New Metric: Average ABV?

    A recent thread about cutting back on bigger, BA beers got me thinking. One possible way to see the intake of these beers roughly would be to have an average abv for all beers reviewed. Obviously this would only be counting reviewed beers and no repeats, but I still think it might be useful, and I'm always curious to see more statistics. Anyone else have thoughts about this?

    I would bet that the average ABV of beers reviewed/rated in a given year would be higher than the average ABV of beers consumed by BA users. @Todd 's stat above is the average for all new beers added to BA that year (so it excludes any beers first released before 2020 and doesn't take quantity of reviews into account... if I'm reading it right).

    Thanks Todd, but I was more or less referring to have an individual statistic for each BA user. Kinda like how it shows our average rating based on the beers we've personally reviewed. I can't see it being that difficult if you wanted to do that, a simple sum and division much like the average rating. No worries if it's not worth your time, curiosity just gets the better of me sometimes!

    Yeah. My bad. Replied from my phone and missed that part.

    Definitely easy to calculate, but not something that we'd want to calculate every time the stat is requested. So, this would require creating a new field in the database and dropping it into our cron script that updates daily user stats. Not a big deal, but there's been no demand for this stat until now.

    Grouping some ABV ranges could be interesting too. I'll give it some more thought.
