Yesterday in the Go-To beer thread @nomisugitai posted:

“Something that I can easily purchase by the case, year after year and I like. Torpedo, PBR, DAB, Guinness.”

This got me thinking: I wonder how many BAs purchase beer by the case (e.g., 24 bottles/cans)?

If you do purchase beer by the case, which brands?

    Cheers!

Only occasionally when I'm supplying Two Hearted to my daughter on the west coast, and once when Short's released their Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, a double Belgian IPA which is high on my list of favorites but only released seasonally in a small quantity and not every year. So I voted No since it doesn't happen regularly.

I bought two 12-packs of Fair State's Crankin' Foamers (AAL) for the Fourth of July weekend.

Pennsylvania has really opened up their alcohol laws the past several years. I'm still amazed that I can buy singles. So I've been buying that way for a while now and I have no plans to go back to buying cases.

I can't even remember the last time I purchased 24 bottles/cans of a single beer at one time. Many years ago I'd have to guess. Now, a mix of 24 various beers at one time is another matter ...

I really only buy one beer by the case. Heady Topper. That's just because I need to travel to find it. Otherwise I really don't.

I voted no. While I regularly buy 24 beers or more at a time, they’re hardly ever all the same brewer/style/etc. Even when I’m just stocking my regulars I’ll do like a 6 of Light Hearted Ale, a 6 of Lager of the Lakes, and a 6 of Solid Gold. I’m a sucker for variety. Cheers.

I used buy SNPA by the case when I was younger. I was drinking more and there were many less choices. Now even for picnics or BBQs no cases just a sixtel,

Infrequently, yes. Like when making a run to Wisconsin to grab some New Glarus.

The vast majority of the time, no. Packs of 1 - 12 do the trick.

I am pretty much in the same boat. A number of years ago we had to purchase by the case (i.e., Retail Beer Distributors) but since they relaxed the laws (first 12-packs and then later 6-packs & singles) I have not purchased a case in a while.

I was recently doing some cleaning in the basement and I had sorta lost track of a case of Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout I have been cellaring. There was about 8 bottles in that case box; I purchased that case in 2016. I am guessing these remaining beers should be consumed within the next year (or so).

    Cheers!

Not in a long time. I've recently purchased a 12 pack of something recently, but other than that, it's 4 or 6 packs

Nope. At least not unless I'm buying something in another state that I can't buy at home. I've bought cases of New Glarus, but that's basically it.
I don't drink enough of any one thing to justify it. I guess Dale's Pale Ale, maybe, but I'd rather buy a fresh 6-pack every week or two instead.

12 packs frequently (for the economics of it), cases very rarely, even if I’m buying 4 total cases for a party or something

Do I live in Pennsylvania and complain about the price of Sierra Nevada beer? :stuck_out_tongue:

No, I buy 4 or 6 packs mostly and the occasionally single 16 or 19.2 oz can. I used to buy 12 pack variety packs but now that they are basically a collection of IPAs I pass.

I buy cases of Bigfoot and Vitus annually. I occasionally also buy cases of other, reasonably priced big beers that hold up well, barrel aged barleywine from Central Waters for instance.

Not all that long ago, most of my beer was purchased by the case in Pennsylvania.

This thread is still very young (e.g., only 24 votes) so perhaps I should wait a bit upon commenting but...

I am personally not surprised that for the BA crowd purchasing beer in sizes smaller than a case seems to the the norm. While chatting with the manager of my local Retail Beer Distributor) after purchasing a six-pack of beer I see plenty of other customers purchasing beer by the case (and 30-pack) but invariably those are the types of beers that BAs do not popularly purchase (e.g., beers like Hamms, Busch, Bud Light, etc.).

I suspect there is some retail data out there (e.g., IRI data) which details that case sales are more prevalent for the mainstream/AAL beer consumers.

    Cheers!
