ICYMI: Edgar (@BeerThugLife) and I are brewing a beer for Extreme Beer Box (one of twelve extreme beers in the box). We already have a base beer, which is a 13% Imperial Stout that's been aging in barrels (bourbon and rye whiskey) since February 2021. We plan on brewing another big Stout that we'll then blend, condition, can, and ship to Half Time, who'll then drop it into the Extreme Beer Box and ship it to thousands of happy beer geeks across the United States.

But this is for Extreme Beer Box, so it can't stop there! And that's where your help comes in.

Where should we take the blend next? Vote now on the creative twist that we put on this beer.
    1. Mexican Breakfast: think, "churros and cuernos, Mexican coffee, plus some Abuelita."
    2. Mexican Chocolate Cake: think, "toasted-coconut, vanilla, marshmallow, cocoa nibs, and whatnot."

And feel free to comment below.

Looking forward to seeing where this lands, and then tasting the result with 2,000+ of you early next year!

First confirmed beer and the Extreme beer box is off to a great start!

    Gotta go with coffee.

Love that you are asking for input! I think coffee and churros sounds excellent. Whose Abuela are you sacrificing for this?

Blending BA beer with non-BA beer breaks my heart.

but I vote "Café de Olla," Coffee, cinnamon, and piloncillo, with orange\lemon peel, clove, anise optional.

Why's that? I feel like it's a good way to dial in the exact amount of barrel character that the brewer is going for

What monsters voted against churros?! I'm still bummed Nestle bought Abuelita but Ibarra just doesn't taste as good.

Dang, now I'm thinking about a champurrado beer and how good that would be...

Since I assume 'breakfast' means coffee, at least in part, I chose cake.
    Gracias.

Because every beer I've had where they blended BA with non-BA beer, the barrel character was all but wiped out. I bet the beer out of those barrels was 10x better than the final product.

Skip the Abuelita and go for Popular.

…and now you got me thinking about champurrado beers!

Agreed. It might also allow the coffee, churros, etc to shine through more. Very excited for this one! Sometimes I want a little coffee in my bourbon and sometimes I want a little bourbon in my coffee...

Fair enough. I tend to trust brewers with blending for the best flavor profile, but I can understand where some would do it to maybe cut costs without regard for flavor

Why are you limiting the ingredients to one or the other? This is Extreme Beer. Throw it all in for Double Mexican Chocolate Breakfast Cake.

Besides the 2015 I had on Halloween, it’s been a while since I’ve had one but Stone w00t stout is a good example IMO.
