've never rated it before, but I've been aware of it forever, so honestly not sure if this is my first taste or just my first review. Anyhoo...

16oz can served in a big snifter. Gift from a friend. Best By 110921. Not sure, but may have been canned on 110920.

Pours a dark amber brown with a medium to small sized head, not much carbonation. Smell is dates, cherries, yeast, a little booze.

Taste is Belgian dubbel/quad...dates/raisins, yeast, maybe a hint of molasses, with a little bit of unsweetened cherry juice added to it. Yeasty for sure, maybe a little hay or grain husk.

Mouthfeel is medium, maybe even lighter. Overall, it's interesting and not bad. To me, the existing score the beer has earned seems inflated, but not offensively so.

    I would be opposed.

When I did participate in WBAYDN, I did post at least tasting notes.

    I gave up.

The thread is too long with too much media loading to make it into a beer review thread.

Ah okay yeah I could see that. But this thread is at the opposite end anymore and doesn't get to many pages (which is surprising considering it's a few days now).

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Nordic pint glass canned on 5/26/21. Pours a hazy yellow with a finger plus sticky white head that leaves loads of thin lace with excellent retention. 4.25

Aroma guava, candy sugar, pineapple, tangerine, buttery Chardonnay, and apricot. 4.25

Taste follows guava, sweet pineapple, tangerine, apricot, and buttery Chardonnay really balanced and slightly different. 4.25

Mouthfeel is big, soft gentle rather cream carbonation, maybe a tad dry, and at 8.2% ABV easy drinking but huge on flavor. 4.25

Overall this one has mosaic I am a big fan, Riwaka I dig, but the Bru-1 is not normally my jam, but instead of must I got a little Chardonnay and it worked well. 4.25

Next new beer is Hypermash Hydra from Bottle Logic. Poured from fridge temp. Pours jet black with minimal head. Nose is bursting with notes. Cinnamon, coconut, very dark chocolate, bourbon, black licorice, burnt toffee, blackberries, and honey. I'm not getting much coffee on the nose. The nose, to me, is not overly complex. That said, I don't think it needs to be. The taste is really nice. Tons of cinnamon and coconut - probably the most dominant flavors. The bourbon is there, but not really dominant. The cinnamon is very strong. It tastes as described. The coffee is there, but I don't get a heavy hit of it. the mouthfeel is crazy - this, to me, is where this beer really stands out. Super thick and creamy. Almost pours as a syrup. Overall, this is a great beer, but definitely not something I would buy again for the price.

Very dark brown and opaque body; thin, wispy and patchy head. Excellent dark roasted malt grain scent; mild coffee note; cocoa nibs. Excellent taste; milk chocolate and dark roast coffee; moderate bitterness; moderate malt sweetness; vanilla. Heavy body; dry, roasted grain feel; a fair bit of residual sugar presence.

This is a very fine, tasty and luxurious imperial stout. The coffee is subdued and nicely complements the inherent sweetness of the base beer.

    Served at 55° F

    ------

It has been a great, beer-y day. But it was not all about the beer. No, sir! A moderate bicycle ride in the morning; re-discovering an old corn cob pipe and tobacco, some great jazz tunes I re-discovered as well; some yard and garden work, and a simple yet tasty grilled meal shared with Mrs. BeerGoot's old work companion.

And the day ain't over with yet...

Probably wrapping up the day with this imperial stout...I've had lots of beer but also been productive with a moderate bicycle ride, home chores, and grill master duties...it's been a fine day overall...

Last contribution this weekend; Kochendorfer Imperial Stout ( Duncan, OK ) with Cocoa Nibs, 8% ABV; 3.93 overall

Pours an effervescent ebony with a pinky of tan head. Nice lacing & average head retention

    S: Cocoa, roastyness, dark fruit

T: Cocoa, roasty grain & dryness up front, a little vanilla as well. Roastyness & dryness as this warms, some cocoa as well. Finishes dry, roasty with cocoa & vanilla

MF: Fairly thick body, moderate carbonation, body thins a little bit once warm

A solid take on the style from a very new brewer. I would certainly buy more of their stuff

First time posting in this thread - I’m more of a WBAYDN guy - so getting in on a little cross post action tonight. Firestone walker mole Merkin (2019).

Is it overpriced at about ten bucks a bottle for a sub 8% beer? Yeah probably. Still it’s an excellent drinker, super balanced, aged well without getting that dusty character some beers with chilies and/or cinnamon can get. Smooth well rounded feel and moderate barrel presence. Just drinkable and tasty and nailed the flavor profile. Sort of like a lighter take on a BA Mexican Cake.

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Snulip glass canned on 5/27/21. Pours a very dark near pitch black with a 2 finger light brown head that leaves a thin ring of lace that stays just above the liquid, with excellent retention. 4.5

Aroma toasted coconut, caramel, toffee, marshmallow, and cocoa. 4.25

Taste follows toasted coconut, caramel, toffee, marshmallow, and cocoa. 4.25

Mouthfeel is above average, really creamy and soft, not dry but maybe a tad sticky, and goes down fairly easy for such a sweet beer. Not sure what the ABV is but I would guess around 9%. 4.25

Overall this is really nice, just a little sweeter than amazing. Recommend for sure and thanks @jzeilinger for this can. 4.25

Keep the faith, brother. I am sure you will find another calling. If you had that long of a run, I am sure you have a solid business sense. Explore what your heart tells you, filter that through your rational business brain, and I am sure you'll come up with something that sustains AND fulfills you.

    Well Hello Late Night NBW(S)
I am trying to get a jump on summer break, but holy shizzle, I am STILL trying to finish up "school year" stuff and begin "catch up on the house" stuff. Thank goodness there is beer. I am enjoying this unique offering from @Victory_Sabre1973 Thanks!

    Grandma's Garden by Outstate Brewing

Pours a red-tinged golden swirl that begins a tad cloudy. But then it clears up and looks lovely.
Nose pumps orange, grapefruit, and finally an orange cream pop smell. Eventually a slight rhubarb note peeks in. But this really smells lovely.
Taste begins much the same. Orange, juicy (not pithy) grapefruit, blood orange. A slight vanilla-tinged rhubarb/strawberry flavor that goes in a tart direction. I like a good strawberry rhubarb pie, so this was pretty spot on for me.
Mouthfeel is on the light side of medium, carbonation is mild but sticks around, and the finish is slightly slick and tart.
Overall, I really like this unique take on a sour. Like I stated it begins more in the citrus wheel house but it does come around to rhubarb.

This was tasty. For folks unfamiliar with rhubarb, this would be a fine fermented introduction.

Yea, but its not like they're all that fond of the style either ...
That is the one from them that I just love. Could drink that one alll day.

So, I actually put the Goldfinger pilsner cans in the fridge last night and drank them this afternoon when we had family over for dinner and I have got to say, its was a whole new experience with that beer. Much, much better than my last experience. It is a hoppy pilsner, but I really enjoyed it. Is it better than dovetail? no. Is it better than a lot of other local "pilsners" yea, I think so ...

I don't believe I ever had molé merkin, but I was always surprised how much I enjoyed their Velvet Merkin - its sub 8%, but so well done I didn't even notice it.

    Greetings, fellow NBWers,

Well, it's 83° this evening and partly cloudy. Quite a change from earlier in the week, when it was highs of mid 50s and blowing 10-20mph, plus a little rain (not enough- we are so fucked come August).

Yesterday, I hit two new beers. First up was an Imperial Stout, Revision's contribution to the Black Is Beautiful project:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/48813/497017/?ba=woemad#review
Really nice imperial stout. Probably the first non-BA one I've had for a little while that really made me sit up and take notice.

Last night I hit one of the last of the beers that @JayO'Rear sent me that are still in my fridge - Absconded, from Free Will Brewing:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28091/553988/?ba=woemad#review
Had to add it to the BA database. I like sours, but I wouldn't call myself an expert re: them. This might be my favorite to date.

Today I'm in the process of drinking and reviewing a Wobbily Man, a "smoked scotch ale" from McCall Brewing, picked up by my friend Lori in the Idaho town of the same name.
Although it clocks in at 7.2% abv, it doesn't drink like a Wee Heavy, and the smoked malts have been applied with a very light touch. Very subly smokey and peatey.
