+1 on Evil Genius being "less than mediocre."

Considering the number of micro and nano breweries in Eastern PA, I'd like to talk to someone who regularly buys beer from these guys thereby passing on other, better alternatives.

I don't patronize any brewery whose beer I don't enjoy.

I’ve noticed a few breweries in the area seem to be sending their beer to “influencers” and that kinda turns me off. I don’t avoid these breweries completely I just don’t go to them or buy their beers as often. Just kinda cheesy when breweries do that.

@zid (as usual) nailed the main issue for me. There's so much beer on the shelves these days that I've got to have a reason TO buy your beer, whether I've got any reasons to avoid you or not.

In that context, marketing/labels play a way bigger role than I (or many of us) like to admit. If I'm put off by your labels, and haven't had your product recommended to me by a reliable source, then there's no way I'm ever going to pick your stuff up. Next criteria is definitely quality and consistency.

If we're talking about local joints, and why I would avoid them. It usually comes down to quality. There are 3 local brewers that I basically never visit because I don't like their beer at all. We don't really have any local beer drama around any of the more social issues, but there is certainly behavior by management that could lead me to avoid a place.

Is there a news article on this? I tried a cursory search to no avail.

Probably those writers for beer talk sites and online beer 'magazines' who create those faulty 'top beer lists' of which we casually smirk about when someone posts a link in the forums here.

With the amount of options available, I have the option to decide who does get my beer $$$'s more than who I do not buy from.

Off the top of my head, a brewery like Decadant I avoid because the beer is simply not good IMO. Some local breweries I stopped going to because I have superior options in the area (living within 5 miles of Sand City affords such). I also avoid breweries that are just too darned expensive.

Other than that; I drink what I enjoy. To even be able to pick and choose says alot of good about where the industry is.

There was a thread on “Beer Talk” devoted to this story around the election in 2020. I think it was deleted because of the controversy it engendered. Lots of strong opinions as I recall.

One thing left off that list is atmosphere in a brewpub. Do you return after the first visit?
If the place is set up wrong feels uncomfortable and or has to much noise, uncomfortable chairs, nothing can make up for these type of issues. Good places have friendly locals and don't get geeked out with pretention.

And the owner of a company that is trying to unionize that doesn’t realize that they failed their employees would try to fight/stop it. Doesn’t sound like you are that type.

This is true. There are probably fewer than 15 breweries that I breweries that I purchase from currently. Mostly locals and a few regionals (Edit: a few imports too) Obviously, if I’m traveling I’d try to find a local and have a number a breweries that I would purchase from if I see them (which likely won’t happen unless I visit the brewery or am in close proximity; for example, Russian River, Alchemist, hill Farmstead, Tree House, etc.). For example I was in a bar last week with Allagash White on tap. I’d seen it mentioned here so often and it was the first time I’d ever seen it, I had to buy it.

Edit: Allagash White is a great beer. I hope I see it more often.

I won't buy Camden because they sold out to the very worst -Abinbev

I won't buy beer with lowered abv "to meet consumer trends" - in other words, trying to avoid tax hikes.

I try not to buy Stone too much because it's expensive and Greg Koch is an asshat. I would like to try Ruination 2.0 again though.

Oh yes and and beer companies that indulge in SJW activities. Thank goodness most produce terrible beer that I would never buy anyway.

Beat me to it! There is a brewery in my city that I love because they make outstanding beers. However, the one time I visited in person, their demographics were very homogeneous, ie, the crowd was overwhelmingly 20 something. To make matters worse, the music they were blasting not only reflected their taste, but was also earsplitting, tasteless and annoying; my fellow 40 something friend and I had to take our business to the next nearest brewery that had a much more chill vibe, where we could converse in peace and actually made friends with other patrons.
I still love the quality of the 1st brewery’s beers and have compromised to simply buy their stuff in supermarkets/bottle shops for home consumption.

Someone stated earlier in the thread about brewers not really naming their beer. How is that a big deal?
I like a brewer up here , Hammer and Stitch, and they just name all their beer The Lager etc etc.
Straight forward and to the point. Doesn't hurt that they are good

Yeah, but how do you find that out unless you've bought (or been given? otherwise sampled?) one of their beers at least once?
