Thanks to @Victory_Sabre1973 for kicking off the festivities this weekend. I stopped by Bottle Logic to try F.O.M.O. today so this summary is from my notes. Pours jet black with a little bit of light brown head. The nose immediately screams coffee. Right after that, I get waves of intense vanilla, milk chocolate, fudge, and bourbon. Very smooth and intense. The taste does not exactly follow the nose. The coffee is light, but the creamy milk chocolate and vanilla excite the mouth immediately. Smooth coffee comes through, along with fudge, ice cream, marshmallow, blackberries, maple, and bourbon toffee notes. The aftertaste is very marshmallow dominant. The mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Overall, this one is sweet but not too sweet, and the alcohol is almost non-existent on the taste. Quite an incredible stout.

Its a decent classic adjunct lager. I like it enough, think I gave if around a B+ score. Though their regular Pilz and Gold (German and Czech) are masterpieces, and I I'll always get those if I have the choice...if that helps

16 oz can poured into a teku

A- A fairly clear golden straw with a two finger white head.

S- Citrus, earthy, pilsner malts, some pine, tropical fruits.

T- Citrus, tropical fruits, pilsner malts, earthy, some pine.

    M- Smooth, dry, medium body.

O- Great combination of lager and an IPA, great hop profile with a lovely lager taste. My first “cold” IPA, kind of feels like rebranding of an IPL but I’m not complaining.

Might not be full ready for this next school year but with a week of prep starting tomorrow I should be ready before I see students, cheers!

    Perfect glass choice! :+1::beer:

Glad you enjoyed it. This was one of my favorite beers that they've done in a while, just a perfect balance between richness and drinkability.

All three are regularly in my fridge, and I think all are among my highest rated beers. I do like Pre War Pils, just not on the same level...but thats just me

Day #2, back from Mom’s birthday bash (where I spent less that $200 feeding 11 people a veritable crap ton of good food - but no alcohol), I muled this back home after finding it in a gas station.

    Yep, a gas station.

I am an inquisitive, adventurous beer nerd. Especially if it’s a brewery the quality of Jackie O’s, and ESPECIALLY if it’s a single-hopped DIPA featuring Citra hops.

Sign me the fliggity flock UP!!!

Pours a very hazy pineapple color with a creamy white head that is Velcro to the glass. The nose is all dank citrus, primarily ripe tangerine, grapefruit rind, and a nice dollop of pineapple. I am salivating.

The taste is led by the tangerine and grapefruit, with the pineapple leading to a full, creamy oat finish. Truly delicious beer.

TG’s King Sue is a single-hop DIPA featuring Citra hops, or at least it used to be (not sure if the change to hazy changed the hop profile), and this is every bit Sue’s equal. Exceptionally well done by a fantastic brewery.

PS: me and Mom last night. I ate my body weight in delicious broasted chicken.

@Rub_This_BBQ is apparently going to source most of my Sunday drinking this week. Now I'm drinking the Fox Farm Quiet Life Czech-style pilsner he forgot in the box with his delightful cherry sour.

16oz can served in an angular wineglass. Canned 08/11/21.

Pours a clear light golden, slight bronze tinge. Big head that collapses into a pretty skin. Smell is grainy and sweet, mild grass/hay aroma. Smells really attractive right now.

Taste is leaning the same direction though the sweetness is muted. A bit of a honeysuckle characteristic, but a nice grassy bitterness with a very slight lemon zest. Graininess is still clearly evident. Getting an echo of a bready note that makes me think of Oktoberfestbier in a very good way.

Mouthfeel is very light, dry, clean. This is a very nice beer.

At least when I started composing this post, it looked like I'm going to be posting back to back...but here's little local Seapine's pilsner.

16oz can served in an angular wineglass. No date that I can see, but I bought it at the brewery a week ago.

Pours clear light yellow with a big head that fades to a clumpy curtain and rocky islands. Smell is mild grain tea, a little lager yeast, a bit of lemon, mostly a grassy freshness.

Taste leans more toward the grains with an earthy bitterness, less of the grass, maybe a little bit of honey sweetness.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, not clingy but not airy. Overall, nice pilsner. Not exactly competing with Jack's Abby or Fox Farm. But no slouch.

    Peculiar Ales -- Two Goat Chariot (kviek-style lager) -- 51 °F

Medium yellow body; mild cloudiness; robust carbonation; thin yet lasting head, dense and creamy; fat patches of foam decorate the glass interior. Very nice earthy, rustic smell; toasted grain notes. The taste leans towards a woody, herbal aspect with a bit wheat-like character; light to moderate bitterness. Medium body; rather dry overall.

This is an interesting beer on various levels. The taste and smell have a certain uniqueness that I find somewhat difficult to accurately describe. But that is a large part of the appeal with this beer. I'm fairly sure the kviek yeast is a big player here. I'd love to try more of this and would love to see more brewers experiment with kviek yeast.

Poured at 51 F; no canning data seen on the can.

    ------------

Yes, indeed. The joy of finding a new-twist on an old style, but in using a different yeast and not trying to create uniqueness with the addition of radical, non-traditional beer ingredients or adjuncts. German pilsner and Strata and Heull Melon hops were also used.

Finally getting a chance to catch my breath after a couple rough weeks at work. Decided to dive into the cellar for another barleywine venture.

Pours a deep brown with about a finger's worth of mocha foam that dissipated before I could even get a picture.

Smell is heavy vanilla with just a touch of maple and barely any bourbon. Pleasant, easy smell.

Taste is much sweeter than I expected, but looking through other reviews, I wasn't the only one thinking it was sweet. The vanilla tastes almost like frosting. I'm a fan, but still somewhat new to barleywines, so not sure if this is uncommon to the style or not.

Feel is medium bodied. It looks a lot thicker than it drinks. Vanilla sticks around the longest.

A very nice, easier to drink than I expected, beer. Definitely drinks less ABV to me than it is.

Delmar Imperial Stout from Templin Family Brewing in Salt Lake City, Utah. I brought it back from last weekend's road trip to Albuquerque. Little bit of a deviation from the previous lagers and sour.

16oz can served in an angular wineglass. Bought it at the brewery nine days ago. Don't see a date on it.

Pours black, medium carbonation, with a big creamy light khaki head that collapses into a thick curtain and an even thicker blanket. Smell is dark roasted malts and anise.

Taste is strong anise, a molasses sweetness, dark roasted malts / coffee / super dark chocolate.

Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, a little chewy and sticky. Overall, this is quite good.

    Hey, New Beer Weekend #58!

From a bit earlier today: a Vienna-Style Lager from Dovetail.

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/45802/261869/?ba=Todd#review

16oz can. Unreadable canned date, but procured in July 2021. Thanks to @FBarber for the beer!

Poured into a 21.5oz Lager Fest Willi Becher. Rich, bright copper colored beer with a slightly off-white creamy foam lace that fades to a ring and eventually altogether. Some unfiltered dregs drop in hazes things up a bit. Nose is malty AF with wonderful toasty and caramel notes. Firm, light-ish body, with some crisp carbonation, but overall soft on the palate. First sip is packed with more malty goodness that's toasty, grainy, and bready (think dark bread crust) with layers of caramel, a touch of honey, and a dry, biscuity finish. There's a restrained bitterness that brings a nice hop bite, spicy white pepper, and some lemongrass. A bit nutty toward the end with a semi-astringent. grain husk linger. Things get a bit resiny and earthy too.

Dovetail's Vienna-style Lager is a damn good example of the style that leans toward traditional versus modern American. Definitely seek it out.

Have an awesome rest of your weekend!

This is a serious longtime want, and when I saw it on Tavour, I bought six without a second thought. Very glad I did. For some reason I thought this was an old school kind of bitter IPA, but then I poured it. BA says it’s a New England IPA, so I’m thinking the cloudiness is supposed to be there. But it still has that old school vibe, and the bitter dank pine works well with the juicy citrus. I have to say I love it, and if Tavour sells it again, I’ll buy another sixer. [IMG]

My next new beer this weekend comes from @WunderLlama who has made it his goal in life to ensure that my porch is completely destroyed. This is Hill Farmstead - Susan.

Pours a bright, completely opaque, orange color. Thick, sudsy off white head forms, then dissipates leaving a quarter inch of foam in the glass along with plenty of sticky lacing. Aroma has notes of tangerine, orange marmalade, grass, dried vegetation and a slight woody character to it.

Taste follows the nose with notes of citrus, orange, orange marmalade, and peach giving way to a grassy, vegetal, woody hop character on the back end. Clearly the Riwaka are coming through on the back end. Moderately bitter, mildly sweet, completely delicious. Feel is moderately bodied, smooth, and pretty easy drinking. Moderate carbonation.

This is a really nice IPA from Hill Farmstead - they get so much out of the hops both in the aroma and taste, its impressive. Well worth drinking if you get the opportunity.
