A local radio personality started making fun of all this weather folderol a couple of years ago by using the term "Snowmageddon" ... at least I hope he was making fun of it.

Stone Hazy IPA - bottled on 12/15/21. Pours a lighter orange/darker yellow with a generous head but it's not really that hazy and you can see through it a bit. Smell is odd, almost a hint of a minty rubbery thing going on amongst a bit of tropical fruit. Taste is equally as odd and the El Dorado, Azacca, Sabro are coming through but a strange mix for my palate. It's light and smooth but overall kind of flavorless and dull, does get slightly better as it warms. Drinkable, but there's many more hazies I would have over this one. Prost!

I'm one of those folks that did not like it. Way too sweet but i knew it was a polarizing type of sweetness before i drank it. It was unbearably sweet to me . Glad i tried it. Never again. Same with Fremont B5K

Have a good NBS. Have been playing video games all weekend for my college roommate's birthday over discord. Rest of the week was work for a Thursday deadline presentation, then the rest of the week was smooth sailing. Have to run a packaging meeting next week. Finally made it to the gym 3 days last week for the first time since Sept 2014 and the bike crash. But anyways, I am looking to get back into deadlifting 315 again someday soon. Also planning on putting more motivation into mountain biking too. Me and Julia have been watching movies and documentaries; as well as doing home cooking during the week as well. Still plenty of stuff we want to make

Now to review a sour IPA. Jolly Pumpkin I Thought I Was Special, a Tired Hands Collab. 11/1/2018 bottling, but released in Sept 2019. Wow this was amazing. Lasting rocky head retention and thick foamy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big tart/sour lemon, lime, green apple, white grape, grapefruit, orange, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, oak, peppercorn, pine, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, leather, musty Brett/lacto funk, and earthiness from yeast. Moderate lactic tart/sourness, oak tang/tannins; pine, woody, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness; and yeast spiciness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, medium body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced bready/grainy malts, lactic acid, sticky/resinous hops, and barrel tang/tannins in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing sour/bitter dryness, with minimal puckering/astringent flavors. Mild warmth of 9%. Amazing complexity of Centennial, Citra, Cascade, and Falconers Flight hops in perfect balance with classic JP funk and oak character; with a lighter bodied wheat/oat backbone than expected considering the ABV. Tons of vibrant fruitiness and nice hop dankness considering the age of the bottle. The Brett character developed wonderfully, I can see why they cellar these bottles for around a year before release. I will now miss having access to these odd one off JP collaboration releases. No one has reviewed it. One of the best sour IPAs I've had, and definitely the best new one I've had from them in a long time. 4.45

"Bombogenesis" still sounds like something trending on Tik Tok.

As for the beer, since my post yesterday, another review has been added (who knows what Snickerdoodles are, thankfully) ... and my rDev has elevated to +12.7%. Apparently, I'm on an island with this one, as no one else seems to think it's nearly as good as I do. Perhaps a difference between draught and bottle? Drinking temperature? I don't know, but both my wife and I loved it (on fresh palates, too). I'd still recommend it. :grinning:

[IMG] Pours a very attractive yellow orange with a 2 finger sticky white head that leaves thick streaks of lace with excellent retention. 4.5

Aroma mandarin, papaya, ripe cantaloupe, passionfruit, apricot, and a little white grapefruit rind. 4.5

Taste follows mandarin, papaya, cantaloupe, passionfruit, apricot, and just a tickle of grapefruit in the balanced and bold finish. 4.5

Mouthfeel is big, soft gentle almost creamy carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 8% is goes very easy, but still drinks bigger. 4.75

Overall I am really digging this one and I feel another week or 10 days and it will be even better. 4.5 Cheers all.

Appearance: Yellow murk bomb, good head.

Smell: Strong dank aroma to start, then mild sweetness, tropical fruit and orange.

Taste: Big orange and citrus, nice balance in that it's not too sweet or too acidic. Mild citrus bitterness in the finish.

Overall: Found some DDH King Sue in the little mom & pop store close by. Very good beer, often times these murky ones go overboard on the acidity, but this was done well. Glad I tried it but probably won't go in for another $20 4 pack.

Speaking of snickerdoodles definitely try Firestone cinnamon dulce if you find it. 6% nitro milk stout with cinnamon and vanillas. It tastes like a snickerdoodle dipped in coffee, not overly sweet. It was really really good, I thought.

It is also possible I was just more sensitive to the vegetal hop notes than you guys. Sometimes something in a beer stands out to me and I have trouble moving past it. So perhaps I noted the same thing as @Roguer but it stuck out more for me ... who knows? For the record I like Bissell Bros a lot, that one just didn't do it for me.

I have loved that beer for years! It is a great beer.

Whose dumb games, the experts that spend their lives researching this stuff? Breaking down storms into further categories due to behaviors and their makeup is no different that anything else, it's a natural progression as we learn more about how they function.

And just look at our own hobby that we all spend time posting about and how beer and its categories have progressed over time. But I guess you would rather see just "Lager" and "Ale", to hell with all of the other sub-categories that these damn brewers are talking about to get the people all worked up

I think it's that weather forecasting now presents many concepts and terms made necessary by better understandings we've develped in the last 40-50 years. There also are beer styles and terms now that weren't invented 40 - 50 years ago, and which we never heard back then.

Great, thanks @jonphisher - I needed another beer on my ever expanding wants list. @Roguer was bad enough with the temptation to try a beer with cinnamon in it that was not just drinkable but *good* and you had to chime in to ice it.
Maybe when I can get to visit my mom in Colorado later this year.

Seriously, I really enjoy this thread. So descriptive and I already know if I will like something or not. Cheers!
