Good afternoon, NBW! I join you today with my first taste of a beer I sent out to several others, some of whom have reported success. I agree with them. This is nice.
    Buoy's Dunkel Lager.

12oz can served in a footed pilsner glass. Dated 12/21/21. I think I bought it at the Metropolitan Market in south Seattle.

Pours a dark ruby / caramel color with a fairly large, creamy head that settles slowly into a clumpy layer that seems to be trying to climb to the top of the glass. Smell is bready / toasty, very grain forward, a hint of nutty toffee. Just a whiff of grass or flowers.

Taste is soft, sweet, grainy, strong barley tea flavor, but with a slow creeping bitterness that's mostly grassy / leafy.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly pillowy, very light. Overall, this is really nice, easy to drink, very enjoyable.

20 degrees (feels like 6) a refreshing kolsch sounds just about perfect, courtesy of @snaotheus.

Perfect look for a kolsch, incredibly light pale with lively carbonation bubbles dancing throughout pour, it was quite pretty to watch. Big quick forming head that dissipates to soapy cap of white.

Big hit of white grape, pears and light apple; hint of white bread.

Tastes is similar to the nose but the white bread note sort of carries the fruit notes. Sort of revers from the nose.

Light body, lively effervescent carbonation, no sweetness or bitterness, incredible clean finish, really nice aftertaste lingers, zero bitterness. It’s funny I just noticed on the can they say “a little too quaffable” I agree 100%

This is an incredibly memorable kölsch, and made so well. I remember reacting this way when I had gaffel the first time. This beer is really perfect, continued to be spoiled by this most recent box @snaotheus thank you!

    ———-

Im exhausted from shoveling and playing with the kids outside but…I plan to go on a nice frigid night walk shortly and crack one last new beer tonight if I can after that. If not I’ll continue to enjoy all the posts and catch up on new beer tomorrow.

Glad you like that. Chuckanut has secretly creeped up my list of "best WA breweries" as I've started to appreciate subtle styles more. They are a damn good brewery.

#2, more Massachusetts love for potential bomb cyclone participants. This is courtesy of @WunderLlama and is the best fruited beer I’ve ever had.

As someone that had easy access to New Glarus beers for the better part of two decades, that is saying something.

    The color: raspberry.

    The aroma: raspberry. In duplicate

    The flavor: raspberry. In quintuplicate.

The feel: medium, full, and fitting for a grown fruit juice box.

This made me think of my Dad, whose guilty pleasure was a raspberry milkshake from Dairy Queen. This is all raspberry, all day (and night and the next day) long.

I thought the New Glarus fruited beers (like Raspberry Tart) we’re as good as fruited beers could get.

I was wrong - so, so wrong. This is traveshamockery good.

Off the wagon for a couple days and couldn't wait to try this!

    11.2 oz. bottle.
    L.31.08.2023
    (Best by date.)

Gentle to moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch white head over a light to medium golden body with fairly thick lacing and lively bubbles feeding it's head. Floaties abound!

Nose of fruit (pear?), spice, and slight citrus (orange.)

Taste of (in no particular order) honey, some bread, slight citrus, pear, peach, spice, caramel. Definite orange peel on the finish with the spice and a bit of honey as well.

Feel is above average for the style.

Overall, I was very excited for this way before I had one in my hand and was not let down at all! Seek this out!! Cheers!!!

...I remember that event well from north central Ohio (Mansfield, my hometown, is where the trucker James Truly was buried in snow for six days (near Mansfield Lahm Airport)...personally, I recall several days of beer, weed, tuneage, and surreal times as we dug out...

Now I have to ask, what album or artist was played the most during those several days?

Pours a very hazed gold with 2 fingers of fluffy eggshell colored head. Stellar lacing & good head retention

S: Loads of guava, passionfruit & oranges
T: Follows the nose, a little nectarine as well up front, along with a little dryness & lime. Tangerine, lime, guava & passion fruit once warm, just a kiss of grapefruit too. Finishes with guava, grapefruit & oranges, plus a little dryness

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, great balance

Very nice take on the style, super drinkability

...Jesus...Russell, Dave G., and I were big into David Bowie, Allman Brothers, Lou Reed, Cars, The Band, MIchael Stanley Band...WMMS (101 FM) out of Cleveland with the likes of Kid Leo, Matt the Cat, Jeff and Flash also were tuned in...

...here's a link from the Mansfield News Journal with some photos...the picture of 3rd St near Sycamore was literally where Russell and I lived (we're not in the picture)...our place was literally feet to the left of the picture...

Thank you @Roguer for getting us started this weekend, hope you still have power!
Going to join @jonphisher in drinking a Kolsch from Chuckanut sent to me by @snaotheus , who, I believe, is trying to keep the local post office in business.

Our kitchen and dining room are out of commission (Heck, the kitchen is just gone) so it's pre-made meals that can be reheated. Fortunately my wife is an excellent cook.
The stew tasted like a German Sauerbraten which just pleased my taste buds no end, then this beer comes along and whoa! This is good!
Poured crystal clear amber with a huge and slowly dissipating head (I drank through it, smelled to good to wait) The aroma was biscuits and herbs, or maybe lemongrass, is that an herb? No idea. But it was appealing.
The taste even more so- lemongrass tang and biscuit malts frolic and play for every sip. The balance and levels are amazing.
Too quaffable; says so on the can. And they are not wrong. My sole complaint is that there is only 12 oz of this to be had. Thank you Ryan, you saved me from thinking this style wasn't something I could enjoy!
Cheers all, stay warm, stay safe.

I could imagine that being a pretty good time, on the beer, weed and tuneage front.

On the snow front that is insane, makes one wonder if that happened again now would it cause the same amount of chaos?

oh an just because, the band and it fits the theme of the conversation

...I have a fond memory of my roommate Russell and I lurching along Park Ave. West (not around the blizzard time but heading home from some sort of party), drunk on Thunderbird (and probably stoned) singing 'Up On Cripple Creek' with boisterous abandonment...it's a wonder MPD didn't bust our asses, but we had many amazing times back then...

It is so funny cause that song was about the same to me and several of my college friends and brother. It was song out drunk and stoned many a times. It appears history does repeat itself cause that was in 2007

The Last Waltz DVD was on replay many times as well, “van the man!”

...Van Morrison appreciation really took hold of me in West Germany in the late 80s...always like him, but that period of time his songs (particularly 'And It Stoned Me') had particular relevance...

    Third Coast Ale by Bell's

Being a relative newcomer to barley wines despite drinking and brewing beer for a long time, I always put off trying this beer. I love so many Bell's beers that I thought it wasn’t worth a shot. I was wrong.

The beer pours a murky brown with a good head, though the head diminished quickly and I saw no lacing throughout the tasting.

The nose of brown sugar and caramel proves to be the sheep's clothing for this 10.2% wolf. There is also a hop presence in aroma which became more pronounced as the beer warmed.

The taste is a nice combination of sweet and bitter. The maltiness approaches the path of cloying, but never gets there. The mid-swallow hop bite is significant but short-lived. Caramel returns to smooth out the finish.

Overall an excellent after dinner beer that pleases in all senses.

Prairie Cleveland Cowboy Imperial Pastry Kettle Sour, 7.9% ABV; 4.22 overall

Pours an effervescent & murky Chablis color with one finger of Pinkish head. No head retention or lacing

S: Vanilla, cinnamon, fresh baked cookies

T: Follows the nose, a little blueberry muffin & dryness up front. Flavor skews more to a sweet cherry as this warms, with more cinnamon & vanilla mixed in, very much tasting like a muffin. Finishes sweet with vanilla, cinnamon & cherry muffin dryness

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, a little sticky

Bloody expensive, glad I got to try this though, as Pastry Sours go, this is damn good

Yeah, I forgot in my posting to note that it did not seem that high in ABV, either in taste or in effect. So, IDK... the ABV I listed is merely hearsay.
