My new beer this Sunday is from Jackie O's. Convex Refraction - a bourbon barrel-aged doppelbock. Poured from fridge temp into a Jackie O's tulip. Pours black/very dark brown with almost no head. My immediate reaction to the nose is nutty. After a minute I start getting some toffee, bourbon, vanilla, malts, a touch of spicy cinnamon heart candy, and subtle raisin notes. The nose isn't actually popping out of the glass as much as one might expect from a 13.7% beer. The taste just takes everything to the highest level. THIS is where the beer shines. Unbelievable. One of my favorite tasting beers of the year. Huge amounts of toffee, vanilla, malts, sherry, bourbon, chocolate, brown sugar, and more dark fruits. Definitely a jammy note. Definitely leaning towards strawberry jam. Damn this is just so good. The alcohol is not noticeable, making this a dangerous one! Mouthfeel is medium bodied - the fact that it's a doppelbock comes through on the mouthfeel. Definitely not thick and viscous like a big BA stout. Overall, one of my favorites. Jackie O's has a winner here! Cheers all!

I love the look of their cans, writing and the feather. I feel like I’ve seen you post them before and they all share that same theme.

There is only one offering without the Feather. But yes it’s the house symbol
The contents are always top notch.
    Cheers

    Another? Yup but brief.
This one from the awesome @Nugganooch.
Ive had some Burgeon beers before some from Dane. Always good.
No exception here. Theres a ton of ripe mango and pineapple in the nose on this one. Blueberries as well. Nice and golden clear with short lived head and almost no lacing. Easy drinking fruity and refreshing. Another Cali style I dig. Yup a crusher and a very good one.

My last new beer for this weekend is Bell's Double Two Hearted. Poured from fridge temp. Pours a nice transparent orange with very light tan head. Nose is pine, toffee, leather, damp wood, and some malty sweetness. Really nice balance of sweet and bitter. The taste is definitely along the lines of a big American barleywine. This and Bigfoot have a lot in common. The hops are still prevalent, with a nice sweetness in the middle. Toffee, figs, resin, raisins, a floral note, hay, grass, leather, and oak. Very smooth and drinkable despite the higher ABV. This would be a masterpiece to age. I will definitely pick up a couple and put them in the cellar for 5-10 years. My guess is that it will become more malt forward. Mouthfeel is fairly light. Overall, this is a fantastic beer. Cheers!

I think I have one of those in the cellar. Apparently didn't make it out for the Barleywine tasting weekend. May need to address that soon!

    Good evening NBW
I'm drinking and enjoying this imperial saison courtesy of @BigIronH
    [IMG]
    Brewery Vivant Zaison
16oz can PACKAGED ON 08/02/21 poured into a becher glass at fridge temp 9.5% ABV. The beer pours hazy peach colored amber with off white head. The head recedes to a pencil thin ring with no residual head or lacing. The aroma is mild with orange peel, light black pepper and a little spicy yeasty note. The taste is semisweet pale malt with the orange peel and black pepper showing up immediately. Further sipping brings out a touch of clovey yeast and mild bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. The ABV is well hidden. Overall, very good imperial saison. I like the sweet and spicy interplay.

This was my first Brewery Vivant review here on BA, which is a shame. They used to distribute down here before I was active and I tried and enjoyed a few of their beers. I tend to forget how many great breweries are in Michigan.

Thank you Harley! Awesome box and right up my alley. Cheers all!

Alright, this is my final entry for this NBW thread! Cloud Curtain is an "oat whip DIPA" from Mountains Walking Brewery, and I have absolutely no idea what that means. DDH Strata is usually a good thing, and this is about three-and-a-half weeks old so that bodes well for my enjoyment of it. I've had a few MW beers that were twice the age of this that were surprisingly still great so yeah. Excited for this!

Pour is actually quite nice. It's an orange-yellow color with a hefty haze to it, capped off with a generous dollop of meringue-like white foam that features excellent legs and consistent lace. Definitely aesthetically-pleasing.

Strata is a very cool hop when it's used right, and I'm getting the feeling this will be an example of a solid utilization of it. It leads off in the nose with pungent tangelo aromatics blended with some dankness and clementine-like citrus notes. I enjoy that it is pretty dedicated to the hop and doesn't seem to deviate from these central notes much, but I think Strata can be pushed slightly more at the same time. Probably nit-picking a bit honestly, so take this with a grain of salt.

Excellent flavor profile, I must say. Orange marmalade upfront with a creamy feel (is this what "oat whip" is implying? IDK, whatever), some slight resinous notes in the mid-palate, sugared grapefruit closing in on the finish, and a bit of papaya (maybe? I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what it is I'm tasting here but that seems right). I like that this balances the feel of a "milkshake IPA" with a more aggressive hoppiness, and it's successful because it seems like the best of two different worlds that rarely meet in today's IPA scene. Very good stuff.

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Snulip glass canned on 7/19/21. Pours a very dark near black with a 2 finger sticky light brown head that leaves thin streaks of lace with excellent retention. 4.25

Aroma pumpkin, cocoa, chilly pepper, coffee, and nutmeg. 4

Taste follows pumpkin, peppers, cocoa, coffee, and nutmeg the spice is mild and it is loaded with flavor. 4.25

Mouthfeel is above medium, maybe a little dry, plenty of carbonation but slightly creamy as it warms, and at 7% it goes down rather easy. 4.25

Overall this is another really nice version of this classic stout. If you like pumpkin beers a must try. 4.25

Great Raft Kanpai Style Rice Lager, 4.0% ABV; 3.79 overall

Pours an effervescent bright gold with 2 fingers of pearl colored head. Alright head retention & lacing

S: Sweet breadyness, some citrus notes

T: Very dry, sweetness, little grassyness & soapy hops up front. Grassy, lime notes a little soapyness & very dry as this warms. Finishes dry, a little sweet with lime & grassyness

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, super dry

As a stand alone beer this doesn't wow me, could certainly slay some with some Sushi or Sashimi. True to the style

Oude Groseille a Maquereau Verte Tilquin a l'Ancienne (gooseberry lambic)

375ml corked/caged bottle served in a pair of stemless wineglasses. 2019/2020 bottle.

Pours a clear golden with no head and no carbonation. Smell is super tart, maybe lemony, general unripe fruit.

Taste is jaw clenchingly tart, with a green unripeness that makes me think of the gooseberries we used to steal from my parents' bush (although it wouldn't come to mind if the label didn't say gooseberry on it). Something savory.

Mouthfeel is very dry and light. Overall, it's enjoyable and interesting, but probably not a repeat buy.

Uberfest, "Imperial Oktoberfest" from Silver City.

16oz can served in a stemless angular wineglass. Dated 08/20/2021.

Pours a rich brown amber with a small head and medium to low carbonation. Smell is caramel and nuts and a little booze, grain character is almost lost in the booze and sweetness.

Taste is...better than I expected from the aroma. Sweet and boozy, yes, but very grainy, some toast and biscuit and light toffee and nuts.

Mouthfeel is not quite thick and heavy, but approaching it. Overall, it's pretty decent. If it wasn't for the booziness, I think I could drink a lot of this.
