I have the good fortune of being reasonably close to Roaring Table where they have a great Czech lager on the Lukr -- only place to get it as they don't can it or pour to growlers or crowlers. Very nice brew.

Can anyone chime in on if there are any differences between the magnum bottles and tallboy cans of Goldfinger Champagne Shores? Just curious if format will change the flavor or mouthfeel of this beer? I will probably be grabbing the tallboys and can't justify buying a magnum bottle of that beer.

The beer is the same - I imagine the carbonation and head will differ between the magnum and the 16 oz cans, but taste should be the same.

I'm guessing that's a beer that they felt had Champagne-like qualities. Do you know if they packaged it like Champagne as pretty much a novelty packaging stunt to make people want it for New Years parties... or if they fermented it in the bottle (and not the can) like Champagne - I mean by using yeast or perhaps Champagne yeast for secondary fermentation in the bottle, but obviously not going so far as to introduce riddling or whatnot?

Yeah, I figured it was the same beer going into different formats. I am a bit of a "Saison purist" and I prefer drinking my Saisons out of a bottle with a cork and cage mostly because thats how most of the authentic saisons are usually packaged. Figured that might be similiar for a "champagne lager".

Who knows...just nerdy beer talk for inquiring minds?

    This might be a possibility.

Its not refermented in the bottle - they brewed a brut lager to have champagne-like qualities and yes, I suspect cashed in on NYE marketing.

I know they had a small "pre-order only" sale of the magnums that sold out. I was told they were canning the beer and had no more bottles to sell, however the cans would be sent to distribution with a single bottle to their better accounts.
So...I guess a bottle or two may come up for sale, but I assume it is a marketing/ display use they are looking for first and then the stores will do what they will. (Meaning: a special employee may get a special bonus; or there may be a charity raffle; or some questionable accounting accommodation.)

This Goldfinger Baltic Porter...wow. Don't sleep!!

Roast-y, chocolate-y which a slight lager crispness that adds incredible balance. Complete home run.

(I assume us experts all know that Baltic Porters are lagers and I won't be "corrected" here)

@FBarber - what is the best Goldfinger beer that you've had?

As you're closer to source and have more chances than I've had for draft-only stuff.

    In fact, maybe a top 3 / top 5?

Maybe no one else cares, but I'm dying to know. I'd also open this up to anyone who regularly visits the taproom.

Anyone have an in at Goldfinger? Trying to get it at my (northwest) Binnys and seemingly no one from Goldfinger will return the beer managers emails or calls. I had the pils and want more but don't want to have to make the 40 minute drive down to St Charles.

For me the pils is perfect, followed by the original lager and then I really like the Mexican lager.

The only beers that they have released that I have missed were the Amber lager and thiolfest. I haven't yet the chela chido negra or the Champagne Shores, but have both of those in my fridge for this weekend. With that in mind, here is my top 5 favorite:

    Grodziskie
    Black Lager
    Mexican-style Lager (Chela Chido)
    Bohemian Pilsner
    Black Pils

The Grodziskie was a collaboration, but it better come back. Its the best Grodzizkie in Chicagoland (better than Dovetail's and I love Dovetail's). Also, their mexican-style lager was a revelation - they get this toasted corn tortilla flavor from it and its amazing. The Black pils is on right now and its delicious - its a mind bending beer because its dark and you expect this big roasty lager, but it drinks just like a pilsner.

Grodziskie is their g.o.a.t. beer so far for me. Best grodziskie I have had easily
