Chicago has a wealth of great lager-centric breweries from the old stalwarts like Metropolitan, to well established breweries like Dovetail to the up and comers like Goldfinger. In addition to those lager-centric breweries there are a number of breweries turning out great lagers like Roaring Table, Art History, Hopewell, Maplewood, and Riverlands to just name a few. This thread is to discuss any all lagers produced or tied to Chicagoland.

I am kicking off New Years 2022 with the Goldfinger - Hop Butcher collab Champagne Shores

The magnum bottle is nearly perfectly clear - no haze here - but its, uh, not my favorite beer. The hops are bringing this odd bitterness to it that really stands out since its so dry. Ah well, at least it looks cool. Cheers to a new year!

Looks very different from the cans...my 4 pack ranged from cloudy to opaque. Cheers!!

EDIT: in the end, same conclusion...not Goldfinger's finest work.

Just wanted to say, that is one glorious pic there! Even more excited to try mine now (minus all the negative feedback lol). I'm just happy I don't have to switch over to champagne at midnight to appease my lady this year... it always ruins the flow of fantastic craft beers I break out for nye. The best part is, she's more excited about this than I am, it's a win, win!

Was here to say the same. Thought maybe it was just a bad can, but the second poured just as hazy as the first. I slow-poured the last two cans of the 4 pack and it was clear, so perhaps just a bad canning job? Didn't taste much of a difference between clear and hazy fwiw.

Does Goldfinger have a canning line?

I believe they have a mobile canning unit come in when they do the canning.

Roaring Table's Keller* is pretty damn good.

Notes of sweet corn, soft wheat, mild caramel & faint lemon. Easy to drink but with a bit of heft.

    Recommended!

*awfully generic name for a Kellerbier.

Is this the reason why I have had multiple cans of beer from Goldfinger that lost carbonation from the can and are flat? Usually 1 can per 4pack this has happened to me with the Polish Pils, Grod, Mexican Lager, and New Zeeland lager.

I had this happen to a can of Mexican Lager that was sent to me. Completely still. It was a bummer and a drain pour.

My buddy and I have plans to hit there (again) in a month, but I may have to go searching before then.

Like you, I'm becoming a RT fanboy.

I just had Wolfssegen, a Munich Dunkel from Riverlands. Dated 10/28/21, so not super fresh.

I wish I would have had this when it first came out...not just because of freshness, but also there's GREAT fall vibes here. Autumn leaves, mild caramel & faint brown sugar on this bad boy. Substantial, almost creamy mouthfeel but a low enough ABV (5.2%) that you could have a couple.

If you see some still out there, I'd snatch 'em up!

It's a freaking dunkel, not sushi.

I mean, I bought and drank it. I wasn't complaining.

However, one of the best parts of drinking local beer is sometimes having it SUPER fresh!

Also, I won't be offended it you swear on here. Unless you're too freaking scared.

If you can tell 2 day from 2 month dunkel without looking at the date - sure, and more power to you.

Dang! That's what it was! I was like "why does my breakfast taste like an artisanal mixture of 5 hand selected hops?"
